Server meshing is going to be huge. I just wonder with a grid if that means they will have a set number always on? And what happens when 90% of the players are using 10% of the zones. Although if I think about AWS all "servers" are virtual and multiple servers can be running on the same hardware in a rack in some warehouse. So under utilization will probably not be an issue. I'm looking forward to seeing how well the grid approach compares to the containerized version of SC. its funny. although I have to look into it more it feels like the grid version is an advanced version of EOS while SC containers seems like an advanced version of Duke Nukem. Funny enough Space Engineers server mods went with a crude version of containers. My understanding of containers is that one container contains the entire stanton system (although they probably have a universe container above that to track which system people are in) when you enter stanton you enter a stanton container then another for Arccorp then another for area 18 and so on all the way down to your hab or ship interior. With the container approach you can move a container to another server to handle the contents if too many people are there. Space engineers modders took that idea and setup one server as the game world as in it is the entire solar system (SE only has the solar system people can play in or swap out planets but in the end it is a single sun and various planets) but if you get too close to a planet you get shifted to another server that runs just that one planet. but when you leave the planet you go back to the server running all of space. unlike SC there is a loading screen to go jump to the next server and once a ship crosses over you lose sight of it until you cross over to the other server. crude but it works and it seems like they took the container idea from SC. you wont find it in the vanilla game but if you play on Alehouse or Draconis servers they use this tech to reach much higher player counts than the base game could technically handle. Oh as for Duke Nukem 3D it used a container type system but it was called sector-based level design. it used the same idea of distinct sectors attached by doors or other boundaries that act as portals and had the same issues with seeing things through a door since the sector was not actually attached to the next sector. When SC mentioned containers it immediately made me think of duke nukem 3d because it had the same growing pains and issues. I was so intrigued by how the engine did it if you couldn't tell. lol. I love this stuff. I was so amazed someone looked at all this work and said wait I can write that into this other space game. Can't wait to see what AoCs grid system inspires.

a bit late on the reply and you probably already know this by now but as far as i understand, the grids will be dynamic even within the bigger grids there will be smaller ones if there a high amount of players within a certain grid it'll then be split seperately based on where the concentration of players are to better balance the load.

So many good announcements as well as so much amazing tech info. And of course O.M.G. I will have the opportunity to buy an A2 much much sooner than I thought?!!!! For the peeps crying about how they paid a lot early, etc - yeah that's the risk of throwing money at something at kickstarter status. This new sale is A2 keys only. No extras. no beta access. No cosmetics. No subs. Just plain A2 keys. It's more testers to push the server as hard as we can, which is exactly what they need, which is exactly how we get the best game possible. If you are mad at that, kick rocks. Nobody cares. As for the date - seriously? They just told us we'd get a date by the end of this month. They are so confident that they can hit Q3 that they are increasing the number of testers by a massive margin. The smart money has always been some time in September. That hasn't change at all. July we get a date, A1 peeps will be in by some time in August at the latest. How soon in September we get full A2 release will be 100% based on the server performance from the A1 testers. It's all 100% legit and on track. Anyone mad at that should just go kick rocks. July stream is date plus Bard? Hell yes please!! August we'll see character creator (unless they can't get it fixed in time) and be a couple of weeks or so away from A2 launch? Hell mfin' yes please!! As an Ashes follower and a nerd, this stream with it's info and announcements is a definite 10/10 to me!!

Nice Rant, all justified. I got A1 package but am looking forward to getting 4 friends some "A2 only" keys as a surprise. LOL
