1983 I cut my first lawn professionally. Be nice...I love the evolution of the machine. A lawn ornament of mine is a 1920's rusted out reel mower. On a marble stone base surrounded by flowers...it's really pretty. Gas mowers may be ornaments too one day.

I hear so many people say. "My wheels spin when it's wet". " The mower does not pick up wet grass". You are not supposed to cut when the grass is wet. Moisture increases the chance of fungus,mould and disease.

This looks like the best buy for a small riding mower. The gas ones are so chincy and every one has problems from starting to service work. I have 7 Ryobi 40 volt packs of various ahr. and so far (3 yrs for the oldest), no issues with any of them. I use them in rotation so they get evenly used. I have had one 18 volt Ryobi pack fail after 13 years and 2 more are 14 years old , but showing degradation when used under heavy load (circular saw). Again, all six are used in rotation. The life span of any of the 80 volt lithium packs in the riders is up in the air until they start failing.

I'm on my 11th year of my Ego mower and other tools. Original blade and battery, and it all runs and works like day one. I take proper care of my things and keep my batteries inside the house. @@reality1958 Direct Tools Outlet has big sales occasionally and I've seen the Ryobi 80v batteries for $500. A lot of people that are pro-gas mowers typically don't bother looking into battery options because of their bias towards gas. A battery mower can last just as long or longer than some gas ones. Gas mowers can still be made from cheap plastics and have the added cost and potential for needing repairs more often just by the nature of gas motors (oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, etc).

@jfrye2475
@jfrye2475 Жыл бұрын
@@mushroom89 Again, the cost of operation with electric riders is dependent on the lifespan and replacement cost of the batteries. The 75 ahr., 12 voltSLA/AGM batteries in my RM480e ran for 58 months, 160 hours of use, and 2,082 charges. It cost me $660 to replace them with 100 ahr. batteries which the savings over an ICE mower hit after 54 months. Few of these lithium powered mower makers will state the life span of their battery packs. Ego does state a limit of 1,000 charge cycles for their 56 volt packs. CubCadet doesn't state a limit, but the lithium pack in their electric riders costs $4,000 and requires a CC technician to service the replacement. FWIW, Tesla stated the first generation battery packs in their cars were good for 1,600 charge cycles (300K-500K miles) and cost $19,000 to replace. My point is that the lithium riding mowers haven't been around long enough to establish any sort of cost effectiveness regarding the batteries.
@mushroom89

@jfrye2475
@jfrye2475 Жыл бұрын
@@mushroom89 Yes, I did view the video and the batteries do look like the Ryobi 80 volt, 10 ahr. packs. The Ryobi packs list for $899 each. Didn't see any comparable Hart batteries listed anywhere. Again, no one is saying how many charge cycles these will do, and they haven't been in use long enough to see. When I bought my RM480e, Ryobi was saying about five years of life span for the Leoch batteries. The Ryobi system limits the Depth Of Discharge (DOD) to 30% (70% remaining) and Leoch stated the batteries should do 1,500-1,700 cycles at that DOD. Battery sites state the SLA/AGM batteries will do five times the 50% DOD rating at 10% DOD. The 50% DOD rating was 500-600 cycles, so at 10% DOD, they should do close to 2,500 cycles. My mower has a DOD of just over 10% and saved $685 in gas and maintenance over 54 months and the four replacement batteries cost $660 total. My question is: Will the lithium batteries last long enough to pass the breakeven point? The batteries in this Hart mower will cost $1,800 to replace. Will they last long enough to make it a cost effective solution?
@mushroom89
@mushroom89 Жыл бұрын
@@jfrye2475 I don't have the time or interest to look into the specific rated number of cycles for the batteries or if Hart even has that documented anywhere, but typically Lithium batteries have a longer lifespan than lead acid, have higher capacity, and their easy to remove. Their capacity should be more since lead acid can't discharge past 50% without permanent damage. The cost difference between Ryobi's lead acid mower and Hart's lithium mower is not much. I would go with lithium.

If you leave the battery on the charger all the time you will kill it. After you finish mowing go take a shower and when you are finished, but the battery on charge and as soon as it is fully charged remove it from the charger. Take it in the house do not leave it in an unheated shed or garage over the winter. Take it in the house during the summer months as well. These batteries do not tolerate temp. extremes. Not to hot and not to cold. Mine is three years old now and I can mow both mine and my neighbors yard on a charge. Little more than an hour run time. I love mine. 40volt 20inch walk behind.
