Revolutions and problems of the Line city

In the north of Saudi Arabia, construction has begun on a whole new region with several cities, industrial zones and tourist resorts. Among all these objects, The Line project stands out the most, which is a city of 9 million, united into a single urban complex-building, stretched in a straight line 170 km long from the seashore through mountains and deserts.
Today we will try to understand what kind of complex it is, why is it being built and what are its prospects. Welcome to the vertical streets of The Line.

How about instead of a line, you have a square....that way any two points in the city are MUCH closer together. You could travel between any two points INSIDE the square on a grid-shaped transportation network. And...as long as we have that inside, we could also build things there. By doing so, we could reduce the size of the main "line" building. In fact....it would probably make sense to make the central buildings the tallest ones, and have them decrease in size the further one goes from the center. Then, so as to not be totally cut off from the outside world, we could have breaks in the main line wall to facilitate transport in and out of the city. And.....boom: we have a city.

The Saudis just released a video about another ambitious project called the 'Mukaab' a 400 meter tall/wide cube in the city of Riyadh. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I have no hopes of seeing both the Line and the Cube being completed.

I have 0 experience in building and architecture and even I can tell you that the 200Bn price and it being finished in 7 years is a crazy ass dream. Try maybe 2Tn in cost by 2050 !!

THE most preposterous project to have ever been pitched. I mean... they think it's gon' cost 200B $ to build this thing. The Freedom Tower in NYC alone cost 4B $. They talk about not affecting the surrounding environment when there's literally NO environment there. Just a barren desert. These people are completely mental. They might build a few kilometers, and then use it as a prison.

The city of Kryvyi rih in ukraine is a soviet attempt at a line city. And as far as I'm aware it is a transportation nightmare.

This will revolutionize making any two points in a city as far apart as possible! What a stupid idea. I mean...for the same length they could've made it a rectangle or a circle and made everything a fraction of the distance apart, but even that would be a stupid, pointless idea. Let people spend their own money to make nice little places along the coast rather than in the middle of the barren desert. Also...making the train go end-to-end is also a dumb idea, because it forces everyone to travel to one of the ends before boarding the train.

At that hight that won't be a problem however the reflection from the line will turn some of the ground to glass now who ever lives near the line has to content with glass storms. (there are examples of skyscrapers reflecting off each other to melt cars in a certain parking spot.)

Build it half of the proposed height. I think they would have a better chance of completing the entire length of 170 km. I hope it gets built even if it takes 20 years.

The environment is being protected, and all wildlife is being relocated to Wildlife sanctuaries. And i don't think that you will find a lot of animals in the desert? I will continue preferring Dubai for now!

The most important question should be if \slamic Sharia Law will be enforced within The Line as it is through out Saudi Arabia. If that's the case, the entire project is a completely futile excercise.
