Niji and Cover are competitors, so it makes sense for them to try and overshadow each other. I think Cover allows themselves to have a very aggressive stance because of the reputation of Niji. People rightfully feel like Niji deserves to be destroyed at every turn even with the dirtiest and pettiest moves. I doubt Cover would pull the same moves on Vshojo or other agencies even if those where in the same league as them.

@@dead-claudia That tomato is my oshi, and I think the world of her and i'm so happy she's doing so well (did you see that figure she just posted on twitter? wow) and while she is an amazing entertainer, she will unfortunately never be like Gura. Doki's growth has slowed down to less than 1,000 new subs per day and has been for some time. At this rate, she won't even hit 1 million by the end of the year, though i'm hopeful it will happen not long after. But Gura... She was a phenomenon. She had more than a million subs on her personal account before she even joined the company. She exploded in popularity. Fastest growing and most subbed vtuber in history, blowing all competition out of the water. Even now she's still double what everybody else is. I will support my tomato oshi to the end, but she will never be Gura.

In my headcanon Hololive was in talks about baseball collab for a while, but perhaps information about this got leaked and then Nijisanji looked for the next best thing to collab with and that's how they ended teaming up with NBA. And they might have simply got to announce theirs first, to be first to market. Considering that baseball is still a lot more popular than basketball or football (soccer in imperial units) in Japan it all makes sense to me. And Gura is also very popular in Japan too, so no surprise they put her along with 2 JP members. I bet whole Hololive thing was targeted solely at the japanese viewers from the very beginning.

Afaik NIJI X NBA Collab is just more on merch where anycolor is paying royalties to have NBA themed merch while hololive X Dodgers seems to feature the girls during the pre-match while also doing some merch. I could be wrong tho about niji, I can't find any other info about the NBA Collab aside from merch. Edit: Niji isn't directly collaborating with NBA. They are releasing NBA themed merch through a third party who acquired licence for this merch.

Okay, NijisanjiBA makes sense like that. It made zero sense as an NBA promotion, but licencing for a Kuroko no Basket style costume set is fine, if a bit of a nothing burger. If the HoloxDodger Collab is two-way, it's neat, I guess, and does more to grow the market for both sides as a promo. So they aren't really competing, it's just weird coincidence.

It is on the MLB and Dodgers web sites, there's a special code to use when buying game tickets, this thing is a full two-way deal. There will be announcements and content before and during the game, shork singing at the bottom of the 7th, and a drone light show with music at the end of the game. I wouldn't say this is some Disney-level production yet, but it's HUGE for a brand that started on KZbin a handful of years ago.

Didn't Hololive do a baseball collab before? I seem to remember something about that. I don't really follow sports, so I only would have heard about it from the Hololive side. As for the Nijisanji collab, I don't know. I don't care who the NBA collabs with. I'm sure they have their reasons. Maybe the NBA is trying to break into the Japanese market, who knows. The only issue I had with their collab was when it was revealed that the person in Nijisanji who enjoys basketball and the NBA the most was entirely excluded. Whether they did so through malice, or negligence, it amounts to the same thing to me. They are thoughtless in their work. I don't want to see Nijisanji fail. I don't care. I don't want to see any company fail. But companies fail, and they sometimes do so because of correctable internal issues. That is what I see this as. I want to see them correct themselves. But if they don't, I'm not going to be sad to see them fail. Because that's what happens when you don't correct yourself. Or, as the great scribe Ice Cube once said., "You better check yourself, before you wreck yourself."

I think the biggest difference between the two is that the NijixNBA one is just a merchandise thing with a local Japanese rebroadcaster, NBA fans will not see any mention of Nijisanji anywhere. The HololivexDodgers is going to be an actual event at a game, baseball has a ton of these so its nothing extremely special, but could be a fun reason to go to the game for Hololive fans. It is also Shohei's birthday on July 5th to add to the Japanese connection.

It's a big slot for an event night, coming off of the 4th of July and on the same week as Anime Expo. With a game that'll get tons of press coverage in Japan because it's Ohtani's birthday. I have no idea how much it costs to set up something like this, but the event has got a lot of things adding up to boost their chances of success. BUuut I am picturing some really confused Brewers fans in the stadium who have no idea what they walked into.
