1 Years Worth of Ink in the Box!? Brother All-in-One Printer MFC-J5855DW | Review

I have the 6955. It's a nice machine. I doubt that there's one year of ink in the box based on my use so far (and I don't use it for printing photos, as I will explain). Also, the KZbinr didn't show how long it takes to print a photo, and he printed on plain paper. It takes a few minutes to print a single 4x6 photo on glossy photo paper. It's super slow for photos. Very fast for documents. So I bought an Epson for printing photos. It came with 3 large bottles of black ink, and one for each color. And the capacity of those bottles is printed on them: Black: 127mL ; Colors (all three): 70 mL each. However, Brother says that the capacity of their cartridges is proprietary. The scanner is par-excellence.

question, looking at the manual, the 6955 has brother ... 4 software for scanning from pc - is it also on this model? manual doesnt talk about any desktop software.

Are the cartridges refillable using bottles of ink or do you have to replace them? This is an inkvestment tank model which I thought means it has refillable ink tanks.

Did you discover the true cost per page. Lucky enough I used this giant ink tank technology for 450 pages before my 30 day return window passed. That calculated to 60 CENTS PER PAGE

Pretty decent. Maybe in the future if I ever have a need for it I'll consider it but for now my laser printer does a great job.

looks incredible, even on plain paper. As a serious photographer i cant wait to print out some HQ pics. just ordered the printer directly from brother with a 15% email signup promo. I was going to go with the 6955, but almost double the price (staples only here so no promo), they seem to be identical as far as speed print head ink, just the bigger one does duplex everything up to 11x17, but i would probably never need that. my old workforce 3540 has served me pretty well, it does 2 sided scan, copy print, etc so maybe ill keep it for the scanning. the print head is useless for anything high quality after 10 years. Was going to get epson st-c4100 with 2 years of ink, but doesnt have 11x17 and the refurb was still 140 more than this.

note - who needs fax anymore, i say to brother, get rid of it at least in some countries cheaper to build without the keypad and phone modem, maybe some smb still use it?.

I would have liked to have seen whether it's easy to scan from a book. Does the cover detach or move at all?

It should be easy. The cover is hinged, but can extend an inch or two above the scanner bed (at least on my 6955).

Yes, the Brother MFC-J5855DW All-in-One Printer can print on 8.5 x 14 inches (Legal size) paper. To utilize this feature, follow these steps: Loading Legal-Size Paper: Adjust the Paper Tray: Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine. Press the blue paper-guide release lever and slide the paper guides to fit Legal-size paper. Press the release button at the bottom of the paper tray and extend the back of the tray to accommodate the longer paper length. Load the Paper: Fan the stack of Legal-size paper to prevent jams. Place the paper in the tray with the print side face down, ensuring it's flat and below the maximum paper mark. Reinsert the paper tray firmly into the machine. Setting the Paper Size on the Printer: Press the [Settings] button on the printer's control panel. Navigate to [All Settings] > [General Setup] > [Tray Setting]. Select the tray you're using (e.g., Tray #1). Choose [Paper Size], then select Legal from the list. Press OK to confirm. Configuring Print Settings on Your Computer: Windows: Open the document you wish to print. Go to File > Print. Select the Brother MFC-J5855DW printer. Click on Printer Properties or Preferences. In the Paper Size dropdown, select Legal. Adjust other settings as needed and click OK. Click Print to start printing. macOS: Open your document and select File > Print. Hi thanks for the review, I got one this one post seeing your video but I have doubt, I am seeing on test paper at one place alignment issue is it the printer problem ? also does this printer good with Photo Papers "haven't tested one" Some images i am seeing nice print output while some horizontal line not so perfect like vertical lines on A4 paper

I'd recommend using a heavier weight of paper and setting the printer to a higher quality mode, which slows down the print speed and gives the ink a little extra time to dry. And for Photos I'd recommended BP71G glossy photo paper - our results = solidly drugstore quality.

​@@Revu2u Thanks a lot for quick reply, could please let me know if you've info like does ESPON EcoTank printers like ET 3850 segment better color reproduction than this printer ? I use to own Brother MFC-T910DW though not a good photo printer ok kind of during 2019, it use to print photo on glossy paper but it use to left roller marks on the photo if we tilt it use to appear on it.. but after seeing this MFC-J5855DW felt superb upgrade color reproduction is too good. Not sure how EPSON or Canon performs in this price range segment. I can see in Canada $300 to $500 #inkvestment or eco tank or megatank printers are available but not sure which one is good in color reproduction when we compare in real-time. I'm glad you have covered some of the aspects with @brother printers and really helped me to take a decision on buying this.
