Just heard another reviewer saying how incredibly uncomfortable Sportster is, strange close peg position, and the handle bars forcing you to lean forward ( like sitting on a rowing machine). the front brake isn't adequate to stop such a heavy bike, it looks odd with balloon tyres, which make it difficult to corner, and wide high exhausts.

Here’s where I’m at with this particular cycle. I’m seeing people who’ve probably whined for the last several years about Harley not making the effort to change up their design of engines, brakes and electronics. Now they’ve done it, and have a pretty fast cycle. Yet, people still aren’t satisfied. It’s not a dedicated sport bike. It’ll never be the same as one. Me, I still love the regular Harley cycles. I own a 2006 Springer. However, this cycle did catch my eye. It’s able to do wheelies with ease and it’s a great running cycle. I don’t see anything wrong with it. The styling isn’t my particular flavor, but it looks good. I get that the starter won’t engage when the engine is in a certain position. Hell, there are many other brands that struggle with starting as well. I’m on several Facebook pages where plenty of Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha guys are posting about bikes that won’t turn over. Fuses blowing. Constantly replacing fork seals. Oil leaks from the case. Cracked cases. All sorts of weird stuff that I’ve never had with any of my Harleys. On the dyno, my 2006 is putting 110hp to the tire and 99ftlbs of torque and it feels and runs noticeably aggressively. This Sportster would clearly feel even more aggressive. I’m not sure where the negativity is coming from. If you want a cruiser, buy a cruiser. Want a sport bike, buy a sport bike. Most people that have sport bikes are scared to put them on the track. Go to track days and see. You’ll see more of them riding through the city, than actually applying the performance. That tells me, this particular cycle is more than enough for the average rider. Even though the style isn’t what I like, it’s a pretty cool ride. The price is on par with anything else out there that’s new.

All the bullshit you posted about Japanese bikes are NOT common issues. However, HD keeps putting out trash. I challenge anyone who reads this statement to Google owner reviews of the sportster s. You'll then see the truth, the bitter truth. This bike is like sitting in a clamshell, unless you're a midget, and you'll find posts of blown engines from 400 miles to 4k miles, due to a cam chain tensioner problem THAT HAS COME UP BEFORE WITH OTHER MODELS. I grew up on Japanese bikes, atvs, etc. I just bought a 2011 Honda Fury from a guy that let it sit in his garage. For WHATEVER reason. It has 7k miles on it, in pristine condition. Beautiful bike. I paid 5k for basically a barely broken in piece of art. I continue to hold up hope that I can hold an American brand in such high esteem. And HD continues to disappoint. The flickering dash is due to a phenomenon called Nyquist sampling. The camera is capturing images at a rate of 30-60 Hz. The display is probably updating at 30-60 Hz. For the camera to capture a clear image would require sampling at least double the display frequency which then puts it at 120 Hz.

The gas mileage is horrible, I wouldn’t be comfortable taking it on long trips unless I was able to store a small container of fuel in a friend’s saddlebag or something. Or the very least mapped out all the gas stations between the starting point to final destination. 25 miles one way to work, with lite traffic can eat up a quarter of a tank. And even with no traffic, it drinks fuel like water but slightly less. I love the bike though. If Harley doesn’t make another, I think it’d be sought after like the Vrod.

@DroneStrike17762 жыл бұрын
This is why Harleys have a hard time selling. People still want the potato sound but that's no longer modern and as efficient. They built a brand that they can't shake and evolve. I love that Street and Street Rod 750 engine, would of made for a great bike in a Sportster style bike. Shame Harley made it too different.
@karlhockenberry91302 жыл бұрын
The soft tail didn't have potatoes . It's fuel injected. Lol.
@SirOsisofLiver2 жыл бұрын
@@karlhockenberry9130 Tradition Harley engines have a 45 degree cylinder angle with a single crank pin, for a 315 firing interval. That’s the cause of the potatoes. Fuel injection doesn’t enter into it.
@Gnerko1232 жыл бұрын
@@SirOsisofLiver the potato comes from the old ignition systems sparking both cylinders every time one of the pistons is at tdc in combinatoin with carbs. The wasted spark then ignites unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Look up ‘harley wasted spark’. New harleys haven’t potatoed for some time now.
@SirOsisofLiver2 жыл бұрын
@@Gnerko123 They did have that ignition system, but that did not cause the potato, which is still present in the air cooled engines due to the uneven firing order. There would never be enough ‘unburned fuel’ to misfire like that anyway. The VRSC engine in the VROD had a 60 degree V angle and even firing order, so had no potatoes. The same as the 60 degree Revolution VMax in the new Sportster and Pan American. No potatoes because of the even firing order. Milwaukee 8 engines still have the potatoes because of the 45 degree V and offset crank pins.

I used to have a sportster (01 hugger 883) and it had mid controls. I had installed highway pegs where the forward controls would have been and I had planned on getting them, but when I got the highway pegs, I found that I hated them; they were by far too far forward and it wasn't what I would call relaxing, which is what I always thought was the point of forward controls, otherwise, they make no sense at all to me. It's a drag that the mid controls cost extra, but I would opt for the mid controls for sure.
