I've been riding with the tethered version for about a year now after a sales rep detonated it on me in the store. I was immediately sold. I commute to college and work almost everyday. I mainly ride without the backpack zipped on (in vest mode), but it's handy in a pinch. I treat the airbag like a helmet: never get on the bike without it.

I like the fact you can detach the bag so its just like the basic over the vest airbag. I dislike the lack of coverage vs other vests. Love the ease of use and restocking the canister. As stated in other comments, EU gets a fork sensor for standstill deployment. Its an airbag to consider. Im using a RST vest that has an air bag included right now. If i every decide to change it, I'm between this and an Alpinestar under the vest system. Thanks for the review!

This is a really good product with only a minor miss or two. It would be nice if it had some hip/side ribcage protection. I understand the size adjustments are there but that could be addressed. I have a tethered Hit-Air MLV2-RC ("harness" design) that could easily accommodate a zip-off/on backpack (but doesn't) and has hip/side protection. And it would be nice if the US-spec fork sensor is available soon, which would eliminate the dead-stop/no-deployment issue.
@Daza19673 ай бұрын
They have just launched something called a ‘fork sensor’ which attaches to your bike and connects to either their electronic vests or electronic backpacks via Bluetooth. The fork sensor calculates low speed or no speed impacts (ie. stopped) and deploys the bag. So the issue of not working less than 15 mph or stopped is fixed.

Aside from the hideous styling (unless you are a fan of early 00s corporate merch?), it's a fantastic product!
@John_Ridley7 ай бұрын
I bought the electronic version. In the EU they have a sensor you can put on the bike fork and it will cover the case of being hit while stopped and WILL deploy in that situation but that sensor isn't available in the US yet. I assume it's awaiting FCC certification. They did also say that the frequencies are different between EU and US, otherwise I'd just buy the sensor sometime when I was in the EU. At this point I kinda wish I'd gotten the tethered version, but since I've already used it, I'm stuck with what I have. I may never know if it's a good choice if I never wreck at speed with it on.

You are correct on all points according to what I have read, too. Hopefully that US-spec fork sensor will be available fairly soon. I think you'll feel better about it then. This is a very good product if you need a backpack, if a little too pricey, IMO.
@tangosucka20007 ай бұрын
The fork sensor isn't available in Australia either. I contacted Helite and they said due to some roads being quiet rough/pot holes etc, the fork sensor can set the bag off if you hit one, then causing you to have a accident due to the startle. So they aren't allowed here under Australian law. I'm sure other countries have way more pot holes than here in Australia (which that aren't that many...) and they have the fork sensors available. Anyway, mechanical is the way to go.

Its 18kph 11mph for it deploy. I owned mine for 6 months and use it every ride. If just a cruise i remove the backpack and just use it as a vest. The backpack holds loads. I ride a sport bike with no storage. No other airbag system allows you to wear a backback. So this was my option. Went electronic for ease. So far not needed it! Wish they were cheaper to save more people.

I really like the concept of this but i really wish it had more neck stabilization like some other vests. I wish it was at least cheaper than some of its more robust competitors. I guess if you really hate wearing jackets its a good alternative.
@ThaOneBigAndSmallOneАй бұрын
You should still wear a jacket for arm protection and to not turn into a meat crayon.

I just love this Backpack! Was always a Fan of Airbags but couldn't really find the right Thing and then this comes around! To be honest, I'll even wear this when using my E-Bike, because I need a Backpack anyways and other than a OK Bicycle Helmet I have no other Armor to Protect me from a Crash.

Thanks so much for the review. I was thinking about buying one but information about the backpack is pretty lackluster.

I love the idea of this. It would simplify my kit, especially when carrying a water bladder. But, the coverage seems lacking compared to other airbag options. Sans backpack of course. It would have been great if you'd have given some more detail about that.

Hello. thanks for the review. Is it possible to use the airbag system (without the bag) under a jacket?
@RevZilla3 ай бұрын
The Helite systems are designed to be worn overtop of jackets only. Since they were designed that way and are safety certified devices, we wouldn't recommend wearing them inside.

@RevZilla 06:36 surprised Helite didn't mention their optional fork sensor which allows the electronic airbag to detect impacts from 0 km/h. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpjSXomCfa6coJYsi=QMO0uOyrkeoUVcga

Helite doesn't make the fork sensor available to the US retailers / market, unfortunately. But it is available for those outside the US for the under 15mph protection.

@thebrowns53377 ай бұрын
Tethered system, you said it... "when you come off the bike". It's human nature to hold on when falling, so in some scenarios you hit the ground and slide then the tether is pulled. AI means you start dropping and it's deployed before you hit the floor. The alogorythm can be continuously updated too.
@RevZilla7 ай бұрын
Yeah, that is one of the key benefits Algorithm has over Tethered. Although, Tethered has their own unique benefits as well (no battery, no relying on electronics etc). Different options for different customers though, which is always a good thing for us riders.
@MalfosRanger7 ай бұрын
Nothing is perfect for every scenario. Tethered airbags are definitely more effective in high sides than low. But that’s generally where you’re gonna get the hardest impact being thrown off. I for one prefer the confidence that whether I’ve been riding for the better part of the month or the vest has been hanging in the closet, that airbag will deploy if I go flying. Keep it simple.
@nelsonnguyen48117 ай бұрын
@@MalfosRangerboth types of airbags work better with a high side. Algorithm based systems often don’t trigger on a low side. You can see that in MotoGP. Tether will actually still trigger if the big just pulls away from you even in a low side. (Unlike tracks, there are still dangers after you hit the ground in a low side.)
