People don’t give Gundam Wing enough credit. All I hear is is it’s a starter Anime and it’s the least involving of all the Gundam Series. But all too often it’s from people who don’t give the series a second though. They take it for face value and simply write off the storyline. And the I’ll admit to some noobs the story can get a bit convoluted it’s an awesome show. Really a credit to the Gundam name. And at the end of the series with Endless Waltz included leaves you wanting more and also kinda sad in a way that it’s over. And no I don’t count frozen teardrop

One thing I disagree with in the video is Zechs attitude toward Noin. If anything, she is the character he shows the most care for, entrusting the life of his sister to her, and refusing to harm her in episode 47, which allows Peacemillion to destroy Libras main weapon. That, and they run off together in EW.

This show really challenged my Twelve Year Old Mind. Up until this we saw Thundercats, Voltron, Cartoon Roulette, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, Robotech, Sailor Moon, Dragon ball Z, ReBoot and Ronin Warriors. All of these had clear cut Heroes and Villains. This was a Game Changer. Essentially The Game of Thrones of our Childhood.

I always thought of Wu Fei as chivalrous, which while coming off as sexist at times, was just another aspect of his obsession with traditionalist honor. Wanting to die to Treize Khushrenada in combat instead of living a spared life (and the conflict therein when he wins their rematch) is the most prominent manifestation of this.

I love this series. I just wish there was more time developing the five Gundam pilots. Quatre had the most development. I liked the complexity of the storylines and seeing different perspectives. The ever shifting politics, factions and a rebellion within a rebellion were interesting to rewatch.

I loved Gundam Wing growing up. When I was younger I watched it for all the mecha action (which I enjoyed despite even then recognizing a lot of reused shots and animations), but as I got older I actually started watching it for the narratives: peace, honor, beauty of war etc. Dorothy Catalonia (and by extension Treize) became the characters I grew most invested in because they both preach how beautiful war is when secretly they really abhor it, or at least Dorothy does. I originally dismissed Dorothy as a condescending rich girl but I gradually started to see the sad child she was underneath. She wants peace, but Dorothy actually understood that you can't just take away weapons and national borders and expect people to live peacefully, you have to actually show them the cruel reality of war and conflict to change their hearts, and I think that's really what she and Trieze really admire about war. Actually, I think that applies to a lot of people in real-life who kinda like war (or love watching Gundam and it's anti-war morals); it's not the killing and weapons that we really love to watch, it's the struggle and hardships of conflict that really test what it means to be human and how strong people can grow by overcoming such tremendous trials.

Treize admires Relena's passion as much as Heero's when he first sees her after her interrupted speech. The idea that is made clear by the end of Endless Waltz is that the only way to achieve peace is for people to bravely assert their will.

It's funny that despite the 5 young gundam pilots having very little background or depth to them, it didn't stop edgy 13 year old me, from revelling in their every single word and action. It's like they each represented different finalised aspects of my own personality that I aspired to mature into. But ultimately it probably came down to "omg, they're the same age as me, I could be a pilot too", "Heero is so cool, I'm just like Quatre, they're talking about serious grown up stuff! The music is so cool, ME LIKE!"

Compared to other mobile suits, the Virgos are (statistically speaking) Overpowered to any other "grunt" Mobile Suit barring those from Post-Diseaster era (due to thier reliance of beam weapons) because of thier defensor shield blocks all kinds of range weapons but does not work against Melee weapon attacks and Defensor units cannot take a full power energy weapon such as Twin Buster Rifle or any other similar grade high output weapon.

I'm curious whether the narrator of this video only watched the sub, as he pronounces Quatre's name as "Kwa-truh" when the in the dub they pronounce it "Ka-trah". Also they pronounce Zechs "Marquis" as "Mar-keez" not "Mar-kee". It's like the narrator is acknowledging the French derivations, but in the wrong names lol. No shade intended, it's a good video. I just found the name thing funny. Perhaps OP only watched the sub. I will say that the dub isn't great but it's pretty decent. And the bits that are cringy are often at least hilarious (I'm lookin at you Relena).

Personally I found the dub really good. I'm not sure what this guy meant by mediocre. The guys who played Trieze, Zechs, Heero, Duo, Noin Quatra just to name a few did a really good job. It's not like this dub was Street Fighter the animated series or Mortal Kombat. The only voice I found weird was the guy who was thrown off the plane and then shot in the head. Even Releena wasn't that bad. In any case, Gundam Wing is one of the better dubs I've seen as most of the voices are very memorable. I can't even remember any of the other voices from the other Gundam series outside of the original Gundam and G Gundam.

after rewatching and ending this yesterday up to endless waltz, never expected that the best character will be Trowa, the Bruce Wayne will be Quatre, your bestfriend will always be Duo, Heero is just a story weaver, Zech's is no Char and he is just a confusing character, Treize could have been a Char, the Char of the Series can be formed by the 5 gundam pilots and Wu Fei is just a meh character. oh btw Relena is a Nauseating character, i hoped Heero shot her and I want a separate series with Lady Une as main character because she is Bad Ass Incarnate

Remember, nothing material defeats any of the characters. The winner of the metaphysics wins the material battle. In this light, the idea that the pilots just cut through swaths of mobile suits doesn't really bother me as much as when I thought more materialisticly as a kid. The cost of lives as the pathway to peace was the key element of the show. As the dolls replaced fighters the cost of war had to be leveraged to an existential threat that humans must act out and learn from. In other words, the destruction of the earth is related to the production of the dolls. The logic behind this is embodied in all of the characters from the pacifist elites, ruthless financiers, and the soldiers acting it out. The moral code of the soldier as the force of justice as opposed to the empty programming of the dolls. Ect. Ect... the whole show justifies why humans must die in order to act out the grand tragedy that upholds peace. Btw this show is reactionary as hell, a modern remake would gut the show of its metaphysical/philosophical root and betray the spirit of the show.

While someone else will say living under any gov isn't peace or eliminating all life on earth is the only path to peace, while another person disagrees. Blueblur 22 I don’t know about ‘solid’. It’s not terrible, aside from a few cringe performances. There are some stand out performances also to be sure, so it was a huge step up from what we’d been used to for some time. It’s just that it doesn’t stand up the test of time for me, and is much worse than I remember. As for cheesy scenes, I have some hilarious doujinshi thanks to them. Not going to convince me those didn’t happen.

Gundam wing is my first experience with Gundam and will always have a place in my heart. That being said it does have problems... The biggest one is that the shows dialog is "trying" to be Shakespearean. "Trying" being the active word. You know a Shakespeare charater's monologing up a storm despite being example....stabbed in the throat. The lines "No machine gun for him, shoot him down!" That is meme material there. Is it just me or does Heero and Trowa seem to be the same character? The silent protagonist that doesn't afraid of death. I refuse to say, "perfect soldier" cause a soldier that is just an automaton waiting for his next "order" is NOT a perfect soldier by far. This is from someone that was actually in the military. If someone came in with a attitude like Heero has in my unit, that guy would have been hazed and bullied to death. Heero's and Relina's relationships seems very forced. I don't understand her obsession with Heero so I chalked it up to her being a teenager falling for the "bad boy". I think its funny that so many fight in mobile suits with so little safety gear. There was some that wore what looks like a leather helmet in a couple of episodes, but most of the time they pilot the MSs in old Prussian style uniforms. The music. Not talking about "just comunication" that ones is fine. I see what they were going for. Especially with the aristocratic europe feel, but example.... Trowa and Quetra are playing a flute and violin together and the only ones playing but you hear an entire orchestra. Its beautiful music, I will not dispute that, but it feels out of place or like that music peice is ment for another scene. They keep reusing the same scene, but most if not all Gundam shows suffer from this so this is more of a nitpick than an actual grievance.

🤨Yea it's just you that Heero and Trowa are the same characters. Heero acts like a jerk while Trowa is not nearly as off-putting. Heero is threatening people's lives for christ sakes. Trowa is not running around the circus telling people he is gonna kill them. Trowa also shows a soft side that Heero never shows during the series. You even pointed it out yourself when you mentioned Trowa playing the flute. Also you can't determine if a suit is safe if you don't know the full schematics of the suit. As for the music, Gundam Wing has some of the best soundtracks in the genre so not sure about what you're talking about there. Agree with your last point though.

When it first came to the US on Cartoon Network, I loved the show and watched it every chance I got. Years later, I came to realize that the show had some good ideas but it felt like it dragged on forever. There were too many recap episodes. It could have been a 40 episode series instead of 49. If you were a little kid watching this, I think a lot of the politics and philosophy of war went over you heard. You watched it to see giant robots beat each other up.
