Rewilding Lettoch is a small scale rewilding project located in the geographical centre of Scotland in Highland Perthshire. We're relatively small in size but big on ambition to share our story and influence others to take up the cause to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises.
Whilst we are not officially part of Scotland The Big Pictures wonderful rewilding community Northwoods, we enjoy a very good relationship with them and their growing community of rewilders.
Rewilding is not something that we can just leave to others so we decided to roll our sleeves up and get involved, and thanks to NatureScot and their Nature Restoration Fund grant scheme we have been able to get our project off the ground. But you don't need a grant to make a difference. You just need to know that you're action is vital, whether that be rewilding part of your garden, or your Highland Estate, whatever you happen to have influence over. And of course there are many projects out there, probably closer to you than you realise, that could always do with a helping hand to help nature.
Please share this video and do whatever you can to help nature recover. Thank you.

All Royal land should be rewilded. The shooting estates should be banned and rewilded. I wish I could afford to buy some land to rewild and hate the way farming has gone.

The problem is not exactly the deer and sheep, as it is their unfettered access to land. If wolves were reintroduced they keep deer moving and therefore they cannot graze the land bare. Check out the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone Park, which shows why deer can have a positive impact on the land too. I am fully aware however that wolves cannot be reintroduced around domesticated farm animals, if for no other reason than they are much easier prey and they will be wiped out before wolves would bother hunting a deer. I have wondered though if instead of keeping our dogs on the leash, if they could be trained to run the deer and keep them on the move…. ? Maybe game keepers, on large estates could do this ? Of course they won’t be too willing as it will make the deer more alert and harder to hunt, but I think its a fair compromise. And sheep just need to be fenced in and rotated from field to field.

You would like to think they might lead by example given their land and resources...........lets see if the change at the top makes a difference. You'd like to hope so. Thanks for watching. And remember that rewilding a window box is incredibly valuable (if everybody does it) and you can always find a local rewilding project and see if they need any volunteers to help. Or make sure your local council are rewilding as much as they can. That would make a massive difference and you don't need to own any land to do that. Thanks for watching. It means a lot. All the best.

Very well done!!! Great message!!! It is great fun to rewild but could tell you struggled to come up with a single word to use on why.... because there are many answers to why. Some are dark and others are joyful. We need many more people find a reason for themselves to rewild. I wish you and your team good luck as you have a new subscriber and also a enthusiastic rewilder in a suburban environment in the US. The amazing changes I see in my little plot of land shows me there is so much more possible! Dream big!!

Brilliant, thank you. It really does feel like we're in a growing movement. And as you say, the best part perhaps is that there are so many joys to be found in rewilding, whether it be photographing a bee landing on your plant pot on your window ledge and watching it gather up all that nectar, or seeing trees emerge from the ground you have protected from over grazing. Feels good, feels right, feels like something is changing. Thanks for following.

I sail through wilderness every day because that is where I live. What is wilderness...magic. I was once a big city dweller. Gradualism is a great danger. The example of the frog not jumping out of the gradually increasingly at boil dish is spot on. Slum dog millionaire is another stark example of humans actually at play in the most disheartening garbage mountain hell imaginable. Rewilding movement underway in our times is the best news and an inspiration.... a sort of Churchillian rallying call when in the most defeatist days of WW2 .....we will never surrender ....never giving up and fighting fighting fighting... on. This time it is the very planet we live on at threat. Thanks for the video.

So affirming to have confirmation that I’m part of an aware group of people taking action all over the earth to allow nature to regenerate. I am also fortunate to have around 7 acres of land which I have virtually on my own rewilded. Of course my circumstances are different but in my case the whole project slowly evolved over a number of years and nature herself does the work when given the freedom . It is amazing observing the innate intelligence that orchestrates the healing and the rich biodiversity that was waiting in the wings for the opportunity to correct mankind’s mistaken and arrogant view of his importance in the scheme of things. As you are in Scotland may I suggest you read the wonderful poem of the insightful, reflective national poet Robert Burns To A Mouse, which says it all. Thank you for sharing and spreading the message of hope. The future is in our hearts and hands and if not us who?🙏💚🫂🧘🏻‍♀️xx

Linda, thank you for your lovely comments. We truly have broken 'Nature's Social Union', and Burn's was saying that back in 1785! And Wordsworth could see it in 1802 in his poem 'The World is toom Much With us' - "Getting and spending we lay waste our powers"! But we are a growing movement. Let's hope we're not too little too late. All the best and thanks for watching.

Over here in the US, I’m rewilding my .5 acre suburban yard as much and as fast as I can. Battling nonnative, invasive, and damned difficult to kill species like winter creeper, English ivy, sweet autumn clematis, etc, is hard especially at 57 yrs old. Still I plod on. May not be much land wise but I’m giving Mother Nature a place to rest and cared for.

Your irony is not lost! Whilst we squabble amongst ourselves our planet is burning! Are we too stupid to see this? Seemingly the answer is yes! Let's keep going though. The small efforts of a rapidly growing movement might just turn work. And our current crop of blind world leaders won't last forever.

I hate to sound apocalyptic, but regardless of whether Humanity acts to change behavior or not, change will be imposed on Humanity. We can see how difficult it could be in 10-20 years to continue to grow towns and farms in the face of extreme droughts, with highly variable and unpredictable and sudden wet periods punctuated with massive inundation of rain or snow causing severe and catastrophic flooding. These aberrant weather behaviors will impact agriculture and food supply. When that becomes severe enough, the costs of producing food will rise. Basic food cost inflation will creep into the rest of the economy and in general will make living standards worse especially for those marginal populations. So, even human civilization will be pressured downward. Human population will respond to the ecological and resulting economic pressures with reduced fertility and higher infant and child mortality. And it will not be just in Sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia. but all over, poorer parts of south Europe, eastern Europe, Latin America and Asia will suffer. Those pressures will add up to an already steady decline of global human population. So, even if we do nothing, the pressure will reduce Human population and possibly that will be the action ultimately that will be needed? What would the impact of a smaller human population be? Possibly less carbon waste being produced by fossil fuels that were not being used by people that don't exist. I suspect that humanity is heading to a "better" ecologically stable population of 2-4 billion globally by the year 2150. Maybe more, and maybe sooner. We will see how bad things get first and how that will impact water and food supply in the coming decade.

The news clips seem to indicate that you are an environmentalist. The work you are doing is amazing and to me actually does a lot for conservationism. I agree with one comment below, stating that much more needs to be done. As an environmentalist myself I simply want to say that we need to do really *as much as we can* at this point. Something is absolutely better than nothing: but at this rate we won't be able to do what needs to be done. Unfortunately here comes a point you probably don't want to hear. Veganism might seem funny at times, and the community is definitely not super friendly in its entirety, however they are doing something that is absolutely necessary for our planet. Animal agriculture is damaging enough to single handedly cause climate disaster. This means that if every other polluting issue were to be eliminated, we would still face disaster. I am not asking you to become vegan, but I am calling for more awareness of the good it does (even though vegans are doing it for the wellbeing of animals). I am simply asking to reconsider your placement of it in the same list as "treehuggers". I hope you see my point and do not feel offense!
@lettochfilms
@lettochfilms 6 ай бұрын
None taken :-). I was just trying to make the point that I am 'ordinary' i.e. not an environmental campaigner, or a vegan etc etc (no offence intended), but even I realise things have to change and change fast. I recently read George Monbiot's book Regenesis and it's alarming (if you believe him, and he's very convincing if you take the time to read and listen to him) how much of an issue current agricultural practices are to the planet. I do quite a bit of work with a local regenerative farmer who's primary focus is soil health and biodiversity. His farm is amazing for wildlife, insects etc. That's at least something, but I guess to George not even that is enough. I also have a good friend who is a sheep farmer and he's looking at how he can rewild his farm whilst more sustainably still produce lamb. And even a golf course green keeper who is trying to 'rewild' where he can. That again is perhaps not enough but is still better than not doing anything. Things are slowing changing, but what's clear is our current path is not looking promising and things need to change faster. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting. Really appreciated.

Agreed, and the comments from around the world give me hope. Two years ago I wasn't rewilding and now I am. I can't be the only one. And if I'm doing it then there will be millions more doing the same and millions more about to start. I like to think of this as the early stages of a rapid and hopeful transition, but it will only happen if we make it happen. One person, one piece of land at a time. Might as well give it a go. We happen to have 17 acres so we're rewilding that. A few will have more and I hope their consciences will move them to take meaningful action, so they can look their kids in the eye and tell them they're part of the solution not the problem. And most will have tiny amounts of land and they too can make a home for bees and bugs and greenery, no matter how small. That collective effort will be massive. And of course we need to remember that many are simply trying to figure out how to live, to eat, and to survive. But those of us that can, should. And lets hope that's enough. Thanks for watching. Keep going.

Rewilding is a great thing to do on so many levels. But I would caution that some of the data coming from climate alarmists is not as solid science as you might think or have been led to believe, I can say that here in Canada yes we have had bad fire seasons in the last few years but also note that 65% of those fires were man made. some through stupidity and some just arson. the forests have been poorly managed for fire load for decades and now we are seeing the results of that. also note that we plant 1000 trees per minute here every minute. Over the Years in the UK I plants thousands of trees many are now huge and doing very well. pollution is the problem and waste. solve these 2 issues and things will improve considerably. but this relentless condemnation of co2 is at best misleading. our co2 PPM is some of the lowest in recorded history of the planet. so I would urge people to look at real data from actual climatologists. ignore the political smoke screens and yes get out there rewild as much as we can. but do it for the right reasons not as a knee jerk reaction to shaky data.

I guess there's some irony that your comment should land on the same day that the worst storm we've seen here in 20 years comes through and fells hundreds of mature trees, many on our recently newly installed deer fence. And that todays storm is just the latest in a series of storms and floods this year, the likes of which we have rarely seen here before. It is of course everyone's freedom to choose whether we believe climate change is real or not but our on the ground real live experience would suggest that something out of the ordinary is happening and that it's not good. Thanks for watching. Whatever your reasons for rewilding it can only do good so we're chuffed you're following along. Thank you.

@@lettochfilms sorry to hear about the storm there I dont watch the news much, I remember the Michael fish there will be no hurricane thing . he never lived that down however after that myself and a good friend planted thousands of new trees and that kicked off a massive replanting for sure. what was it 20 million trees or something like that in the hurricane. I know the world is warming and has been for a very long time mans addition is not helping that is for sure but what we are seeing is climatic variability . just look at Australia . drought for 10 years now record water flows, and fish that evolved in that cycle are now laying eggs etc ready for the next few decades buried in the dry mud. Im not anti global warming what i am against is the government and certain groups blaming everything on man kind when it clearly isnt.. there is to much greed and waste in the world.and politicians have to blame someone it could not possibly be as a result of their very poor policies on forest management. all they see is a fast profit and not the long term benefits. I have always been a tree nut , i still plant lots here in Canada but when our local forestry company plants 250,000 trees its just a small number that I plant, keep up the good work hope you guys can fix all the damage from the storms etc but do remember that the worlds weather runs on multi decadal cycles that come and go. mid 1800 mini ice age. 1930 record heat. its all a cycle so we have to separate what is a scientific fact from political fact.
