Love seeing invasives come down. This project is going to not only help your land, but also reduce the seed pressure from these invasives in the surrounding area. If someone went around my neighborhood and cut down all the trees of heaven, I wouldn't have to cut so many in my yard every year lol

maybe you can hire a chipper for a day to get rid of the unwanted branches and trees that you're cutting, that would be handy to clear space and make mulch for your new plants.... I am really loving watching this project, mate! Earth is my planet 🌏

You are such a wonderful example to follow! It is a ton of work, but it will be so beautiful as you go! I enjoy your videos so much! We cleared our lot of tons of metal, glass, plastic and all kinds of random debris, took a long time and help, so, I admire you! My Cantú ancestors were farmers, and loved the land; you have it in your DNA 💚

Really glad to see u spraying the stump with a strong mix. Has to be 20% or stronger. Also you may want to consider purchasing an Extractigator or a Pullerbear. Can save you money by needing less herbicide. Really well done.

amazing video. Chasmanthiun latifolium is one of my faves too. it's seed is majestic looking. You should plant some big ol Eutrochium (Joe pye weed) in there along the creek. it would be like a towering lighthouse to pollinator passerbys.

I would be curious to know if you have any background in ecological restoration or how you learned and got into it? I'm not sure if you've talked about it in a previous video. I'm currently a student in ecological restoration and it's great to follow what you're doing there. You could do so much with this little stream to improve water quality and retain water in your property while limiting potential flooding issues

My background is in art but I like plants and creating native habitat for wildlife. I don’t have a background in restoration whatsoever I just learned from the internet and like researching plants of the Southeast US. I definitely am going to build some ponds and creeks throughout the property.

The only thing I'd have done differently is to use that cut wood to make Beaver Dam Analogs. Not only will that keep the water on your land longer, but it'll help to flood out a lot of the unwanted growth that doesn't like wet feet. Plus, having more fresh water ponding on the property is great for the birds and pollinators.

That is a great idea in many applications but this is already a bottom land habitat by a bayou so the soil is very wet as is. If I were to back up that creek it would flood my neighbors land. I may however use that technique in common with others higher up to create a series of ponds around my orchard areas.

@@paulplantu You don't have to make the dams that large. Little "speed bumps" along the channel that slow the water so the floods don't cut the channel deeper are more than enough. The last ones I made were in a channel that was 3' deep, so I made them about 2' tall -- just high enough that they were impeding the flow, but the water didn't breech the banks. I lost a few of them when a big storm hit and the flood waters were powerful enough to move them, but that was okay by me because it meant that the water didn't rise high enough to cause problems outside of the channel. It's really neat to see how the plants change when the water is just a little higher in the soil.
