This is a good interview. It's nice when you can clearly tell they've done their research and ask different (and good) questions. It's a pity you weren't the entertainment reporter on the main stations growing up

She is doing some heavy lifting on carrying this interview. As always, her expressions and widening eyes always captivate.

The casting woman said if Bette didn’t go up for the big part, she’d make sure she’d get a job in the chorus because she didn’t want the director to see her because she wasn’t right for the big part? She wanted Bette go up for the part she wasn’t right for? I am so confused. Does anyone understand this? Thanks.

It was indeed confusing how she worded it. The casting director didn’t want her to go for the big part. Her guarantee of a chorus role was not a punishment but a “sure thing” prize, rather than not getting cast at all. Bette decided to shoot for the moon, while the casting director was convinced Bette wouldn’t get the role and therefore not be in the show at all.
