Nice review! I bought one of these right after Christmas, and while it's not perfect, it allows me to play my SNES cartridges without any issue.

I have this console and have to say I'm overall very pleased with it. My only issues with it are the Hyperkin logo at the beginning (not the biggest deal really) and the deinterlacing the scaler inside is doing that makes moving pixels softer looking.

Love seeing all this SNES footage! One of my favorite systems. Overall I guess this thing does what it sets out to do, but too bad about some of the glitches. At least the lag is on point. Now I want to bust out my SNES and play through all my cartridges :) Great video, Mike!

Yeah, it really does suck about those glitches. I wouldn't have mind using this for footage. If you do break out that SNES, it better be to play Ultima 6 for a review :D :D

Yeahhh that contra and tiny toons bugout would bug the crap out of me...but overall this seems like a great option for those who want HD SNES without dealing with framemeister, etc. Nice unboxing as well! ;) Also wanted to mention I dislike that hyperkin screen in the beginning as well. That's a huge detractor. Love the controller though! I have the Hyperkin NES classic controller, it's awesome.

I picked this up over the weekend. I've been playing it thru my 4K tv that also has digital optical in the back to connect to my soundbar/sub combo. I was playing through DKC2 and man, it felt and sounded just right. The only thing I don't like is that start up screen from hyperkin.

You failed to mention that the video does not scale properly. The pixels smooth out on motion because the video sourced is interlaced. Also, check out the composite hookups for us. You'd be surprised how terrible it is with the color contrast. Those wanting to use a light gun need to see this.

I have both a Retron 5 and an Analogue Super NT - If you can get ahold of an Analogue, it is insanely worth it. I am a fanatic for platformers, and the input lag is soooooooooo good on it. Trouble is, it is fracking expensive.

Love the Dracula X music! Man, I still think the Retron 5 looks better. Really weird about that Contra boss. Cool that you were able to capture it. It does sound like a great system, though!

The Retron 5 does look better but It's also emulation. Where as this console is trying to be mimic the console hardware. The DracX music was a must! That song specifically was stuck in my head when editing. So it made the cut hahaha I do like the console and will continue to use it on my TV for regular sessions. Not for footage though, maybe next time, Hyperkin.

Mine won't work with flashcarts, sd2snes or super everdrive. It looks like it does not output enough power to the cart :/

I bought one of these this summer. It worked fine, for awhile at least. When I went back and put in a new cartridge I kept getting black screens. Either it was something with the system or it was because I never used the eject button... and before anyone asked I did clean the cartridges

What would be better purchase, this coupled with the retron hd nes, or the retron 5? Interested in best quality / no lag. Don't care about genesis/etc only nes/snes in hd.

I had a Retron 5 and sucked big time, the SNES had crazy lag. I'm no master speed runner but I have been playing Donkey Kong country religiously since it's release and I died about 15 times trying to get through the first mine cart level because of the atrocious lag, there was also a horrible blurring/juddering effect with screen scrolling that made me feel ill.

Yeah I wouldn't be able to deal with lag (#1 deal killer), most what I play on SNES are platformers and fighters. I was playing on a CRT but kind of an eyesore for feng shui. Would love to play carts in HD on flatscreen. Thanks for info, and I've heard similar from it. I guess I should get this or another non emulation machine.

I prefer real hardware, but for what it's worth I'm really happy with my pi3 the lag is light-years better than any other emulation solution I've tried (I've also got the NES & SNES minis). The supa retron isn't perfect but it is really good and far better than the retro-bit/Gamerz tek alternatives especially where audio is concerned. For a cheapish NES clone I highly recommend the Hamy 8-bit HD (search "hamy hd" on aliexpress), it doesn't play castlevania 3 but other than that it has very nice color and perfect audio, it works with the Everdrive N8 and wipes the floor with the other similarly priced clones that you see being reviewed on youtube..

That's a tough call there. I would always suggest original hardware for this first. I reviewed the Retron HD and didn't think very highly of it. The Supa Retron is a big step up from that product but still has it's own set of problems. I've had little to zero problems with the Retron5 (mind you I load games off an SD. Not going to use my real cart for an emulation machine) So the broken pin problem isnt a thing for me. I haven't noticed much lag or any graphical issues. I like to speedrun DKC and the Retron5 hasn't been a problem in that department. I've actually stopped using emulators on my PC because this is easier and I can use my original controllers. BUT I'd say buy an OSSC if you are ready to spend the money on a Retron5.

Maybe it's a quality control issue, my Retron 5 was basically unusable and became bricked after running hyperkin's factory reset software. this seems to be a common opinion, but then others swear by it. Glad you like your system though, I have a pi3 build that I use extensively and really like. I prefer real hardware but have a busy life and unfortunately have rely on save states to finish anything. Keep up the good work with your channel, I really appreciate the honesty in your product reviews.

So many of my earlier videos are stretched out because I didn't really give a shit about it. Well I do prefer 4:3 now, 16:9 wont break me. I do like 16:9 for certain games on the genesis. I only use a proper aspect ration for my videos now. and again, thank you for the footage 😀👍

Yup! The game I am playing at the end (Do Re Mi fantasy) is a fan translated reproduction cart. It had no problems.

I'd have to side with the Super NT. The picture is better and so is the game compatibility. This is nice for the price but you will run into graphical issues with certain games.
