Nice to see that this is better than the Retron HD. I’m on my second HD as the power socket broke on my first one. The HD isn’t great but it is an easy way for me to be able to play the PAL carts in my collection. I have worries about Hyperkin’s quality control though. I’ve one one Retron HD and one hyperkin joypad stop working. The other issue with the Supa is that Super Famicoms are incredibly cheap and you can easily get super clean RGB output out of them. Why get a clone when an original is cheaper?

Picture quality-wise I prefer the super retro trio plus over this console. The one cologne I probably like the best, budget clone that is, is the Gamerz Tek Super HD 2. it has probably the best games compatibility that I found so far, as far as pal vs. Ntsc games, the audio is pretty accurate and the color palette seems to be closer to original too.

@RoXolid Жыл бұрын
If you're not going to use HDMI then I recommend the original system with HD Retrovision Component Video cables. It's simply the best
@EmperorOfTigers6 жыл бұрын
Really good video. Very informative. Thank you. This system looks really good to me. I really like the vivid colours. I'm a PAL user mainly so for me the affordable options are the Supa Retron HD and the Super Retro Trio Plus. I do have the Retron HD which I overall like so I'm just now sure what I should pick up out of the 2. I do own an original NES and SNES of which my SNES is RGB with a CRT television although a small one. The fact you get Genesis is cool too though as I own some Mega Drive games. However having to change the picture to 4:3 is annoying as for me it would mean having to set it everytime I turn a game on. I do rather like how Hyperkin gives you the option. I know FPGA based systems would be the most ideal but they are just too much money for me.
@RoXolid6 жыл бұрын
It is a hard choice for sure. There is the RetroGen HD coming from Hyperkin as well. If your TV doesn't have a 4:3/16:9 mode it can make the video aspect ratio...offputting
@EmperorOfTigers6 жыл бұрын
RoXolid Productions It is indeed. My TV does have the option but each time you turn the system off it loses the setting so you have to do it again after changing game. Like you I really dislike 16:9 for retro games. The thing that appeals abouts the Retron as well is the scout controllers as I did get the wireless one which feels amazing and works very well. I didn't get the issues you got.
@RoXolid6 жыл бұрын
I understand that, it is a work around though.

RoXolid Productions It is. I think the Supa Retron might be the system for me. The aspect ratio and more vivid colours and great controllers sell it to me I think. Plus as I said I've got a HD NES and might get Hyperkins Genesis system when it's out.

I needed pal compatibility also and purchased the retro trio, the SNES audio was horribly distorted and painful to listen to, so I returned it. I'm now waiting for a supa retron to arrive. I'm more into the NES than the SNES so don't want to invest in an NT.

It’s strange that it is easier to clone the more powerful 16bit snes then cloning the less powerful 8bit nes hardware,but i guess that the hardest part of cloning/emulating the nes hardware is to replicate/emulate the psg soundchip because it’s analogue and it requires the exact specefications of it and emulating analogue audio on a digital soundchip is very difficuilt and it requires recording and digitize those analogue sounds and you need to link them to those corresponding signals as well.

@RoXolid2 жыл бұрын
Almost. RetroTink 2x if you're budget-conscious, 5x if price is no object, but use HD Retovision Cables. That's how I have mine going and it's beautiful
@PoseMotion6 жыл бұрын
In order to get the best sharpness, you need a 720p or 4K TV. Iy has to be pixel per pixel display or divisible by integer. Viewing 720p content on a 1080p TV will have some stretching. Nice review though.
@RoXolid6 жыл бұрын
1080p is simply the maximum resolution, for example my 1080p tv renders 720P in it's native resolution
@PoseMotion6 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Your 1080p tv still has 1080 vertical pixels whether you play 720p content or not. Therefor, it stretches the 720p content to the entire screen height. So its sharpness is not going to be pixel perfect. Unless your tv has an option to only use 720 of the vertical pixels with a padding of 180 pixels on the top and bottom of the content, it's being stretched.

RoXolid Productions So the hell with your subs who look to you for your reviews? If you don't get a return then it doesn't matter? It's only the most important SNES clone out there but please continue with the garbage clones that you over hype and don't properly test and review.
@RoXolid6 жыл бұрын
+Shawn Redfield Not at all. It's more of an acknowledgement that there are already, only a few days after release, a ton of reviews out there by people that I know and respect who have reviewed the Super Analogue NT for people to check out. My review would be late to the game at this point. I am curious why you think I don't properly test and review systems? What would you like to see me change? I'm always looking to improve what I'm doing and am open to suggestions.
@Shawnredfield986 жыл бұрын
RoXolid Productions That's fair. I can respect that. I miss understood what you were trying to say. Sorry for my comment. I should of been more respectful like your response. I bring it up because some people really like a reviewer and they stand by their opinions on a product. As for the review process and it's a lot of channels I feel the lag should be properly tested. A lot of these clones that are getting good reviews have really bad input lag when tested properly. Retrorgb and Lon.tv have a method of testing the input lag and I feel that's extremely helpful and needed when reviewing these clone consoles. I do appreciate that you test with flash carts. A lot of places don't. Thanks for your response.
@RoXolid6 жыл бұрын
+Shawn Redfield While some clone systems do introduce some lag and latency, I grant you that, would you believe that many people can't or won't feel that difference? Also beyond the console other things affect lag and latency. Poor quality HDMI cables, TVs that aren't on game mode, cheap TVs all introduce lag and latency. To often we get hung up on numbers that, depending just on the last time someone's equipment was calibrated (if ever), could be way off. I'm a bit confused regarding your comment on flash carts. I don't own any and I don't test with any. At most I test with the multicarts like from Retro-bit because I actually own them.

@NewbeeX6 жыл бұрын
I just wondered if changing tv settings like sharpness, or even messing with color may be the key to making these cheaper alternatives look better. I have watched a few reviews on these clone consoles and no one seems to check and see if maybe adjusting picture settings on the tv itself. Plug, Play, KZbin review. Not saying anything negative about you or your review. I am glad I found your review.
@RoXolid6 жыл бұрын
I completely understand where you're coming from. There's a reason I do my unboxing and then a few days later I do the review. I figure the unboxing gives people the tech specs and everything and if they just want to see what it comes with that videos for them. On the flip side the review video generally I've played with the system for a couple of days and I've been able to get a good impression of its capabilities. Coming out of the system into my capture device however that eliminates the TV from the equation altogether so you are getting a true pure output from the system to get an idea of its capabilities. Can you play around with the settings to change things, absolutely. Do most people want to? Not really. Most people don't even want to calibrate their new flat panel TVs when they first install them

Looks surprisingly good for a cheap Chinese SNES clone. It seems quite a bit of progress has been made in the Chinese SNES-on-a-Chip implementations, judging from the good compatibility. Seeing SMRPG working is awesome. The video side of things have also made progress, it seems, as this doesn't look like just a cheap composite-to-HDMI converter having been added to the video output, but something a bit more sophisticated. However, it looks like 240p content is still processed as 480i, which is a deal-breaker. This flaw is quite apparent when the player's character takes damage in Super Castlevania IV. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, it looks like no Chinese clone console to date has ever processed 240p content correctly, and it looks like the manufacturers don't really care to fix this.

cheap clone systems are the cancer of retro gaming
@RoXolid6 жыл бұрын
I think that perspective is the cancer of retro gaming. Look at it this way, you have someone who finds their old collection of NES games in their parents attic as they get ready to move. Their reaction? "These are cool, I forgot I had these, I wonder if they still work?". They plug in their old NES to their modern TV and it looks and sounds terrible. Frustrated there are two likely paths they go down: 1) Looking for better options and find, hey, there's an HDMI-equipped system I can hook up that will look cleaner than my old NES, it will actually play the games instead of giving me a blinking light error and look decent. OH, and it is only $25-$40? That's pretty cool! Wait, there are these other systems that will even play SNES & Genesis carts? You know I never got into the Genesis but this would give me an opportunity. A year or two later this person has 120 games in his or her collection, has attended a swap or two and even upgraded their equipment to an Analogue Super NT and handed their "cheap clone system" down to their kid to use for casual enjoyment to keep growing the retro fan base. 2) Puts the system in the box, sells it in a garage sale, Craigslist, Facebook or donates to Goodwill and never gets back into retro gaming. I'll tell you path 1 really describes a lot of how I got back into it. My ex had her NES, we hooked it up and it looked like hot garbage. I did some research and bought my first clone in 2015, a Retron 5. With that my interest grew and grew and now I have a ton of original systems (Famicom, Sharp Famicom Twin, NES, SNES, Super Famicom, N64, Spice Orange Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, even a Model 1 Genesis) and games that I never would have gotten if I never bought one of those "cheap clone systems". As long as people are having fun does it really matter what they are playing on if it suits their needs? Just a different perspective to consider.
