Loved the rewrite! You fixed so many plot holes! I think Gohan surviving when the gang comes back is a plot hole. Instead what if the zamasus defeat Gohan and captured him so the second Zamasu can switch bodies with him. Small change, but it helps maintain the logic.

One small thing I would like to see in this version: When Gowazu and Zamasu go back in time with the rings and see Goku’s journey in Z, I want it to also briefly show some parts from Dragon Ball, maybe just one or two tournaments and a Piccolo Daimao fight. If you wanna get real spicy, you can add some new footage of Vegeta doing his thing during the Dragon Ball era (which we never really see). Small little fan service that doesn’t really do too much different from your version, but seeing vegeta’s past here as an Easter egg would be heat

Zamasu stole Goku's body becasue of the tournament not because he fought Goku while under investigation. That's also why Zamasu tried to kill Gowasu earlier in this timeline while in the timeline Black is from it's stated that he stole Goku's body a year later, meaning that the investigation accelerated Zamasu's original plan to become Goku Black. There are three timelines in this mix, not two. One where Goku Black killed all of Goku's family and the kais, trunks' timeline, and the present timeline.

I still think goku black is just as good for the story as gohan black, goku since was always this beacon of hope for trunks, as he never met him and until and during the cell saga he saw goku as what the stories told him so for this beacon of hope that he trusted becoming the same reason as to why everything is being destroyed works pretty well, so i think goku black is better for the sake of the story and gohan black would be better for individual character developement

I liked this version a lot. Allowing Gohan and Trunks to be the ones to do it on their own without the need of their fathers shows how exceptional they've become. One thing that I would add to give Goku some stakes is from the filler episode between universe 6 and Trunks where Goku isn't able to utilise his Ki very well due to pushing himself to hard against Hit's time skip. That would've meant that he wouldn't have had access to any of his transformations, and thus would've been sidebarred while he tries to figure out how to fix this issue

Goku black arc was hype over plot. We have evil goku get a new form and an immortal kai with fan favorite future trunks. vegito blue being needed to fight zamasu? Hell yeah. I enjoy your work, Mark. I've loved your rewrites, and I've followed your channel more and more over the years. I see you growing, honing your craft and doing better and better. I remember being drawn in by your videos summarizing the super manga arcs, loving how exciting you made them adding music and sound effects. Your videos on GT fulfilled a really weird need I had that I didn't even realize was there, making something I felt conflicted about feel natural again. Dragon Ball's canon is all over the place sometimes, and being someone who cares very much about keeping consistency, it can bug me when things feel like they don't respect the original work I originally poured myself into, and that goes doubly for stuff I just find to be stupid. I felt this way about GT, and I felt parts of this feeling for Super. Your video on GT is now my headcanon for how that went, and I've now found a way to love a series I could only partly love before. This of course goes also for the arcs you've been doing so far, and I can confidently say I like your versions way better than the original source material of super. I really disliked a lot of the Black arc because of how confusing it was and how many retcons there were. This took the parts that were meaningful and reshaped them to something I can love again. Thank you for your work here, I very much enjoy watching your videos and I enjoy the way you make your stories work. I'm excited for the conclusion of what you're cooking up, and I can't wait for whatever you make in the future. Don't stop at your limits, crash through them, and best of luck in the future. They should've done that honestly Have Goku escape to Kame House to learn the Mafuba and spend some downtime with his wife, showing us more of the future while Vegeta makes it to the past and goes to the Time Chamber for a few months in order to perfect SSB in order to reach Black's Rosé level. Vegeta's energy once he comes back would be a signal for Goku that it's ok to go back to the fight. Goku seals Zamasu in a 1v1 and Vegeta faces Black with Trunks, who finishes him off with a sneak attack in order to save his father after Black and Vegeta exhaust each other.

Really Great video! I like the switch up to Gohan Black, and as a long time Gohan fan, I love the idea of him getting more screen time and importance to the story (which being Trunks' master, makes a lot more thematic sense as you say). Also, the ending being a mafuba I think is great, although maybe not the most climactic of finishers for a whole arc, with the corner they had written themselves to in the original version, it at least beats the downer of an ending we got in the show! Mark, your analysis on what the Goku Black arc was and is now is a good point. When i was watching the arc, i found it really enjoyable (even if i already spoiled myself on it), but when the arc it was the most empty and frustrating feeling i had. Like when Gohan says goobye to Trunks and he sees a bit of Future Gohan and cries, i just yelled out :THIS ACTUALLY COULD'VE BEEN EMOTIONAL IF HE DID SOMETHING". Despite my hiccups with Black, i think is arc is good and while i dont agree with ever single choice like Gohan Black and the way to finish Merged Zamasu, your rewrite really did fix the issues i had with this arc and thankful you let many moments in the anime intact. Can't wait for the TOP rewrite.

The hardest part about fixing this arc is how many pieces work together, but can’t all fit. Zeno defeating Zamasu is perfect for setting up the ToP/actually losing to a villian is great/giving Trunks the bleak ending is great to value more the sacrifices he gave to the past to save it. But also defeating him with fusion is perfect. But also defeating him with the Spirit Sword is perfect. And the Mafuba as well. All of these pieces worked, but they all worked too well and fought each other for supremacy. Must have been a tough challenge to be able to pick an option when all of them work great and know which to cut. Keep up the good work

The Mafuba should work and trap Zamasu but Goku Black break the jar and free him. Gets rid of the idiot ball and has the Mafuba get its moment of glory but Black can freak everyone out by rescuing his other half.

Imagine if Fused Zamasu knew a way to cut a potara fusion's powers by just destroying the earrings, thus making the fusion end. It would still be in line with the whole Potara technically not being forever as well as nice foreshadowing for the T.O.P. when Kefla fuses. As for Spirit Sword? Simple. Have King Kai from Trunks's Future, hit up Goku with confusion. As plot holey as this could be, it might be a way of explaining why King Kai couldn't reach out-- he's only ever made a close enough connection in telepathy with someone in Goku; someone who was dead then came back to life, so in a way, King Kai had a natural spiritual link that was severed when Goku died of natural causes. Thus, when the Goku from our timeline shows up, King Kai is confused and talks with Goku. This can lead to him stating how he hid from Zamasu/Goku Black during his crusade against the other Kais, and how he thinks the Spirit Bomb could still work if Goku mentions how he used it to take out Kid Buu.

The ToP was gonna happen anyway due to Goku's request, and the villain won, but only in the future, so no consequence for our main characters. Regardless of execution, even on paper some of the story beats of the finale are terrible.

@ Right because the villian can’t win in the main timeline and kill all the main characters, so we have to lose something besides the main characters, and Trunks’ timeline is the perfect thing to lose. Trunk’s entire character was how he lives in the bleak future and fights for a better one. When it comes time to return the favor it is discovered to be impossible. Trunks is doomed to the bad ending, and how he reacts to it is nice, he feels happy and proud he got to save someone else’s future. I don’t think the entire arc was needed and I think it should have been skipped, but what we did get just further built on that theme and I’m happy we didn’t get too good of an ending for Trunks because it would fly in the face of previous theming (so what everyone he knows and loves dies but because we stopped Zamasu all is happy for Trunks now?)

Another awesome video right here. Actually felt myself getting hype just imagining that Gohan and Fused Zamasu potential Kamehameha clash. Also love that Trunks isn't ridiculously strong either. Mafuba ending is perfect and it also gives an opportunity for Gohan Black/Merged Zamasu to come back. I honestly thought you would have just used the creation of Goku Black from the manga instead of stressing yourself because that version makes more sense than the anime and falls in line with the way Toriyama set things out before. You forgot that in the original story, so long as Black is wearing the Time Ring, he is unaffected or removed from time. This reason is why Beerus's Hakai had no effect. Black Himself explains why he still existed despite the paradox of his past self being dead.

No, the problem is that for Black to exist he either had to be investigated first, which ends on him getting Hakai and not a time ring or you have to argue for like three different timelines that makes it substantly more complicated than Mark's much simpler solution.

I absolutely love what you're doing here! Was wondering if maybe you were thinking about "re-writing" the DBZ movies to fit the canon timeline? I think the villains are fairly compelling, I had a few skeleton ideas where slug and turles were a team, and slugs youth came from the tree of might, and they attacked earth during the time Goku was on yardrat giving the spotlight to piccolo and Vegeta to stave off the attack, And I the spirit of combining, Dr wheelo and Android 13 could be a cool one? Like he made the android with gero and something happened to put him in that mech suit, but he continued his work so he could create a body for himself? Just a couple ideas I've had for years but would love to see someone much better at editing work with if you were interested :)

Assuming he saw the lives of Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan, he likely saw Gohan as the one with more potential (which ends up being true in Super Hero with Beast). Zamasu probably figured if Gohan had access to God ki, he'll be more powerful than the other two Saiyans.

In Mark's version, he can still view seeing a mortal with God ki as something blasphemous and continue his plan for genocide. I personally think Mark's version is better written, but I'm sure there are ways to improve it. It's just tough getting all the pieces to line up with how the time travel mechanics work and making sure Beerus is not involved.

Sparking Zero was already great but the best thing it gave us was Gohan having a proper earned moment to shine while also fixing the Black/Zamasu Arc ending. Ever since I saw that what if I decided to discard the original arc and take the Sparking Zero What if as canon as it even blends together so well with the ToP foward. I'm glad to see that you chose to take the Sparking Zero route as it just feels so much more organic and compelling than the original Goku Black. Imagining these scenarios happening gave me a lot of emotions and if this was the original/canon story it would have been no doubt the BEST arc of not just Super, Dragon Ball in general.
