Vegeta's acknowledgement of Goku as his superior was about him realizing specifically why Goku was better than him, not just that he was. It was Vegeta coming to the realization that their difference in mindset was the key difference that set them apart. Vegeta realized that his desire to grow stronger had been motivated by all the wrong reasons and that his own selfishness was holding him back from reaching his true potential. He wasn't saying that he would never be better than Goku, he was merely respectfully acknowledging Goku as his better in that moment. That if he were to continue on the path he had been on up to that point, he couldn't have ever surpassed Goku. It was then in that moment that Vegeta for the first time ever truly understood Goku and admitted that Goku's mentality regarding self improvement was superior to his own. But of course Vegeta's competitive down to his very soul. Goku is the same way, they both live for the thrill of pushing themselves to their limits and coming out on top. Goku's worst nightmare would be for there to be nothing left for him to learn, no more challenges to overcome. The very thing that makes his Saiyan mind tic is his desire to wake up every morning knowing that he can do just a little bit more than he could yesterday. Vegeta doesn't just get that mindset, he agrees with it. Their rivalry isn't about one proving their superiority over the other once and for all, it's about scaling that next greatest mountain peak. Between the both of them always growing stronger than they were before, they present a newer, greater challenge for each other to overcome. These two will keep on fighting each other until the very end, because that is the greatest thing possible for them to look forward to. It's what gives their endless struggle for self improvement meaning. It is the very thing that gives them their pride.

I would have gone a step further, and have Goten Black, though not as a Body Swap, but as sort of corrupted child raising. In this version of the timeline, Goten WAS born, but was taken by Zamasu instead of body swapping with Goku. Taking a young, impressionable Goten into space and raising him for an untold amount of time. Then, when it came time for Fused Zamasu, it’s a corrupted Goten forcing Trunks to fuse with him, into a Troten if you will. With Goten in full control. Then, present day Goten and Trunks have to become Gotenks to battle against Troten, and Present Goten mentally conversing with Future Goten through the fight, and having Present Goten acknowledge that life isn’t perfect, but by contrast, Future Goten learns that he had been lied to by Zamasu and that his life was not as it should have been. Future Goten wasn’t going to heel turn against Zamasu so easily, but told Present Goten to overpower him and destroy the Potara Earrings so Zamasu couldn’t use them to fuse himself with Future Goten as Fused Zamasu. And once that’s done, Gotenks would take up Future Trunks’s sword and use the Spirit Sword to destroy Zamasu. From there, Future Trunks would be given a radar to find the Super Dragonballs to restore his timeline to as it was prior to Zamasu’s mechanizations. Leaving Future Trunks timeline in a much better place and Present Goten and Trunks taking in a lesson from their future counterparts and start taking their future more seriously even if they have their families alive, unlike Future Goten and Trunks. Thoughts?

Durning the buu saga days Toriyama said gohan was the greatest martial artist on earth . Why y'all want him to get beaten by krillin who retires from martial arts just like gohan ? I am perfectly fine with cutting Roshi from the lineup in the anime... but not the manga version. I just love Roshi's final lesson to Goku in manga, and how it helps him finally unlock Ultra Instinct. Actually, for that matter, Ultra Instinct is also handled way better in the manga, as opposed to the anime where Goku just kind of randomly falls into it.

I like that Roshi and Gohan had sometime training and very surprised that never happened. I too am a fan of the Gohan and Piccolo relationship but people tend to forget how young he is. Yes he has Nail's and Kami's life experience and maybe the Demon king, but Piccolo is only 8 yrs older than Gohan. He, Dende, and Gohan should have a relationship like Krillin and Goku. Seeing how slow and old namakians age and live Piccolo should look more like Dende than Nails. As such Piccolo should be seen like an older brother/senpai and maybe Roshi should have stepped up to being Gohan's teacher.

Nah, Roshi needs to be there. Both manga and anime did Roshi too good to leave out. Also I love Gohan but no way you took Hit v Jiren out.

Goku could just be a pokemon and solo

Everybody loves this arc, but I absolutely hate it. People go gaga over the action and animation, but in my opinion, it has some of the worst writing for both plot and characters in the entire franchise. And I recently had someone try to justify to me that "it's just a tournament, it doesn't need a deep plot, just an excuse for the characters to fight each other." I just rolled my eyes and pointed to the original tournament arcs from the OG Dragon Ball series.

bog was great rof was good Universe 6 was sorta cool but could have been better goku black was cool but wished trunks was taken under someone else's wing as a "we're sorry" vibe Trunks training under the various kais and or under grand priest. priest admits his bad, his other version should have been on the ball and it failed, can Future trunks help him out to prevent this from ever happening? boom easy trunks write off and a level of training. also you can have him be in side episode and pull him whenever you want but be away from plot. Top wasn't perfect but cool brolly was cool. ps all I wished was a movie / mini arcs of kai of time with trunks and Baradok so you can have trunks return and show of baradok glaze and get ssj4 in lore but just not used in canon. pss, more gohan love.

Interested to see where this goes! When I re-imagined ToP elements, I had Trunks stick around from the previous arc to take the place of Roshi. Trunks aids Freeza against Dyspo, and when Dyspo is defeated Freeza turns on Trunks and eliminates him as well, making Freeza a more prominent and ominous threat as the climax approaches. I have Toppo face Gohan, 17, and Freeza, and when he embraces his God of Destruction form, after beating down Freeza he seemingly erases 17 with a sphere of Destruction energy (in reality Freeza resuces him from the Destruction energy, but they both hide to recover and wait for a better moment to counter-attack). This prompts a rage burst from Gohan into a super saiyan form, but his attacks only seem to stoke Toppo's power greater (hints at Ultra Ego). Eventually Piccolo tells Gohan to remember that he wanted to fight in the ToP as a human. Gohan calms down and reverts to his base form. He explains to Toppo that his rage has always given him great power, but rarely actually gets the job done - we reflect on his rage bursts against Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, and Freeza, all enemies he failed to actually defeat. Even when he did manage to use his anger to beat Cell, his anger got the better of him and he lost his father. Instead, Gohan resolves to control his own power rather than rely on anger, and activates his Ultimate form (the first time he's used it since Battle of Gods). Keeping calm and collected, Gohan deals with Toppo's attacks one after another, his gentle focused energy dispersing the chaotic Destruction energy of Toppo, and his attacks failing to empower Toppo's Ultra Ego. The other Destroyers see this, and the Elder Kaioshin explains that he designed the 'ultimate' form to be a counter to the Gods of Destruction and their specific energy. This is the real reason Beerus sealed him away, since he didn't approve of the form. Gohan gradually dismantles Toppo, and uses a final outburst of all his power to negate the Destruction energy and revert Toppo back to normal, resulting in his defeat and collapse. These are the big changes I think, I had lots of smaller moments (Cabba fights Nigrishi more seriously, Dr. Pepperoni 'hacks' Androids 17 & 18 briefly, etc.) but mostly I liked the ToP. I would have included all the extra bits of Jiren's motivation for his wish that was in the manga but absent in the anime - I love Jiren but he's at best half a character in both manga and anime, and just barely becomes a complete one when you combine both.
