Hey gang, I know this is pretty outside my usual wheelhouse, but I thought I'd try out a new green screen format and do a topic I wouldn't normally (at least not as its own dedicated video). Sorry this video looks so crunchy btw I recorded it on an android cell phone, it is what it is youtubes but eeeeeither way. I realize this will be probably somewhat controversial, especially since season 2 is being pretty well received, but despite all my trash talk on the series, this is all in good fun, and I encourage you to comment your own ideas, critique mine, whatever. This shit aint that serious :) Anyway hope you kids like the 1987 comedy ISHTAR because that's almost certainly what the next video will be. I'm continuing on my confusing and counter intuitive journey to build up an audience that mostly doesn't care about anything that isn't initial D and won't watch anything else I do.

heres one of the reasons why I think Shigeno made MF ghost to be a closed circuit pile of shit: After Initial D and that whole touge culture thing got out of hand, its basically illegal now. Well known touge like Irohazaka are frequently patrolled by police now to make sure the street racers dont come back. The government has done everything it can to wipe that culture out. If shigeno had done another touge style series, it would have restarted that boom, and he may have been arrested for some bogus accessory to murder charge or something for "promoting" dangerous activities. Being you dont live here, you have no idea of the realities of living here nor how things have been forcefully changed. And BTW just a short walk down the street theres a gorgeous MR2 sitting in a driveway, so fuck you i get to see amazing old sports cars all the time XD

This is the best description of MFG I've seen. I think most of the people who defend MFG have either never seen Initial D or are old fans of Initial D sucked in by nostalgia bait of "Haha the underdog car punches above it's class and wins every time", except it doesn't take a genius to see why a GT86 beating a Porsche 911 is weird and dumb in comparison to an AE86 winning against an R32, even if it sounds slightly absurd. That and the underage bs that makes me gag, Initial D (to my memory) didn't feature things like that unless you count the Merc guy arc, and even then I don't feel like any of that was as bad as drawing and sexualizing multiple minors that could be adults with no major affect on the plotline. Like seriously, why are they underage, there's no reason, it changes nothing and only makes it super creepy.

@@clockwork3494 I read the first few chapters. You got a sex scene right at the first few pages, but that's just one panel. The most understated thing about Initial D is that the anime retold the story in a different way than the manga, and is the very reason why the anime is better than the manga (example: the gas-drinking skit and Impact Blue Sileighty race). There's so much charm and emotion seeing characters standing in different poses, and jokes delivered with more energy. That's why, despite a better visual quality and CGI, Battle Stage movies wasn't the same as Stage 1 due to how it adapted the original manga.

@@donnycorn3086 That's fair, it's been a long time since I read the manga and there's things I'm bound to forget, plus I don't think I ever fully finished it myself. That said, such feels minimal in comparison and overall the focus is still mainly on the cars, so when anything like that pops up, it can be offputting but doesn't feel obnoxious to the extent MFG does where they try justifying minors being the angels and by extent people being attracted to them. Plus as you mentioned, the anime adaptation of Initial D seeked to cut that stuff out and better the cast and banter between them, while MFG makes no attempt at doing so. Sometimes - popular to contrary belief, deviations from the source material can be a positive like Initial D, it's just a shame MFG didn't really seek to do the same.

MF Ghost's "supercars on the touge" idea is honestly very interesting, it's just that Shuichi went and came up with a very lazy "pull it out of my ass" explenation for how and why Katana Onigiri keeps getting higher places. also the fact that everyone except for 3 stinkers in mid-sized sports cars is disabled at driving is insane. nobody except for like 2 or 3 drivers has a defining driving style either.

IIRC the fastest car at Gunsai was an AMG GTR for a few years until a heavily modified GR 86 covered in carbon fiber took the record by 5 milliseconds. Driving big and powerful supercars on the touge is possible assuming the driver is skilled.

Personally I think what MFG did wrong was forgetting the universe's gay roots, cause street racers don't need girls and we gotta concentrate only on D. I mean, clearly Ryousuke thinks so since he stays a damn bachelor and extremely hung up on Takumi until he's like 40 or something, where he finds out that one of his nurses is related to Takumi's adoptive-son-and-racing-savant and says "fine, close enough". Also Kenta still simping for Keisuke even after he's outgrown his brother complex and gotten married to Kyoko so that SOMEONE can make a family heir, pretty sad too. Like, MF Ghost is the bad ending. The ending where Takumi takes the whole "wider world" thing a bit too far, Bunta dies in one of the Fuji eruption's earthquakes, Ryousuke jumps headfirst back into the closet and postpones that whole promise he made to Kaori until after a major world-changing volcanic eruption, and lets whatever marketing idiot suggested "underage girls in skimpy clothing" keep having his job. Edit: yall want me to explain WHY Initial D is gay? Alright. Buckle up. My gay headcanons got CITATIONS. All 3 of our MCs are either gay or bi. Takumi's MOSTLY straight but c'mon, the amount of blushing and preening under Ryousuke's praise that happens is EXTREMELY sus, not to mention the way he treats calling Ryousuke like he's trying to ask out a girlfriend in 3rd stage, or how heavily-loaded the dialog during their rematch gets. Not to mention that for the entirety of 4th stage, Takumi's dodging the girlfriend questions from the gas station guys about as hard as Keisuke's dodging the SAME questions and only even brings up Natsuki when asked first. Then there's Keisuke, the guy who freely admits on two separate occasions (to Fumihiro just after Kyoko's first appearance, and to Kyoko on the pity-date) that he broke up with his last GF literally THE DAY AFTER aniki took him down Akagi for the first time. And he straight up doesn't actually notice girls except for their driving, Kyoko's not even the FIRST girl he blows off to focus on aniki's D cause he LAUGHS IN THE FACE of another girl in that WasteGate bonus chapter. And God Foot's gaydar goes off so hard he forgets why he even came over to talk in the first place. Then there's all that VERY BLATANT FLIRTING with Takumi during Kanagawa. And the fact that Go Hojo straight-up says that the Takahashi brothers being "so close" makes him sick, which is made EVEN MORE suspicious by the amount of promo art the brothers have in questionable situations (like the dang RedSuns yaoi poster that was the Midnight Screening promo for Legend 3, or the two of them in a tiny-ass onsen on that manhole cover) AND the fact that in the Vocal Battle Special (ft. Takahashi Bros/RedSuns), literally all of their duets are love songs except for Kiseki No Hana. And finally, Ryousuke, the guy who spends all of 3rd stage in bisexual lighting, admits that he has only ever felt attraction to ONE(1) woman ever, his driver profile in the manga flat-out states that he hates big-breasted women, etc. Not to mention, this is the guy who sends A DOZEN RED ROSES to challenge Takumi to race, wears a white leisure suit (which gets nice n sweaty and then thrown at Keisuke), and then comes to the gas station in a pink blouse and lavendar cardigan just to give Takumi his number (and compliment him til he's blushing so hard his coworkers call him on it). Oh, and that whole speech before their first race about Takumi and Keisuke being the only two people who had a chance at beating him, the VAs REALLY didn't have to make it sound so horny but they did it anyway. Throw in all the gay/bi background characters, like the Night Kids (who are Definitely Not Friends™ when Shingo straight up teases Takeshi for liking girls in Extra Stage, they hold hands at the end of 3rd Stage, and are VERY comfortable together in their 5th/Final cameo), Impact Blue (Sayuki's remark about "don't be so naive!" wrt Mako giving away her virginity is VERY telling, along with the whole "they were roommates" thing), Kenta (this one's obvious), Matsumoto (the man straight up SAYS he loves Ryousuke in the official translation of the Shinigami battle in the manga), Nobuhiko and his bleach-blonde bf who straight up says he "feels conflicted" cause he "finds Keisuke attractive", and Purple Shadow who call each other Jo-chan and Ho-chan and look like my old gay-bear-couple landlords.

Universe's WHAT roots? My 2 yen: i think Initial D's relationship stories are more about unable to love or have a normal relationship with a girl when you are already going so fast in a car, chasing for glory among the street racers. That said, there's no hint of people being sexually attracted to same sex at all. Even the rose bouquet in the first stage was viewed as a formal challenge invitation in the world of Initial D, nothing that romantic. But to be fair, I never finished Stage 4 and has already given up on consuming any more of Initial D media. If they really did talk about boy loves and shit, I don't mind, but I also don't care, cuz that's not the reason why I don't watch or read MF Ghost.

I feel like everything u said here is the best idea pretty much, but I feel like if there were some sort of alternate universe where ppl got something better than MF GHOST season 1, the go-to move wouldn't be to make the MC a hot-headed self-sucker who wants beef with everyone bc they love OG street racing. I think Kanata knowing Takumi is a good thing, but it should be less of a "oh that guy was my teacher in school" and more like a mister Miyagi type thing where Takumi finds a singular student to carry on a legacy after his retirement because of a life threatening accident, but he doesn't really have a school and he's just teaching Kanata in his back yard. I feel like the more underground nature of secretly training an industry Phenom keeps the original feeling of how Bunta is with Takumi, but it also still sets up the plot in a way where trying to beat all of the foreign rich-kids with 6-digit priced cars still has weight because it keeps the central message that skill and dedication matter over money and talent. Kanata can still be a little hot-headed and have a loose trigger, but it wouldn't be bcuz he just wants to preserve the 90's stuff cuz he thinks its cool and he's just a future counter culture guy, it would be because he feels he would be the sole person with the possibility to preserve it for his teacher and for the rest of the sparse car scene that exists in the MF GHOST evil google car future who can't afford factory race cars to race in and who still represent the passion and ingenuity of the 90's to 2000's era car scene.

I feel like there should have been multi-class racing and a greater prioritization on lower-end sports models like the canon backmarkers or EDPtari and his Alpine or that one Blitz GR86 later on (i.e. Focus RS, WRX STI, 370Z Nismo, Golf R, maybe Camaro SS/Mustang GT if you want to stretch the meaning of "lower-end" a bit). I think I could find it more feasible than "le 86 can beat supercars".

What if MF Ghost used even lower-end cars? Like, in the universe of MF Ghost, where an ordinary joe can't realistically afford to have any non-electric car, gasoline-powered sports cars must be going for insane prices. Perhaps the Focus RS (in MFG) is priced just like the NISMO Skyline R34 (in our time), AT MINIMUM. I'd love to see budget cars tuned to hell using junk or DIY parts MacGyver-style and going head-to-head on track. Plus it would really relate to the economic situation right now, with rising costs of living making it harder to be a car enthusiast.

It would actually kinda remind me of NFS Heat with the whole Legal in the day, Illegal in the night dynamic. Maybe add some risk to the night like the road is out of good condition because there was an oil spill before or sth. Really cool idea, also he could maybe even lean in more to the gambling side and maybe trade in his cars for better ones along the way that he needs to learn and perfect. For example, sells the 86 and is looking for another car (insert comedy episode where he looks at either rusted, clapped out or overpriced cars) and lets say finds a 997 Carrera for cheap, he now needs to find the strengths and weaknesses of said car, like RR, pendulum, that sort of stuff. This would provide some good content to fill out the blankness.

I really liked your idea of redoing the main character of MF Ghost as a Keisuke 2 - that would be brilliant! I agree with the premise of having progression and the character improving rather than being great from Day 1. About the MF Angel thing, I'm on board with ya. Maybe because I'm a degenerate who's into cars and women, but this job still being relevant especially in Japan for a reason or 2. - You don't have to have extensive knowledge on cars or mechanics, just the usual greetings in front of the camera. - Salary. Not as big as mechanics or driver, but less work than them. Neat. - This is the widest gateway for female car enthusiasts to approach their favorite interest.

I think qualifying rounds could be kept but you do it like 4th stage did their pre battle run-throughs of the tracks. And so you get an idea of how the character(s) think or what they think could be useful for them to get an advantage over all the other drivers, similar to how Takumi would analyze the track to gain a new tactic or even entirely new runs from his opponent.(such as the God Hand fight)

I think it would maybe it would be interesting if they somewhat kept the Takumi teaching Kanata thing but heavily changed it, building upon what you said at 10:39 Takumi could maybe see potential in Kanata after being called out, maybe Takumi even gets reminded of Keisuke. Takumi could then become the mentor of Kanata however rather than just giving Kanata plot armor, he gradually has to learn to become a better racer from Takumi, and slowly but surely improve his skills until he can continue to rank up within MFG, sort of similar to another anime Hajime No Ippo based around boxing where the main character starts out with nothing but his coach and friends gradually help him improve. Also maybe change MFG to be based around rally racing which could greatly increase the stakes of the races.

Sounds like something I'd absolutely have loved and probably one of my top 10 favorite anime. If only!!! I dropped MFG while watching it with my younger brother because I couldn't get over how badly the Angel girls were treated in comparison to how the guys got respect and a career. They got their butts in HD on live TV and weren't asked what cars they like or what they enjoy about racing, just who their favorite racer was. As the gearhead in my family, it felt like a huge stab in the back. I want a better way to get close to cars without baring all for the men. Usually I can ignore it but it was in each episode without reason.

I had the same thought. I grew up watching Initial D. I got so dissatisfied with MF Ghost that I started having vision of my own Initial D sequel. I had this thought more than 2 years ago and actually started writing an original street racer story that I just recently completed and started uploading to Wattpad and Royal Road. The main gripe I had was that with the premise of the world transitioning to EVs and self driving car, I think the idea that a race series like MFG would become a worldwide phenomenon is highly unlikely. So I just made it the present day, and with a few guys with disposable income who likes driving and the community aspect like how Initial D was. However, the amount of people participating is far less than the 90's when Initial D started, because the world moved on. The proportion of participants would also be older as there's less and less younger guy around. It's the working age guys who grew up watching Initial D who would still be interested in something like this. The character arc could still very much be the random kid who had to learn to become seriously good as suggested. It's still a good story even if a little basic. And I made the hero car the Toyota Probox because it's basically AE86 of 2024. Is this story as exciting as watching MF Ghost? Probably not. It's prose and not moving image. But as I set off with a goal only to write what I'd want to read I'm still satisfied with that. I basically made Initial D for a 30 year old who's tired at life. Which is me.

Before I say anything let me make it clear that I respect everyones opinions, its subjective and thats that. To start it off, never rewrite a story again bro, it just seems like a takeover kid trying to be keisuke v2. Now to start with my personal thoughts and opinions on MFG describing characters and the setting including the story line Firstly with the setting 1. I believe that there couldve possibly been a continuation of Initial D where after the series end, it focuses on the characters achievements who made it pro, as common as it sounds, I believe it would be a better way to anticipate the fact that MFG could be something like a third part of a trilogy series, where the first one is Initial D, the second one Initial R(ally) lol and the third one the so called future of racing left after our characters retirment, MF Ghost. That way it would build up this whole thing, instead of Shigeni being like "so hey Ryosuke made this shit and everyone is digging it including previous importsnt characters. 2. I believe that as is, MFG isn't that horrible when it comes to settings although some things shouldve been done diffrently. The fact its now organised by previous retired touge enthusiast makes it kind of cool, look at it as BEST MOTORING type of contest where they duke it out on the mountain passes. 3. I believe everyone is stuck with a big chunk of nostalgia from initial D "oh but it isnt as great as initial D" my brother you cant have a straight peak series it has to have its ups and downs, everyone wanted Initial D to just keep being season 1 but there had to be some kind of progress in the story where characters evolved instead of just straight up "hey bro 11pm Akina be there or everyone will publicly shun you" -----------End for Storyline----------- Now Ill talk about characters, who I believe are decent enough, cause I have to admit it myself but Initial Ds characters stuck much better with me too. 1. I have to agree its absolutely disgusting the fact theres pedophilia involved in the series with Sawatari Kokis kink and all that stuff, so I also agree thats a BIG minus for the series. Aibas knowledge of the Angel 7 (forgot her name she too irrelevant to be known) but that man legit does not know that shes underaged, as stated in the latest few episodes as of this message aka after the 2nd race where Sawatari tells him shes actually younger because of her features and such. Aiba shouldnt be looked down upon here, unless in the manga he continues to chase the underaged girl lol. 2. I believe that Kanata isnt too interesting either but hes some sort of a normalish MC who is just a happy jolly guy but we see his determination begin to stir in the middle of the 2nd race, so theres potential for growth. I think some characters are well done not great but well done. They each have their own fears when it comss to racing and some are even shown their goals (Although its a racing series where logically everyone almost wants to be number 1 so theres also that in contrast to Initial D with various motives cause it isnt professional racing). Personally I cant wait to see how Keisukes student Senna will turn out, simply cause I love Keisukes character to this day. 3. The alst argument I have for Kanatas background and such is, Its better than having the illegal street races of today, cause then Shigeno would have to add an almost Need for Speedish type of story lol. I believe its actually sort of refreshing seeing how an already built up character with skills will do and you cant tell me that MFG has more plot armor than Initial D, cause youd be lying to yourself. Kanata doesnt get to be number 1 so easily, he has to compete with cars much much faster than him, and his lack of power in a 200hp GT86 is shown rather very well in the straighs, where Takumi would somehow still beat his opponents even if they were better than him (referring to God Hands defeat). And Kanata doesnt magically win his races so easily, its justifiable, since the Takumis extra drifting classes were NOT MANDATORY. He learned that based off of his own pure wants and will, so no, hes not the chosen one, he is just someone who put more effort into gaining additional skills. Also lets not forget he has experience in Formula 4 too. That being said I believe its still way more natural when characters with professional racing backgrounds are on the top, rather than a street manifested driver takes a spot without any prior professional guidance. Again, you can train something alone, but you will eventually hit a wall without professional help. ------------End of Characters-------- All in all this is still a subjective view and what I see in MF Ghost and theres not a definitive good or bad continuation, everyone has their tastes.

Okay, I partially agree with you, that MF Ghost is a bit meh. But I liked it. And I don't blame you for not liking it. Opinion is opinion. What are the advantages of MF Ghost in my opinion then? *Spoiler Alert* 1) Races. No shit, bro! Yep. The races are made very nice. The camera angles, the rivalry between godly 15, I love it. Examples? 1st season The qualifying round of Kanata, his race in the fog and the Kamaboko straight, where Kanata is being overtaken by "ghosts" of other drivers. You feel it that the car made a huge progress in gaining positions, but it just lacks horsepower to succeed. Kaito Akaba's drive is stunning. The way he overtook 7 cars is just wow. Kanata Katagiri vs Jackson Taylor. Their fight in the fog and in Kamaboko straight is amazing. 2nd season Kanata's rocking there. The way he overtakes everyone, and then goes after Akaba's Ferrari has held me in my chair with the feel of adrenaline. Kanata actually loses to him eventually, which I also liked, because this lucky bastard should have at least one loss to make the races more interesting. Shun Aiba's drive in Ashinoko GT is stunning. The way he was fighting, gaining position after position was shown very nicely. And what's more is, that you actually believe that, because Aiba's GTR is a capable car, and then the driver finally manages to use the full potential of the car. Interesting weather conditions. In the first season, there was a "death area" with the fog. The second season has a slippery section with volcanic ashes, heavy rain reduces the traction, and the fog appears again. And that is great. If the races are held only in a clear weather, it's a bit boring. But when there are extreme weather conditions, you understand that only talented drivers can succeed. The graphics. First season looks good(in races), but not great. You don't have that "wow" effect, but it doesn't annoy you. Second season looks amazing. The rain, the fog, the cars running in the harsh conditions, it looks fantastic. Cars. Yeah, I like European cars, and I really missed them in Initial D. It would be cool to watch rivalry between foreign and japanese cars in initial d, and MF Ghost gives that opportunity. Especially I liked Kaito Akaba's Ferrari 488 GTB, and Yudai Sakamoto's Audi R8 V10. Music. I don't know, I really enjoy the music in the anime. It's Eurobeat mixed with rock, and they make the races even more fun to watch. My favorite compositions from there: 1) Adrenaline 2) Go wild 3) Speed of Light 4) Hot hot racing car 5) Break out fire And I listen to them very often, especially when I do sports or have a race in Assetto Corsa (racing game with realistic physics). The drawbacks you have already mentioned, and I agree with you. First is the 17 complex. Really, what's wrong with having a 20 year old girl, instead of 17? Shigeno, WTF? Second. Characters. Kanata is boring, and Ren is annoying. The only thing I like about Ren is her appearance. She looks sexy, but when you start to know her better... The only characters that are worth mentioning there are Shun Aiba, Yashikita siblings, and Emma Greene. Third. Everyday life scenes in the anime. They are boring as the main hero. Forth. The motivation of the main hero. He came to find his dad. Okay. It was shown only a few times, then the main goal gets forgotten. In the third season he will eventually find the connections to his dad, but he will be already dead by the time he finds him. Kanata's upset, he's crying about this tragedy, and you don't give a F about this. Because the plot didn't develop this arc, you have literally no information, plus you don't have any interest to the main hero. That is a problem. When Takumi was dumped by his girlfriend and he blew his engine, you could feel that, because you believe in his love for the girl and his car. Again, it's my opinion. I would like to know your opinion about my review on it.

As far as the races themselves go, they're fine, which is why I didn't really talk about them in either of my mfg videos. I think what really needs to change is the context of the races and making them more meaningful to the characters and the story.

Keep the concept of mfg and the grip rules. Make Kanata a race adict, sim racing prodigy (irl based). Keep ogata as is but he has a past in mfg and a nasty wreck left him a bit handicapped so he can't drive but wants to run a team (f1 style). Ogata and kanata meet online, get close, meet in persoy, go for a spin in ogatas "old" 86 and the idea is born. Kanata takes the wheel and has the knowledge of the courses due to sim racing but has no irl experience and ogata is the seasoned driver - mechanic that is steering him. Keep the angels but cut there screentime a lot. Make Rin into a field journalist and build her relationship with Kanata from there. Sawatari is just fine, 17 is perfectly legal (in Greece at least) if there is consent and the dude is like 20 so what's the problem? Make races feel faster and don't last like 1 season = 1 race. Keep the old characters as they are with cameos from their pro career (kanata is a race addict so there is the chance for that) and bring them as speakers or in tv interviews. Takumi could be hosting "top gear" or something. And there you have it. A tale about a guy who wants to be "running in the 90s" but does it in modern day. Accompanied by a tale about a guy who wanted to reach the top but stood unlucky and he is now chasing the dream through an other person. As for Kanata's parents, they are totally irrelevant

They also tried to get more technical about everything with copious talk about tires but also spouting complete nonsense fuddlore half the time so it alienates the racing savvy people anyway. Then bro just decided to add half naked girls and has not done a single thing interesting or relevant with them just to appeal to gooners. All of that left no room for a story of any kind

The anime has AT LEAST fixed the horrendous artwork, but the common consensus is that it's still one of the worst animes this season and for good reason. I really don't give a fuck about how realistic the racing is at all, like AT ALL. what matters if I care about who is doing the racing and what will happen depending on who wins/how it ends. MF GHOST hasn't been able to do that for me and evidently a ton of other people, and that's why basically all my rewrite concerns is the story surrounding the races. I haven't really seen anyone defend the non-racing stuff of this series so I feel like it shouldn't be that controversial to suggest they should have done something else. You don't have to love my ideas, feel free to hate them, but I'd be interested to know if you care about Kanata searching for his dad or his relationship with Ren or literally anything that happens outside of the races.

I know the script is trash, but the racing scenes are even worse. I'm pretty sure there's no one single shot of cars on the screen for longer than 3 seconds, it's just poorly rendered cars flying by and cut to people talking.
