It's sort of a re-make of the hit by Carl Carlton in the 70s
@Defensewhiz2 жыл бұрын
@@hollyprincipato3287 actually Carl remade it also...this song has been covered so many times it's hard to keep count, but this is the only duet version that I can remember other than Rex and Marilyn McCoo sang it together when they both hosted Solid Gold

@@Defensewhiz Robert Knight did it originally in September 1967. The Love Affair took it to #1 in the UK in May 1968 (never released in the US as a single), David Ruffin in January 1969 (also never released as a single), Carl Carlton in 1974 (peaking at #6), this version in September 1981 (peaking at #31), Sandra (then Lauer, now Cretu) in 1987 that was a Top 5 hit in Europe (never released in the US), U2 in 1989 (as a B-side), World's Apart in 1993 (never released in the US) and Gloria Estefan in January 1995 (peaking at #30).

@@WaltGekko yes I knew most of them already especially Robert, the original singer, and then Love Affair as well as Carl and Gloria. Like I said it’s been covered about a million times, and yet I like this one by Rex and Rachel more than the original by Robert as well as love affair’s version because it being a longer duet while still being uptempo

Her problem was the massive changes in radio in New York when she was recording. New York at that time often still determined whether a song would become a hit even though there was no legit Top 40 station in New York from July 1981 (when WABC began softening their music format ahead of a flip to talk on May 10, 1982) and August 2, 1983 (when WHTZ-FM, Z-100 at 100.3 made its debut and shortly after WPLJ at 95.5 completed a slow flip from Rock to Top 40 over the spring and summer of 1983). This allowed such infamous song's as Sneaker's 1982 hit "More Than Just The Two of Us" to become a Top 40 hit (peaking at #34) and as I remember be a Top 3 hit in New York ALMOST ENTIRELY off excessive airplay on WNBC (known to have a program director known as "Kenny" in Howard Stern's 1995 autobiographical film, "Private Parts" who for some time had a VERY restrictive playlist which showed up on WNBC's year-end countdown for 1982 when it finished ahead of The Human League's "Don't You Want Me" that was a #1 song nationally). Even WAPP-FM (103.5) debuting in late June 1982 as a Top 40 station didn't stem this because it was not looked at as a legit Top 40 station and the closest otherwise was WYNY-FM (97.1), which really was adult contemporary (the stations famously after format flips switched positions on the dial in 1988). That is what hurt Rachel musically.

He’s did quite a bit on Broadway, too- grease, pirates of penzance with Linda ronstadt and Kevin Kline, sunset boulevard, scarlet pimpernel… He also did lots of tv like Jag, love boat, perry Mason, as the world turns. He had his own show night Hawk and took over solid gold after Andy gibb. He’s so talented; I never understood why he wasn’t as big as David Cassidy!

Much of Rachel Sweet's problem was bad timing: Her music got virtually NO airplay in New York, which often determined hits because of a major transition at the time as Disco stations dominated the ratings then. WABC (77 AM) the longtime Top 40 kingpin was softening its format in as last ditch effort to remain a music station before going talk on May 10, 1982. WNBC (66 AM) had a PD (see my other comment on this) that was very conservative and there was no true Top 40 station in NYC until August 1983.
