There is a theory saying that Skynet are planning to win in the long run. Sending the terminators back and making them the blueprint for Skynet means it builds itself and "remembers" its previous versions. As long as a T-800 gets sendt back Skynet will in the end be so strong it will win and breaks the cycle. Meaning Genisys might be its endgame
@tawdryhepburn46866 жыл бұрын
The black goat of the woods I’d tAke it a step further. Skynet realizes that each time loop results in the *same* John Connor, but an *improved* Skynet... eventually, in events that take place after Genisys, the humans catch on to skynet’s improvements and realize... JOHN CONNOR IS NOT THE SAVIOR! Rather, he is the reason that Skynet gets stronger. He is the uncaused-cause. The paradox. The problem. The big reveal is that SKYNET SENT POPS BACK to ensure it’s own advancement and the resistance- possibly without the Knowledge of John- sent back the T800/850/1000 et al. At the same time (heh) you have Sarah and Kyle jumping sideways through dimensions - some where the war is happening, some where it has been avoided - searching for John. See, at the end of Genysis, Evil John was sent through the time displacement device, which ripped out the robot bits and sent the flesh and blood man... somewhere. He’s lost in time ala Quantum Leap. ALSO at the same time, you have Evil John/Matt Smith in the future seen at the beginning of Genysis. After taking over John and killing the generals at the Time Displacement Device, Evil John returns to the human resistance headquarters and starts setting in motion the casual loops that we saw play out in the previous films. ... I really, really wish Terminator Genysis was a hit. I can see how the franchise plays out so clearly.

You might want to recalculate your math on John's birth--for a birthday of 02/28/85 would not be end of July of 84, but would in fact be May of 1984, just as her timecard showed--a fully developed baby takes about 36 weeks (9 months) and given a 05/19/84 date as her time card and a 02/28/85 of his birth, that is about accurate given time for copulation and gestation.

I think there is a ORIGINAL timeline. Where Sarah and probably that guy on the phone became Johns father. Just think about it there is ALWAYS a ORIGINAL timeline before the loop/Pardox starts happening.
@movietimelines7 жыл бұрын
there's certainly a lot of ways to interpret it, but i think the existence of the photograph shows that what are watching is the original timeline. the fact that kyle already has it in the future means that in the timeline before he traveled back, she was in the same spot to have the same photo taken. without the arrival of kyle and the t-800, there would be no reason for her to be driving alone through mexico. that and the fact that sarah never really talked about john's father indicated that she had something to hide about it. if it was just a guy she was seeing, she probably wouldn't have been secret about it. i think those things show that it's a linear timeline in which events only occur once, just out of order. think of it like reading a book where the last page is torn out and put about a quarter of the way in. when you read it, you'll know what happens before you reach the end, but you'll still have only read the book once.
@brucewaite37337 жыл бұрын
I get how the photo can preclude a predetermined time loop but i think somethings in a time traveling narrative are still going to happen based of factors that are still withstanding despite the influence of a time displaced outsider. Like, why did sarah head towards Mexico? Why did she take that route? As the audience, we don't really know alot of Sara's backstory. She could have had family or friends down there, and would have always gone thru that route.

i like to go along the lines of alternate time lines. the first movie starts with the original timeline, but the minute the terminator and kyle show up it alters the time line causing the creation of a new timeline, hence why judgment day is always being pushed back, the actions of the resistance and skynet keep creating these alternate time lines. if you have read stephen kings 11/22/63 then you know i'm borrowing from that. in the end the time stream started to become unstable and it had to be fixed and i'm kinda getting that from the terminator series. as arnold told john in t3 "judgment day is inevitable" just my take on this great and confusing series lol
@keshaponso20346 жыл бұрын
I have to totally disagree with the theory of the original timeline. The whole premise of The Terminator was that the sequence of events always happened, and was the way that it will always happen as it is a closed loop. This is what made is resonate so much with audiences when they figured out that all Skynet had to do was not send a Terminator back in time. Now I know that my frame of reference is seeing the original as a child before T2 came out. T2 added the concept of the possibility of being able to change the future which was not followed up by James Cameron in later installments. It's the same premise from Greek Tragedies where the hero attempts to foil a prophecy and in doing so creates actions that fulfills the prophecy. It is definitely a closed time loop as confirmed by James Cameron, and The Terminator is used as a classic example of a closed-time-loop or the predestination paradox (also dubbed the Terminator paradox) if you study philosophy, literature, film or writing.

The one thing that totally unravels the entire timeline is this one fact...in order for John to be born, Kyle must be there...but Kyle doesn't get sent back until he is older...but the thing is...there must be an original timeline...which means John would never have existed...because Kyle has to be sent back...but in the original timeline this can't happen...my brain hurts.

Terminator 2 says that John is 10. Terminator 3 and The Sarah Connor Chronicles say that John was 13 during the events of T2. Presumably, some time travel shenanigans happened in those timelines, resulting in the Connors being older than they were in the James Cameron films (since both the film and the show also contradict the information in the first two films that places Sarah's age as 19 in T1 and 29 in T2).

A couple of things I've always assumed about the terminator timeline is 1) Skynet devotes part of its energies and resources sending its agents throughout the timeline to ensure that certain events happen to lead to its rise, 2) Each time skynet is defeated in the past it, it causes a delay that leads to it having access to better technology.
@HeShoeTooBig7 жыл бұрын
I like to imagine that the time line is linear but things always change to varying degrees because of when Sarah conceives John with Reese. During conception, millions of sperm try to get into the egg. So when you alter timelines, you change the time of conception and therefore you change who is born. They get the same name, but they are entirely different people. So every john we see is a different person and are technically brothers. What would be interesting is one of the "Johns" were born as a girl. Joan Conner maybe? Either way, with ever new John, the events are continuously changed. The movie timeline keeps moving forward. nothing gets erased or re-done sort of. It all happened in orderfor these new Johns to keep appearing until we end up with evil robot John thus causing Reese to end up living and changing the the time of conception for John dramatically. So Johns birthday, judgement day, etc etc could change in each timeline. There is no closed loop, it loops and then keeps moving forward. So there could be hundreds of "open loops". There's no reboot or alternate timelines. it's all one big continuous loop where things are constantly changing because there's always a new John making slightly different choices, thus creating a ripple effect of different choices. this causes Skynet to make different choices and so the resistance makes different choices, which causes Skynet to be different again, and it goes on and on forever until one side eventually wins. The problem though is that the characters don't get to witness these timelines and learn anything. I think the TV show touches on this.

Here is something that makes very little sense and something that always bothered me, if the events of most of the films are part of a constant unavoidable loop in time (as people assume by the fact that Kyle Reese had a photo of Sarah in 2029 identical to the end of T1 in the alternated timeline), then why would Sarah after being informed by Kyle still think Judgment Day occurs in 1997 in T2 if it was always postponed to a different year? If Judgment Day occurred in 1997, then there's absolutely no way Kyle Reese was always John's father, but became his father in the new timeline alternating history and thus leading to the events of T2 where Judgment Day in 1997 was prevented, or according to T3: Rise of the Machines "postponed". There had to be a time where John & Sarah at one point wouldn't of had prior knowledge of Terminators and Judgment Day either, otherwise Judgment Day '97 would've been prevented in the original timeline as well. As much as I love Terminator it has some of the most migraine inducing logic out of any film series.
@raymondhartmeijer93002 жыл бұрын
You're talking about Sarah's narration? I think that is suppose to be a memoir of some kind, looking back at the timeframe of the movie, when in that situation Judgment Day was suppose to be happening in 1997. But now Sarah believes they have stopped the war altogether. So she is just looking back at a time when that date was important, but not anymore. The visions of Kyle that Sarah has are there bc at that moment, no new Terminators have arrived in the present, they did not yet blow up Cyberdyne. The timeline only changes after those events. So Kyle was correct if Sarah would remain imprisoned in the institution

yes, Kyle says in T1 that their team blew up the place, but since Kyle's arrival in the past changed the timeline, we don't really know what happened. The strenght of the Resistance and of Skynet might be a lot bigger, there could be more than one time-travel machine. Once the Resistance found out the plans with the (new) T-1000, they send one of their reprogrammed T-800's. Kyle could not have known this

Minor contribution: the 'only-living tissue can pass' sounds silly and arbitrary, in-universe and out-universe. The thing is, that info comes from Kyle, who admits to the police in the first movie that the resistance doesn't really know how the time machine works. Watching the story we know that non-living tissue can travel in time: the endoeskeleton of the arni-nators does pass, and also the t1000, with no living tissue at all, also does pass. But we also see that all 'nators travels naked, and there will be a reason for that. My explanation is that there are limitations on the time machine, but it's not a living or dead tissue issue. The time machine needs to scan the subject (object?) very precisely in order to know what is sending back in time. Clothes and equipment, not attached to the main body, complicate too much the calculations needed, so clothes, weapons, or anything that is not part of a continuous single body aren't allowed. Members of the resistance saw the naked sending of the first 'nator, and came with the erroneous 'living-tissue' explanation.

Watch the first two movies, and then pick your own timeline from there: 1. T3 and T4 2. TV show 3. T5 4. Each one is completely independent of the others, though the TV show mentions the cancer that killed Sarah in the T3 timeline (so the show may be set in a universe that directly results from time travelers altering the T3-T4 universe).

Why are people so confused about the Terminator timeline? It's pretty straightforward and told linearly from movie 1 -5 (haven't seen dark fate yet). The only 2 things that you have to keep in mind for everything to make sense is that original JC's dad, from Earth 0, is a complete rando and the movies take place in Earth 1 and 2, because when you travel in time, you also travel in space. We don't know what happens to the world or JC or Skynet on Earth 0. We assume humans win, given that Skynet's time machine was a last desperate attempt to win the war, but the timeline they're changing is Earth's 1, not their own (after sending T800 to LA 1984). Edward Furlong, the dude from T3, Christian Bale and the other dude from Genisys are playing the same John Connor on Earth 1. That timeline ends in 2029, when JC gets infected and turned into a machin. Humans lose the war and fearing that Kyle change the outcome of that war, JC goes after him to Earth 2. Jai Courtney, aka Kyle Reese from Earth 1, then on Earth 2 kills JC and Skynet and that's it. The end. Kyle and Sarah are free to chose their own destiny without having to worry about the war. This doesn't affect the bullshit that Schwarzenegger tries to explain in Genisys about Kyle being in the nexus of time and that's how he can remember 2 timelines or some shit like that. The only thing that I can't explain is who tf sent him to Sarah in 1979 in Genisys. My best guess is John from Earth 1. This is how it makes sense to me ;)
@raymondhartmeijer93002 жыл бұрын
T1 is indeed not the original history, but also not the first replacement timeline. This we know bc Kyle has the picture from Sarah. This can only happen if that Kyle lives in a universe where he already was JC's father. The picture (taken in Mexico?) only can happen after Sarah goes in exile after the events from T1. There has to be a timeline in between the original and the movie where Kyle goes to 1984 and doesn't know what Sarah looks like
@Bestialce20072 жыл бұрын

I'll be back is phrase #2, Get out is phrase #3. Sarah's boyfriend in the first film was Stan Morsky, the guy with a black Porsche. A co-worker, USC film student with a producer father, Stan blew Sarah off on Friday night for reasons unknown. That Porsche had a sun roof, btw. Stan is described in William Wisher and Randall Frakes' official 1985 novel adaptation as a cross between Tom Cruise and Pee Wee Herman. Sooo... Scott Bakula? Voiced on screen, btw, byyy-... James Cameron. He was likely the father of John. He may have cheated on her, prompting her to eventually hook up with Gant, the Green Beret reffed by John in T-2. Original John is Stan's son, Gant taught Sarah and John guerilla warfare. Kyle, born around 2001-2002, commanded first by Perry, was seconded to John in 2027, or so. John liked his skills, pluck, and personality, knew he'd be the best choice to defend Sarah, then sent him back. Then things changed. There were two time travels before the film took place, making Reese the father from the second time on. Every successive John looks different due to being a parrallel universe. For instance, only Nick Stahl is shown as the same actor as 20s and middle-aged John. Also, Kyle wasn't told because time was rewritten every time Kyle went back and saved Sarah, plus the T-1000 was covered in the same vat-grown flesh as the T-800, so it could travel back. Once it arrived, it disposed of it, or it was burned off. In the second novel of Terminator- the first novel written by English author Shaun Hutson and published concurrent with the movie- Wisher and Frakes' 1985 novel described Reese being slathered with a conducting jelly, to help with the travel. The machines likely had it too, in order to keep their flesh unscathed. Note how the arrivals differ between films: in T-1, Arnold's feet are flush with the ground. In T-2 and 3, the ground is dug out in the shape of a bubble. Things changed. Improvements?

I am planning on doing the screenplay for the next terminator this time it’s going to be about pops prime also known as Carl going through the linear timeline and cracking it and also having flashbacks of him and John Connor before the events of the death of John Connor in terminator dark fate and it is one of the best ones that we do have and I was the only person that was in the theaters watching that movie and you left down out and I know you’re a fan of it and I know you do not get the future war as was expected and I will be the one to do that so I hope that you redo this one including worth Terminator dark fate taking place imagine my movie and where that’s going to be because that one is going to either be in between terminator salvation or between Terminator Genisys and a terminator dark fate he want some answers about this here is the best yes I can give you is this That we do need the future war and I want to be the one to give that one so I’m going to do his name is terminator no feet then do the screenplay and Hannah on over to Arnold Schwarzenegger I don’t wear this time he will not be protecting John Connor or protecting anybody in general at this point so this time he’s going through the future and past and present day and time so I hope this gives you some answers about that because mine is not going to have Arenanator and show him as the person before he was with the resistance band Skynet set a circle order for the films it’s going to take place at this time if I am reading this right then it would have to go all out like this Genesis Skynet Legion Terminator the movie Terminator 2 judgment day Terminator 3 rise of the machines Terminator 4 salvation Terminator 5 future war Terminator 6 Genesis Terminator 7 dark fate So if I’m reading this right then John Connor dies in the new future just ago what was said but for the past future of John Connor‘s dies his hand as the T8 50 model killed John Connor after defeating the original war so vain both of us has shown the world how does the timeline of these movies can go but as for the Terminator Genisys I don’t think it’s really a reboot or anything like that I think that one actually is this retelling the story when you’re up to the events of Terminator dark fate that’s what I’m thinking here so the best way to explain that is to redo this video and by doing it again when my movies come out doesn’t my movies mean the film down think about doing and do a screen writing of terminator future war that’s what I’m going to give to the world you can update this one by redoing it so you love that one out on purpose I did is go back to the basics pretty much so that is what I’m going to do is go back to the basics and show the future war in a way it should be told so other than net Josh I hope that you redo this one and show the world that I’m going to give the future how is it in between terminator salvation and Genesis so other than that Josh I hope that you redo this video because we get to the movies that is out but one is he has a calm and I am going to be the one to write out the the future war film that was supposed to be out in the first place and I don’t think that was gonna be released at all but the best way to do that is to have me to ride the future war film and that’s gonna be at the end of it where terminator T 50 model becomes pops then become Pops prime also known as Carl all will be revealed my body And you do have a very beautiful family

Awesome you went there! Speaking of going there, have you ever gone to the Terminator 3D Ride? It's sweet as fuck! I had no idea about the alternative ending in Salvation. I know a lot of people hated it but I liked it, especially seeing older and clunkier models of the T600 or whatever the one was called with the minigun.
@movietimelines6 жыл бұрын
yeah, i used to work up at universal, so i got to go to T2-3D a few times before they shut it down. my line in my video where i say that it was "super" was a joke about the ride, because before you watched the movie, a live action cyberdyne employee would come out and talk to you, and she would always that everything was super. It was a pretty cool attraction, but it was definitely a bit dated at the end there.

Hang on hang on. 1 saying the computers should have calculated success rates and such is a little unfair as the film was made in 1984 per internet and when computers were the sizes of family cars. All future tech is pure speculation and fantasy so it’s not reasonable to apply modern knowledge to past failures to accurately predict technological developments. Secondly and more importantly babies take 9 months to appear from conception to birth. If John was conceived in May then the February birth date is spot on.

You forgot to add terminator the Sara Conner chronicles!
@movietimelines6 жыл бұрын
i talk about it at the 17:00 mark. i usually mention but don't include tv entries of a series, unless they're integral to the film series' continuity. that being said, i enjoyed the hell out of that show.
@jeffreyscarbroughboardgame28226 жыл бұрын
Movie Timelines well then you can't completely give the proper timelines if you don't include everything in the series including the comics and the t.v. shows

3:53 a child is born 40 weeks after conception. If John is born on 2/28/1985 then it would place the events of the first Terminator on the week of May 19 1985 not toward the end of July as you had stated

Sarah Connor Chronicles should've been included in this. And if they do RoboCop, they should also include RoboCop: The Series.
@movietimelines7 жыл бұрын
when i first came up with the concept of the series, i decided to only utilize film installments of a series, unless a television series was considered canon to the film. it's always tempting to delve into the tv shows, and comics, and other media that a lot of these franchises spill into, but i chose to focus on the films only. sarah connor chronicles was a damn good show, though.

after dark fate, most people probably wished for genisys 2 😆 i for my part enjoy the arnie terminators except dark fate of course. the series transformed from horror, into comedy, after T2, nothing else was possible.

Dude you’re totally wrong about there being an error in John’s birth date. Ask your wife if you’re not sure about length of pregnancy

One comment. Bit philosophical. You don’t have to be a genius to have intelligence. You just have to have enough intelligence to know you exist and the screw up trying to perpetuate that. So every plot loophole can be explained by the machines being clever but … not THAT clever

I prefer the idea that time is immutable and that the actions of a time traveler aren't supposed to alter the timeline but actually fulfill it. The sequels obviously don't agree. In my head, the continuous time travel "broke time", and that's why it got all wonky.
@movietimelines7 жыл бұрын
i really feel like that the immutable timeline was the direction that the first film was going in, and t2 can still kinda fit that description if you go with the idea that they didn't alter the future by destroying the chip.

Well if metal can't travel thru time how can Arny, in the first film travel....this is a big plothole!!
@movietimelines5 жыл бұрын
they cover it in the film. as long as the metal is covered by organic matter, it can go back, which is why arnie was covered in actual flesh and blood.
