Sci-Fi Timelines Episode 12 : Robocop

I saw the old one recently on a whim because I won a VHS copy of it in a nerd trivia contest. I was astounded at how well it holds up. The stop motion is ropy now and dates it but the rest is just as fresh as it ever was. It really cuts to the chase. Miramax logo, Detroit skyline, ROBOCOP logo, and now we're in the cop station. Just POW right in. No long opening credits or anything.

I don't remember if it was in the movie or a deleted scene but there was an explanation for the hand in the remake. Something about if NewRobo had to touch someone, like a handshake or something, it would be more comforting and less likely to freak someone out.

The first RoboCop movie was filmed in my home state of Texas. Plus there is a Robocop vs Terminator video game that came out for Sega Genesis.

I think 1 of the best scenes with a stellar line is near the start of the 1st Robocop. When they're in the conference room to unveil the Ed 209, & it goes bizerk & ends up killing one of the guys. It seriously just blows the dude away with dozens of gunshots, & when it's done, 1 of the guys says to call an ambulance. It's just funny to me because he's clearly waaaay past needing ambulance. This is 1 of the great themes that is presented in the film, & just does a great job of poking fun at the utter over the top, gluttonous, over indulgence of the 80's. Even the scene when they kill Murphy, it's so ridiculous in the length & amount of shots fired by those goons. All the media clips as well with commercials for the Nuke em' kids game, or the 4000 spf sunscreen, just makes it.

Although the sequels weren’t as good as the original, at least they were fun to watch. I found the remake to be really boring. Also, I’m sure it will be coming out when the new movie does, looking forward to a Jurassic Park timeline.
