Vintage broken switchblade knife restoration and customization. I think is German Stiletto. This switchblade knife was broken and I decided to restore it. I don't know how old this knife is. I removed the rust and made a new handle from deer antler. I hope you liked my restoration.

@@terrym3837 the uk is a joke. perfect example of banning things not working. but what do they do? they dont give people back their freedoms after realizing it doesn’t work, no, they ban more and waste more tax money frisking random people. the police there is super proud if they find some screwdrivers and shit on people and lock them up for deadly weapon offenses and none of them thinks for once about how its completely normal for people to not wanna get stabbed and be able to defend themselves. absolutely idiotic. the UK needs a regime change.

Great job! I can't help but notice the viewers who say they are not allowed a switchblade in their state. One of you mentioned Texas. These bans are being lifted all the time. Here in Pennsylvania we are now allowed to carry. Check your law again in Texas as they were supposed to be legal as of 2013. Some states have lifted the ban with some rules as to blade lengths, etc. Google your state to find out.

You do very fine work Sir, I have been buying and restoring old knives since becoming disabled to keep myself busy and I have always bought and fixed my own❤ knives . However I have a knife that I have absolutely no working knowledge of the actual mechanics of and need either someone to educate me or if possible fix the firing mechanism . It's an old leverlock automatic, any help you can give me would be much appreciated when 😊

Age of knife. . . made after 1975 , , , the short blade is because of German import laws banning blade size ratios of length vs width. . . outlawing long slim blades. . .also the kick spring has attributes shared with 1980's kit knives. . . .So I'd Estimate age between 1975 and 1985 . . . .Nice repolishing . . . .hand work instead of power tooling it to death.

Nice restoration! Looks great! Never saw one with a button like that. And why were the front and back scales before you the put the new ones on different? Did somebody try rescaling this at one point and they only got around to doing one for the front scale? The stag looks nice! Kind of a missed opportunity to fix the peaking of the blade when the knife is closed. Maybe it needed a new spring or perhaps the seer hole needed re-drilled and the seer mechanism needed laser welded? I’m not too familiar with how to fix that on stilettos. I usually leave that to professionals. Come to think of it, that button might have been a replacement for an older button that broke and that might explain why there was no safety and a front handle scale different from the back. Perhaps that could explain the peaking.

That was really great work on restoring that vintage knife . I’m sure that when I go ahead and try to restore some of mine it is unlikely to come out like yours but it will still look so much better than they look now. I only have one question that I’d be happy to hear your answer to. Why weren’t you able to get the blade to close properly, the blade still isn’t closing all the way. I own a few that have that same issue and I had hoped that you were going to fix that issue as that bothers me the most about some of my knives. Great info on restoring the knife and thanks for sharing.

What you ended up with looked way better than what that knife looked like when it was new. Nice work! Also, the dovetailed kick spring was usually only used on better quality knives. You got a keeper there! One little niggle, however. Usually "Vintage" is used when referring to a pre 1960'a stiletto that didn't have the swivel or bolster release mechanism like this one has. On those older models, one simply used his thumb nail to lift or pick the lock tab up off the blade pin which was why they were called picklocks.

This is an inexpensive switchblade from Taiwan. It's been sharpened so much that the edge is exposed when closed. Filling and redrilling the hole in the blade could make it close fully. The button cover and lock are missing, because someone did a perfunctory restoration (thus the red scale).
