A pretty cool detail about rey dau I don't see many people talk about is that the heat generated from his lighting is what causes the blue crystal formations on his wings and tail from dragging them in the sand, an even better example of this is his big rail gun attack if done in areas with a lot of sand (like the dunes area) will create pillars of the blue glassy crystal.

To be completely honest, due to the renders that were available, the blue tones on the wings and tail just looked like colour variation inherent to the monster, not an outside substance. Thank you for bringing it up! I genuinely would have never seen it

I wasn’t sold on Rey Dau at first, truth be told, but I was immediately impressed with him after tangoing with the Wyvern in the middle of the thunder storm. The atmosphere and theme are absolutely made to be in synergy together, and it was incredibly immersive despite just being an expedition. Just the way his wings light up and the visual of his horns twisting into a rail gun is the absolute coolest. Not enough to make him an immediate favorite monster of mine, but it feels too early to make that a call like that. Better to wait till the offical release.

Jokes aside about Josh being "miles" away, I actually had this exact situation happen to me right before I slayed Rey Dau. He did that exact move and I was directly under his stomach at the time and I took no damage and killed him 2 seconds later. The main difference is that I was in the nest area, and not on an angled dune, so maybe that's why I lived and Josh didn't.

Figured i'll wait for the proper fight if that's gonna be the result.

After hitting a wound with the focus attack, you can go straight into another TCS. If there's a few wounds on the monster, you can loop this since following TCS, you can do the focus attack faster than you can roll away. True Charge, Perforate, True Charge, Perforate . . . when your focus attack misses a wound, go into your offset charge instead

You can use your slinger with a weapon drawn, so there's no need to sheathe to flash flying monsters. When holding L2/focus button, L3/left stick click fires your slinger pods

An appreciable detail; Rey Dau can be briefly tripped if it falls into the Balahara's sandtraps, but as you'd figure from the big boss, it can easily pull itself free then be on its way. More so its interactions with the lesser monsters, like Deviljho it's essentially engineered to lay them out with its strongest attack. A useful tool for hunters going after low tiers, baiting them into earning Rey's ire. Looking forward to see what happens when Rey Dau inevitably meets Rathalos, another top dog in the food chain. Will the weathers determine who wins, or otherwise an even match-up between the flyers?

I’ve always said the seregios was my favorite monster, I’m genuinely starting to reconsider now that I’ve fought Rey Dau I should probably add that I was running the beta on a computer with a GTX 1060 at the lowest settings and was still under 30 fps consistently, and even that didn’t ruin how cool Rey Dau is.

Just as an info for everyone: There is an airial focus attack with the great sword, that has a unique animation. Just jump of a ledge while holding the sword and hit a wound with your focus attack.

Funny enough Ray dau was the first monster I fought in free roam. Storm rolled in quickly so I went on the hunt. Sadly it got away since it wasn't tethered by a quest. Tough customer.

Even if you tether him by a quest he will leave on a timer and if there is less than 50 minutes before he does the quest time will reflect that in the max time I’ve had one that only allowed 15 minutes to kill.

Played the beta,explored, beat all the monsters in the demo and i cant wait for feb. Altough i did play through the story and made my character at the lowest possible graphic settings as that was the default for some reason, it was an easy fix tho just go into graphic settings. There were some choppiness at home base where all the players in the lobby where but it dissappeared as soon as i went outside the home base. Overall i think its gonna be my goty of 2025.

I still love how it took me and my friends 2 tries to beat this thing. we tried it with a party of three and got destroyed. Our third guy had to leave and waited for it to respawn and hunted it as a party of two and a rando joined us my hunt and we managed to take it down as 2 Bows (My friend and the rando) and an Insect Glaive (me) it was an exciting fight. Kinda wish it gave us a neat little reward for it but just the fact that we beat it felt plenty.

It looks like monsters are going to have 'weak points' that will react similar to wounds but they won't actually be wounds. You can see Rey Dau's face light up red at 6:35 and you can focus strike him there.
