Cuban Media - Capitalism Vs Socialism
Barbara Walters interviews Fidel Castro from Havana, Cuba -- 25 years after her first interview with the Cuban leader. Her original interview made a little history because people got their first real look at the man. Although Castro is known for very long speeches, he rarely does interviews.
Fidel Castro, 76 at the time of this interview, has outlasted nine US presidents. He's on his tenth. His rule continues to inspire both fear and devotion. He tells Barbara Walters that Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev lied to both President John F. Kennedy and Cuba, heightening the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Why does the US feel the need to tell other counties how to live and govern one and other when the US itself is in utter tatters? It's a real shame and actually quite embarrassing.

Fred J3 Venezuela is not communist, it is capitalist. It never had a revolution like real communist countries did, such as China, Cuba or Vietnam. And if capitalism is so wonderful, then why are Ethiopia, India, Democratic Republic of Congo, Brazil, Bolivia and most of the rest of the third world, so mesed up?
@atrus3416
@atrus3416 6 жыл бұрын
I'm none of the ones you mentioned, you forgot a lot of other options. So you say that college kids support communism? Then you acknowledge that the smart ones are the ones on communism's side. And you also acknowledge that capitalism generates poverty, according to the coment on your second option. BTW, have you ever been to Bolivia? I have, and you are wrong, it is totally capitalist. I even ate at a Burger King in downtown La Paz.

Fred J3 And you didn't answer my previous question.
@atrus3416
@atrus3416 6 жыл бұрын
I also asked if you have been to Bolivia and you also didn't answered that question, I can asume you have never been there to know what kind of country it is. What makes you think that you know Bolivia better than someone who has been there? And don't pretend you didn't read this question, I'll ask again if your don't answer. And Brazil has always been capitalist since it's creation, it never had any revolution nor was the constitution modified by any socialist government, and I know that because it is another country I know personally. Have you ever been to Brazil? You seem to be one of those capitalists who are in so much denial that your system doesn't work that you just try to convince yourselves that the poorest capitalist contries (like Bolivia, Ethiopia, India, etc.) are socialist. No, that's not my story, quite the contrary, I wasn't rich, but I wasn't as poor as my collegues were so I had to pretend I was poor to fit in, I don't agree with people being separated by classes as capitalism does.

Babara cannot understand what this man is saying. I dont know much about him and do not agree with the little i have heard. I will admit that he seems to have more common sense than MANY in the west. I have come to learn that MANY who are deemed Tyrants are only labels such because they are a threat to the western. He is basically saying stop talking to me like you are talking to a person who rules a democracy. If there are not protests how do you know they are not allowed? When people protest here they are gassed and beaten. SO! What is her point? We dont allow it either. WE are just more subtle at times in how we oppress the freedom of press and speech. If freedom of speech has limits then it is NOT freedom of speech!

It's easy to take shots at the US, but take a step back and look at the situation. Millions of Cubans are fleeing Cuba because it lacks the most basic of necessities. Millions of Cubans show up on the shores of Florida seeking refuge and a better way of life. Millions. And people expect no dialogue on the subject? People have the audacity to criticize Americans for promoting free speech and democracy, when millions upon millions of people make the heartbreaking decision to flee their countries of birth and leave their families behind and travel to the US to provide their children with a decent shot at life? Believe it or not, Cubans do not like their government but they are so controlled and powerless that they feel trapped and think that their only option is to flee. Look up the pitiful rafts that people fling to on the open sea and then come talk to me about the merits of Socialism in Cuba.

You know, people who've met Fidel would say he's a great guy. One Christmas eve, his flight had to stop in my sister's town, going between Russia and Cuba. They say he was very friendly, he actually went sledding with the local kids (he fell and his bodyguards got pissed) and he even personally helped shovel out a woman's car at night. Google "gander christmas eve fidel castro" to see the article, goto the one from "ganderbeacon" to see the article.

When a business loses capital as did many American firms in 1960 Cuba, that translates to a net loss of capital that might have otherwise gone towards investment, expansion and worker's salaries. That is to say, a company's loss in one place means workers are going to lose their jobs somewhere else. When businesses lose money, they cut workers or stop hiring. Fewer workers means less taxes paid. Fidel stole from American corporations billions in 1960. The US slipped into a recession in 1960.

We'll have to agree to disagree. re: free medical services in Cuba The Castros offer free medical services to the population on a limited basis. They can afford to do this because they own the doctors and the facilities. But it's not like Cubans can simply walk into any hospital or clinic at any time and have any procedure performed. Shortages of over-the-counter products also means that many minor health issues often become more serious.

The Cuban people are not suffering because of Fidel Castro, they are suffering because of an unjust and inhumane embargo on their island by the American Government for the past several decades. Cuba is a beautiful island with beautiful people. Walking in Havana, you are greeted with smiling faces and AMAZING hospitality. People in Cuba invite you into their homes and offer you what little they have. But even though they are poor, they are happy.

My brother-in-law won a full scholarship to Brown University and graduated from Brown in 2003. He was then awarded a fellowship to continue his studies at USC where he attended to complete his PhD. So I suppose you would rather tell others not to work hard in school and not to achieve anything? What kind of message is that? I say work hard, study, do well in school (schooling is FREE in America throughout the 12th grade) and you can achieve ANYTHING and go to ANY school of your choosing!

Sometimes people want to say "Well, people would rather live in the U.S. than Cuba. U.S. is capitalist, Cuba is socialist, therefor capitalism must be the best." The flaw there is that comparing the U.S. and Cuba is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. A better comparison might be Cuba and Haiti - they are roughly the same sizes, with the same type of resources, and similair histories. Now - which country would YOU rather live in?
