u should try to win a losing position then (or even a drawn position!)

It doesn't have anything to do with that. When you're winning the opponent will be invigorated to try harder to "save" the game. Also psychologically you still can't relax because that loses won games.

Great game from Aman and he got his GM norm. Just one more norm required for the title.

Its an open tournament so Swiss system, meaning that the pairings are randomly generated, but basically he has to have a performance rating of 2600+ .... do the math... got to have a +1 score against the average 2500 - 2600 GM, must win against sub-2400 players, its tough

@andrewryan5876
@andrewryan5876 7 жыл бұрын
he had over 2500 at one point, you dont need to always have it over 2500 but just pass it once to get a norm

I don't know why players keep doing that, but it is a HUGE mistake to run your clock down like that. Essentially what you are doing is buying an advantage now (a slightly better next move) for a price that is way to high in the future - i.e. much worse moves until the time control after that.

There are critical moments where if you calculate the line correctly you can blitz out several moves and gain tons of time on increment.

RandomWords You don't play OTB much do you huh, so you think you're opinion is better than a once top 5 player?
@R4ndomWords
@R4ndomWords 7 жыл бұрын
Just because I am not an expert chess player (although I have considerable OTB experience) does not make me wrong about everything connected to the game. In the fields connected to the very question we are discussing (psychology, economics and mathematics) I have considerable knowledge. I also have the luxury of looking at games with a very strong engine. This gives me the possibility to estimate the gain in move quality in dependence of time spent. After a couple minutes you can see strongly diminishing returns so overall the temporal discounting rate even for a lot of professional players is often too high. This game is a typical example of that, so I commentd on it here.
