To me the Singapore ERP system works the best with the Integrated Unit in car. You can use it not just for toll fee but also parking and even residences access. This system never failed despite their MRT keep failing for some reason. Yes, it is much more costly and need to use with a card but I prefer it this way as whoever is driving your car can slot in their own card for payment.

actually, the current system can work together no problem, even with the smarttag or similar rfid device. the only issue with current touch n go system is that it's soo outdated and everything totally depends on the card. if they can upgrade their infra(new cards) and unite it under one account(the ewallet TnG), there's no limit to what TnG can do. Imagine Paywave/PayPass compatible TnG prepaid card(like BigPay), linked to each of your cars, you can use it for parking passes, public transport passes, everything all in one account.

ERP SG is something like a active rfid (with IU + battery), SmartTagrfID are passive rfid (no battery no IU)... with active rfid u dont worry of radio interference & works most of the time as iu boost transmission signal & u can affix anywhere in your car, costly la of cause; While smarttagrfid use nothing but a radio sensing, range, radio freq in car(in/out) may affect receiving signal... thus must affix at proper location... cheap la of cause..! However the use of cashcard,visapay,paywave/cardless pymt are not a factor for smarttagrfid as you can implement the cardless/epayment/ewallet system for both active/passive collection system,...

If a credit card is linked via EZ-Pay to the vehicle, you don't even need to insert a CashCard into the Integrated Unit (IU). Any ERP fee is auto charged to the linked credit card. No need to worry of insufficient amount or the hassle of having to top up the CashCard, or penalty for not inserting the CashCard.

During my degree when I am writing my thesis, RFID is my main topic to discuss to installed in airport/airline baggage handling system to preventing stealing and to tracking down missing bags in airports. I think that the MyRFID for tolls is using a passive tag where it only triggered when you go into the sensors and within short distance only, while for the active RFID tags, it must be powered by some battery cell and it can detect your location based on how far the radio waves capable to capture your tags. The best RFID sensors can detect your RFID tags is as far as 500 meters to 800 meters. During my thesis, I recommended active RFID tags to be tagged into bags and luggage and passive RFID tags to be tagged into passengers. Besides that, these RFID tags is actually cheap and they are reusable again and again until it lunyai habis.

If it cannot read the ID more than 40kmh even after beta then there’s no point converting from a smart tag. I never had any trouble doing 30kmh in a smart tag lane. You just had to know when to change battery. The device freakin beeps when it’s low on battery. Please do better Touch n Go! Ps: GC your malay is really good lol

The solution for the stolen tag in parking, use the phone nfc tag at the exit since the tag is linked to the tng app. Well given if there is internet connection tho in the parking area.

Thanks for your effort bro GC Mah, for driving around just to show us how RFID works. I would like to agree that the barrier should move back abit for a smoother drive through. Or else, it is just similar with smart tag without a device. Which i say is not worth it. When that's done, then i guess there's only a few problems left. 1) We should know how people in Malaysia are. There's always mischievous group of people especially kids, with nothing better to do around us. If the authority do not find a solution to make the RFID sticker able to place in the car instead of the current outside only solution, I am afraid we the users are at high risk of the sticker being peeled off or scratched etc. That will definitely cause us big inconvenience. 2) I think we also like to know if the authority provides any back up plan, should the current RFID SUDDENLY fail to perform its job? Ofcourse, they can't expect consumers to always make a trip to and fro to their centre to get it fix or replace instantly if not frequently. 3) I also wonder how strong the sticker is and if there is any sensitive cons about it, lets say the sticker gets dirty along the way making the RFID scanner hard to scan the code etc: Lastly to my personal opinion, if the authority still can't make a better way like those ERP's system in Singapore. Maybe instead of this sticker, why not try to make a system where we can just use an app in our smartphones to get through the tolls. Something like Touch N Go current E-Wallet, but just add another function where we can also use it as a reader to get through the tolls. Nowadays smartphones technology is very advance, i am sure the authority can find a way to add in this feature and make it works. Again, maybe..that app in our smartphones can also act as a back up to that current poor RFID sticker should anything happens. Just to share, i am using the latest version of the Smart Tag and i just placed my device in the centre just right behind my steering on a secure non slip pad. So far i have no problem getting through the gantry nor has it caused me any incovenience. So if no improvements make on the RFID later, i guess my Smart Tag is much better.. I also came to know that, if you're using the RFID, it is compulsory to maintain a distance with the car ahead.. or you'll be at risk of paying twice! and that goes to say, in such occasion we still need to slow down even more. Sorry if anyone here do not agree with my personal opinion and suggestions. Thanks

Rather than they push the barrier forward which requires the relocation of the mechanism for the barrier.. Might as well the place the RFID sensor further back before approaching the booth.. Nonetheless, to reduce speed from 30km/h to 20km/h so that the RFID reader can capture the frequency is still slow..

As each RFID tag is tied to our eWallet account, should RFID not be able to be used due to a fault in their reader or some idiot removes the sticker for fun (vandalism), an alternative that TnG can consider is to place QR code readers (like a TnG card reader), we launch our TnG eWallet app on our phone, tap on the ‘Pay’ function and then let the reader scan our code for the payment. Same should apply for parking if one day parking lots deploy this RFID by TnG. So example we can enter with RFID tag and exit with our eWallet phone app. I believe this should solve any issues or concern that the RFID sticker goes missing or unable to be used for whatever reasons.

What if it is a borrowed vehicle? Obviously the driver would not have the TnG eWallet app, what is the solution then?

Joshua Cheong Tricky but perhaps they could come out with a feature in the app that allows RFID to be temporarily tied to another TnG eWallet for a certain amount of time set by the owner of it, and fees to be deducted from this eWallet instead of the owner’s. This could also help out car rental providers where the borrower will need a TnG eWallet and the provider can temporarily tie it to the borrower’s wallet.

I still dun understand what is the big difference between this and smart tag? I think smart tag is still better cos can use between different cars as in not tag to the car.... with the process still with the gantry and have to slow down to wait for it to open it would still be slow to pass.....

Smart Tag uses one of the oldest form of NFC which is limited in range. That's why they need Smart Tag to make it work with long range sensors. RFID is actually an OLDER technology. But by itself can work in longer range sensors. I know. It's Touch N Go company. What do you expect from them? Intelligence?

Guess the point is also how nice if we can just zoom pass the toll without slowing until 20-25kmh for the gantry to open...tat would really reduce the congestion during peak hrs....if Singapore ERP can do it, it could also apply here too....Guess the technology used may not have catered to such speed....

Here in Manila we already converted from smart tags to rfid last 2015. And currently integrating the rfids on the 2 largest expressways here(different providers). We also use 2kinds of stickers one outside(on headlight) and one inside top middle of windshield behind rear view mirror. Mine is installed inside(on top of 3m medium black tint). Works 90% of the time. Some people say rfid is not good when you have ceramic tints. Regarding the speed on the booth. I am used to 20kph below. As you have to pay Php2000 when you break the bar(metal). To be able to be detected better/faster/earlier, "internet" said the detectors on the booth toll gate should be bigger or stronger. Tip for rfid users also is not to tail gate when near the booth. If the car on the gate was not detected, the car tailgaiting might get detected first. But usually the rfid system fixes this issues. But make sure to check your weekly or daily statement of accounts for correct billing.

If you were to ask me, RFID lane with a barrier just work merely like a Smart Tag without battery needed. I would suggest took out the barrier and linking the RFID with JPJ system. Skip toll without paying back, no road tax renewal for you. This is the whole idea of resolving traffic jam at toll with high traffic by removing the barrier. At least for me hahaha...

Singapore already wanna phase out ERP and use satellite chip attach to car. They say it’s due to the cost of maintain Mitsubishi ERP gantry is too high about 10 million SGD per one gantry. While it looks good but the story behind isn’t as nice as it is.

just got it installed last week too. for the first time i was excited to pay tolls. passed through a few tolls on purpose. rofl. i think we need to remember that this is the first public testing phase. the sticker is probably not the final form. the actual improvement compared to smarttag is that everything is now done by their servers, so the speed will definitely improve later on. for smarttag, the sensor have to wait for the smarttag device to read the card, then relay back info to it(since the device is basically a dumb "amplifier"). the most time consuming here is the time for the smarttag device to read from your card. now there's no need to wait for the card info the be read, the sensor directly read the id and decide on their servers if the boomgate should open or not. imagine you shouting to someone asking for the name of the person next to him(smarttag reading tng card), vs you reading the name directly from his nametag.

It is good to include in parking if it doesn't charge additional 10% on top of the fees. So people can have the choice of taking ticket or pay via TNG - otherwise it will be die die TNG if you have installed the RFID tag - no chance to even opt for manual ticket. For the parking solution: Actually Flexi Parking App that used by selangor's city concil to pay car coupon is very useful, we only need to key in our car no. plate into the app and reload using the app. Just put the reader that can recognised our car's plate at the mall carpark exit and entrance, that's how westfield London did.

What happen said if I am driving from KL to Penang via the North-South Highway, after passing the toll at Sg. Buloh and heading to Ipoh/Penang, my car got involved in a minor accident that damages the RFID tag or if the tag some how by bad luck got damaged by a flying stone caused by a truck in front of my car, then I will have problem exiting the toll when arriving at Penang?

A backup is the apps which shows a barcode or qr code. On the tol booth place a bar cose scanner and u just can scan it. Same as touching ur touch n go card on the scanner.

Stones hitting the car is inevitable on malaysian highways and need a more robust RFID tag (able to place in car maybe?) to make this work. otherwise, it will be the same jam as smart tag anyway. regarding the stolen rfid tag when your car is in the car park in malls, they can just use the old traditional way, pay whatever amount to the car park management and have the boom gate opened for you, then replace a new rfid tag at the tng centre again, just like a lost ticket. It's a hassle but it's one of the ways

This is brilliant. Just need to settle the security side of it and increase the tolerance of the gantry boom. Next improvement could be make it work under the windscreen. Without all the fuss of Singapore version of erp, you need a whole machine installed in every car, this lower tech version is easier to implement on existing cars. Yeah Singapore has it for normal roads in the city as well as carparks, but contractors say each of those sensors and gantry cost 50k so, much money needed.

I still prefer touch and go card or smart tag, to me, touch and go card can be used in MRT, LRT, carpark, highway, it's more convenient that, every malaysian should have one, for the RFID sticker, if somehow there is a lorry in front of us, and unfortunately the car lamp is broken due to some stones or minor accudent, how we are going to exit the highway, they can make the touch and go card more user friendly by link it to E-Wallet also, and register the touch and go card to our handphone number, so that everybody are able to monitor their card value and reload it easier

I think the reason why that some barrier open earlier and some nearer is due to the various vendor who perform the integration of the reader at toll lane. Each concessionaire appoint different vendors or system integrator company which explain this. But, it is still cool to be able to bypass all the queue when paying for tolls.

The build in smarttag for every car build for Malaysian market have been proposed since ages ago. Only now we see it in the new Myvi, and it work beautifully. And just as thing started to work well with smarttag, they come up with this crap and we start all over again. Sometimes I think they deliberately screwing us.

I love if they could implement it for parking in major buildings (without surcharge of course). There are many parkings in Singapore who allows the usage of their ERP tag to pay for parking. It’s a brilliant idea, I’ve actually email TnG long ago for the usage of SmartTag for malls parking but apparently the biggest issue is who’s going to fork out for the infrastructure cost. The mall operators will not benefit (don’t really have roi in term of it) for implementing it. But I would love to see. Can’t wait for my fitment next week!

However i believe some cars will still stucked and blocking at the RFID lane due to some common reasons like "run out of credit", "Wrong lane", "Sticker gone" and etc... or perhaps the speed too fast... Why not T'n'Go e-wallet link with certain Credit card account to auto top up the credit when the credit too low...

Let's say if the replacement of sticker need 1-2 hrs for activation.. The driver really stuck there since no other option to pass the toll if smart tag abolished.. It's not a good idea to rely on something which unprotected to stick outside of the vehicles and rmbr it's your routine (everyday) activities to pass the toll..

Apart from preventing incidences of SmartTags that are low on power, its still basically the same as the integrated SmartTag in the new Myvi or those who stick the smart tag with sufficient power on their windscreen at a readable angle. The whole idea is to just continue doing whatever you are thru the toll booth safely without shaving too much speed. What's I really wish for as a SmartTag user is, either improve the readable signal distance or move the boom gate further ahead so we don't have to 'crawl' at the signal range. If there really is a concern for people jumping the payment, just take a picture of the offending vehicle and give it to JPJ for the fine. It should not hamper other road users behind. As for using it at drive-thru, would you mind paying surcharge for the convenience to Rangkaian Segar Sdn Bhd, now known as Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd?

Kalau diterapkan di Indonesia akan sulit. Semoga bisa dinikmati oleh umum. Tidak seperti akai ETool Card atau ETool Pass yg lelet. Cuma ya perlu diperhatikan beberapa masalah yg mungkin timbul: Cuma perlu dibuat mekanisme bagaimana tahu sisa saldo supaya tidak lupa isi nabrak palang. Masalah selanjutnya pemasangan EToll Pass suka random kadang ada kadang tidak. Jika ada pun tidak ada petunjuk apakah alatnya on, off atau rusak. Kalau unit pembaca kartu manual yg pakai berhenti buka kaca dan ditempel selalu on. Kalau gardunya ada alat pembaca EToll Pass mengantung tapi lagi bobo alatnya ya nabrak. Mungkin perlu diberi lampu merah dan hijau tambahan selain untuk alat ETool Manual yg berhenti buka kaca dan tempel, ada lampu merah dan hijau untuk unit ETollPass nya. Lalu urusan masuk dan keluar Toll khan di beberapa tuas TOL misalnya Cikampek khan wajib pakai Kartu yg sama, jika pinjam kartu atau ganti kartu berbeda bisa otomatis denda 200ribu dianggap melanggar peraturan menggila putar arah di tengah jalan Tol. Jadi cukup repot harus mencopot kartu dari unit EToll untuk ditempel manual. Untuk resiko potongan Rp200ribu ini hanya terjadi di Tol yang melalui lebih dari satu gerbang tol dan pakai EToll sebanyak lebih dari satu kali. Kalau pakai RF seperti frekuensi di atas maka akan sering kena denda Rp200ribu tsb. Sebab jika lagi tidak mendapatkan gardu RF misal karena salah jalur di jalur manual atau memang RF nya lagi nga berfungsi maka siap siap kena denda rp200ribu karena beda kartu. Pernah aku lewat TOL Cikampek misal pas masuk pakai etool mandiri, pintu tol berikutnya mandiri lagi error jadi pakai flash lalu ya keluar toll bisa resiko kena tuh yg denda Rp200ribu. Aku pernah setahun lalu pinjamkan kartu ke pengemudi yg habis etollnya lalu kena denda 200ribu pas keluar tol. Karena saldoku nga ada maka diajak ke kantor oleh petugas. Aku menggila aja pura pura mau parkir lalu tancap gas. Ujungnya ya nga etoll tetapi "di kantor" Jadi banyak kemungkinan problem yg membuat orang pikir 100x sebelum mau diupgrade tekhnologinya. Lebih murah terima macet aja. Solusi: Mengisi EToll jumlah uangnya harus kurang dari Rp200ribu di saldonya. Kalau lewat jalan Tol yang harus melewati lebih dari satu pintu Tol lebih baik punya beberapa jenis kartu emoney sebab bisa saja lagi eror. Jika muncul tagihan Rp200ribu pura pura aja mau bayar, palang Tol dibukakan manual tancap gas kaburrrr. Kalau mau dibuat menjadi RF Etollnya harus diperbaiki aturan aturannya tidak boleh ada jebakan sisitem yg bisa charge besar tiba tiba lalu konsumen terima nasib saja.

card I think is better because you can remove it to avoid "accidental" transactions for example, some hacker can make a device and just scan your rfid chip and get the money unless there is a security system in the chip then it works just fine

The double boom gate is much faster at opening, should solve the entry speed problem without moving the boom gate further out

The scanner at the toll no different from your home condo security. The scanner really suck big time! Kepong toll and sunway toll’s scanner is way so much better that u can drive 10-15km/h without stopping at all

Here is a cool tip regarding the suction cup keep falling off, spray water on the windscreen as well as the suction cup and then lock the suction cup to the windscreen. Works everytime for me ✌🏻

there is other video mention that only at KESAS toll booth has that problem, also stuck at first try like youand need to reverse... they test at LDP and MEX with no barrier gate delay problem like KESAS... SPRINT also has delay problem...

Please go and do more research on RFID before you said those thing in your video, Look at Singapore ERP, their RFID is install inside the car, why they can detect it so well? US also the same hence don't simply comment before you even do your research well.....

Its good to have it like its easy to use easy to reload and not using batteries and etc. but it sucks when some of the toll lanes doesnt provide myrfid lane and not forget about the stupid people that peel of your rfid sticker eventho its a little bit slow but its better than those very slow tngo lane.

At NPE, the sensor is extended further instead of the boom gate. I guess the RFID detection range is rather short?

The RFID tag is linked to your Touch n Go database which is where your money is. I’m fairly certain no one with RFID device can deduct your money unless the device is linked to Touch n Go upon which you can see the history transaction in the app.

yeah me too, old smart tag or even t n go is better way in term of practicality (change car, someone else use the car), safety (thief/vandalism to that easily access RFID tag), and the performance somehow just same as smart tag. The main improvement for smart tag are better reaction time and speed, eliminate low battery or no battery (like myvi approaches) and reduce cost for consumer. What the fu*k are they doing??

Tbh, I don’t like this RFID stuff.. you can’t stick it inside the car because it can’t be read through car tint, can’t be too close to metal parts, can’t stick it where wipers go, the best option is headlights.. Even the smart tag that had been available for years also still got issues, when you accidentally go through toll a bit too fast, they cant detect the smart tag.. I’m not anti-innovation, I just like a system that can give me 100% success rate at the toll booth.. Never been stuck at the toll when using touch n go.. Been stuck more than ten times at toll booth using smart tag..

RFID will not be implemented for car parks because most car park operators are not willing to pay the commission per entry to TNG for using the technology. Even on TNG Cards, not many car park operators are adopting it.

Indeed, things won't work perfectly if they don't integrate. If integration happen, that would sort of means monopoly if they are from the same provider. No parties want to share a cake.

I have protective film on headlights, will it interfere with the instalment and signal ? Also, if it gets damaged by stones on the road or someone damaged it by trying to remove it cause they don’t understand how it works, how will I get passed the tolls? I mean I’m sure I’d remove my touch & go after getting this. Might have to keep the card for in case reason this making this pointless. I hope they can find a way to add it to a safer place.
