I was 9 years old when JFK was assassinated. I remember many images, but one that stands out is LBJ standing in the back of Air Force One with his hand on the Bible and his right hand held up. He had his obligatory long face (when didn't he?) while standing next to the widow of the man that he most likely had intimate knowledge of all the details of how it happened. When Oswald was shot by Ruby on live television and that Ruby had terminal cancer, my Dad immediately said, "The whole thing is a setup!!" The media was relentless in sticking to the narrative (sound familiar?), but every single American that had any sense knew what it really was.

And in almost 60 years, there is not one (1) solid piece of evidence to support a conspiracy/setup/coup -whatever you call it, because there was none. Didn't happen. Oswald acted alone, and if you're a critical thinker that's looked at the evidence, you'd have to agree. Here's the thing about conspiracy or a coup: They usually get found out. Someone spills the beans.

I was 8. LBJ used to go to my family reunions. (My Great grandparents, in central Texas.). He disgusted me, and was an embarrassment. That said it was HE who pushed for equality for Black folks. The Kennedy's get way too much credit. That said I had read "PT 109" as a 4 or 5 year old and was in love with him. My Mother was too. My Dad was an Air Force officer and they were on lock down for awhile. They thought the Soviets did it. Now we know better. Kill the CIA and most of the other 3 letter agencies. And kill the Fed. JFK was right about everything and he LOVED this country. I miss him.

Why was Johnson sending the attorney general the United States Attorney General to settle political rivalries in other countries...? That’s a job for the Secretary of State
@robertpolityka8464
@robertpolityka8464 Жыл бұрын
My personal belief, is that although LBJ dispised RFK, Kennedy was technically part of the Johnson Team and needed to be visible working as part of the team. I can understand that RFK mourns for his brother and that he hates LBJ, but Bobby Kennedy is paid to do a job. He's not doing his job, by hiding at the Kennedy Compound or at his house, Hickory Hill. His Deputy Attorney General, is running the Justice Department. (LBJ also know that "firing" RFK from the job, is "political suicide". He'd probably prefer keeping RFK as AG, despite any personal animosity. It would be a case of a "skunk inside a tent pissing out", instead of RFK's time as a Senator, being a "skunk outside a tent pissing in.") By having RFK out of the country , he is visible doing something, as part of the administration. RFK wouldn't be moping at his mansion. It could be a sign, of somebody trying to move forward, after the death of a loved one. Also, LBJ might think that having RFK out of the country would prevent Kennedy from scheming to get the Presidential or Vice Presidential Nomination for himself. LBJ might even claim the trip, to be "helping build up Bobby's foreign policy credentials", for a future run in 1972. (Assuming LBJ ran in 1964 and 1968...and won.) Johnson could also work on getting the Presidential Nomination for himself.

I'm NOT an admirer of LBJ for a lot of reasons, however from a purely tactical standpoint RFK and JFK treated Johnson with humiliating contempt always joking about Johnson being a stupid hillbilly because they were Ivy League snobs and their trash talking got back to him. People forget that whatever moral failings LBJ had, he was one of the most skilled political operatives in DC and they hurt their cause by denigrating him.

I agree. LBJ was not the kind of person to treat badly. Kennedys showed him no respect and he did not like it. Kennedy did not like him, but his advisors told him he needed Texas to will in 1960 and they were right.

LBJ and Hoover were neighbors for decades. They shared "mutual contempt" for the Kennedys. LBJ waived mandatory retirement for Hoover as FBI Director, and extended his term for an "indefinite period of time". (Hoover would have been forced to retire in 1965, when he reached 70 years old.)

LBJ lost the solid Democratic South because of his success in passing profound civil rights legislation. JFK was interested I'm passing civil rights legislation but lack the political power in the Senate to do it. Lyndon Johnson had been the master of the Senate. JFK was the Master of the profile, not the skill.
@cordeg
@cordeg Жыл бұрын
Yeah, LBJ and JFK had worked together to stall and water down the Civil Rights Act of 1960 (which, like the Civil Rights Act of 1957 -- and every other civil rights legislation in US history before it -- had been Republican legislation) in the Senate, aiding the southern segregationists. Once president, JFK talked about civil rights but never did anything to expend his political capital to actually DO anything for civil rights. It was LBJ , a man who ironically started his Senate career speaking out AGAINST anti-lynching legislation and had spent his years in the Senate supporting his fellow southern Democratic segregationists, who actually flipped the party on civil rights, dragging the national Democratic party kicking and screaming to the side the Republicans had been on for over a century. LBJ could only get the civil rights act of 1964 passed by relying on the Republican support that had always been there, reversing his own opposition to provisions from the 1957 and 1960 legislation that he had helped get excluded in their final passage. JFK was NEVER going to make that happen.

I find this entire dynamic so incredibly moving. The Kennedys are the closest thing to royalty this country ever had. For better or worse. A lot of it is worse considering what happened to a lot of them. But now after decades of being almost completely away from the political spotlight of his father and uncles, he steps back onto the scene as a potential “white knight“. It was the 3 decades away that makes it even more impactful. Typically I stay away from hyperbole with these types of conversations. But this is literally a hero arc of a shakespearean nature.

JFK was far from a willing civil rights leader. MLK left him little choice. And it was LBJ that actually got the legislation passed not JFK. The first 2 civil rights Acts were passed under Eisenhower, who also sent troops to Little Rock. In 1960 Nixon was considered more liberal on civil rights than JFK. It was Nixon after 1968 who desegregated the schools. Not LBJ not JFK.

I think most Americans have continued down through the decades in uncertainty about the JFK assassination in '63, not wanting to be associated with conspiracy theorists, but yet not being sure that those same people weren't actually right. Now, however, with RFK Jr. opening up, I believe the uncertainty factor is quickly evaporating and wouldn't be surprised if most Americans now agree with him. --- And now to hear from RFK Jr. that we've been lied to about his dad's assassination also, blows the top off the pot. Would that Democrats today were anything like those of yesteryear... those like RFK Jr. No wonder they are pulling out all the stops to put the stops to his run for the presidency. He may very well get the same treatment as his dad and uncle.
@jamesanthony5681

In almost 60 years, there has not been one (1) piece of solid evidence to support a conspiracy, and here's the thing about conspiracies or a coup: They usually get found out. One of the perpetrators spills the beans. It's seemingly impossible to keep it a secret. Neither Ted Kennedy nor RFK Sr. said anything (to my recollection) about the possibility of a conspiracy, and they didn't contradict the conclusions in the Warren Report.
