Winter is ussually where the mechanized warfare really goes crazy. The ground is hard and can actually support the weight of the vehicles and nobody in the right mind likely wants to do battle in the snow, drones can't really loiter for as long as it is so cold. It's still very dangerous but it's probably the best option and is likely safer than in the summer months

Why would tanks not have a place in todays armies? Drones as much as they are being shown as unavoidable and destructive, don't actually have a high success rating against MBTs and AFVs. They are murder for infantry though.

You can't count them out because it's a constant battle. Example, right now drones rule the battlefield. Their reliance on radio comms for direction IS a weakness. Soon, it'll be a fatal one. Then armor will again briefly rule the lines. Then, AI will rise and independent drones will stalk the battlefields and tanks will again assume more distant roles and the battle will go on. Endlessly unnecessary and cruel and wasteful and dumb.

To be fair, the Russian assaults don't 'fail', on average. They are just extremely costly. I hate when people say 'omg Russia keeps advancing' and pretend Ukraine is screwed. Yes, they are advancing... Glacially and across largely insignificant territory, while paying a premium for it. The equation is still in Ukraines favor. Russia is proportionally running out of men and equipment faster than Ukraine, and Russias economy is much more sensitive since Ukraine can be propped up by the west at a cost that represents a minor rounding error for us. As long as the relative loss ratio remains favorable for Ukraine, they are winning

For some REASON I believe "Oreshnik" is filled with Charcoal and nothing else. Maybe it is because Russia dumped a huge load of cheap fuel product (like the lowest of the low in the Adriatic? sea) I never ever heard of this stuff before. People are on the shores with shovels and plastic bags to collect this stuff just to keep the beaches clean. I think it was the Adriatic sea. Only happened end of the year. Here I thought "tar" was the lowest sheet.

Honest question. This seems to be the same old tactic in every situation where Russians want a foothold in a town. They find houses at the edge of town to hide in. Why not wire these houses ahead of time to explode if they enter. Aren't the structures they would hide in pretty obvious? Close to the road with basements easy to get into?

@@bunzeebear2973 They did it in Bakhmut to high rises they knew Russians would go in to and I've seen that they have been doing it using anti-tank mines lately in multistory buildings but they wait until Russians go in and are on upper floors. They drive up, get out and throw the mines into the lower floors and then leave. The mines go off and the building collapses. Considering how many of those mines they use I would think they could use a few of them in those houses.
