@@eunuvreau imho I think the transparent models dissipate heat away from the device better according to the testing. If the outer shell of the transparent model gets hotter than the solid model but inside temps are the same in a "couple minutes" of running GoW, in the long run i think that would mean that the solid colors "project heat back" into the components and that transparent models let heat escape better. I rather have warmer hands than problems with a device due to heat issues. Edit: ow and retro game corps had sound problems with the hinge in his solid colour model. In my experience with different devices transparent models feel smoother to the touch. So maybe because of rougher/stiffer plastic on solid models that produces squeaking in a hinge. So both reasons in mind I decided to buy a transparent color (blue, because i want to play it outside and black stuff gets hot in sunlight quicker). Hi Taki, thanks for the great review! Btw, regarding sleep mode issues on stock - for newer systems like Dreamcast, N64 and PSP, stock OS has an analog to dpad toggle which is mapped to power button. So the power button does not put the device to sleep on these systems. The other thing about taking long to get into and out of sleep - you had the quick shutdown enabled. In this case the power button doesn't put the device to sleep, but instead it does a "fake" sleep like Onion does in Miyoo mini - save state and turn off. So the long time getting back to the game is actually turning on the device and loading last played game with auto load state turned on. Bato/Knulli don't have either of these features so the sleep there is real, however device energy consumption is about 5% per hour since kernel is not open source and proper sleep is not reachable for cfw devs at this time. Stock OS with quick shutdown turned off, does behave the same regarding sleep (including the energy consumption)

I honestly regret spending $200 on the Analogue Pocket a few years ago. It’s cool that it plays the actual game carts, and it’s obviously a much more premium device, but I feel like RG35XX SP is something I’d actually be more comfortable taking with me due to its form factor and lower price.

The Miyoo version will probably be easier on the thumbs due to softer buttons, and also has joysticks... but the CPU is slower and the software is probably going to be significantly worse.

Wow, this is actually rather affordable! I was thinking it would be out of reach for me since I don't want to buy anything $100~200 when I already have another handheld.

Cool story, cool device, but sleep mode should work without a power button press, it should do it while folding down the console, all automaticly. Your only closing the screen for a reason, the reason of a pauze.

Might be a dumb question cause you showed that multiplayer works with two RG35XX but I’m wondering if that means you can “Trade” Pokémon from one another using this method. if so this is such a cheaper way to try and complete a Pokédex as opposed to buying the actual copy’s of the games

I really hope some of these devices get cartridge slots one day. I want to emulate with my actual cartridges and get retroachievements.
@Sin_Alder2 ай бұрын
Probably won't happen anytime soon. Too many people keep supporting these things that are more or less the same devices for the past decade with slightly different form factors, and those people frequently, and very vocally, look down on anyone looking to use physical cartridges. Between the monetary incentives of continuing to not try at all, and that their current primary customer base tends to look down on anyone that likes physical media (but for some reason won't just buy a Steam Deck or something and call it a day, instead buying tons of the same product over and over), companies like these aren't given much reason to improve. We're just going to be stuck with SNES, NES, and Genesis handhelds for the foreseeable future.
@AngelTorres-fj3lu6 ай бұрын
In the future, when we can get more performance for less, adding some circle pads on the bottom would make this kinda handheld be so worth it. Playing GameCube in this form factor would be so stupid but so cool

Using the battery as a heat sink is completely bad design. The enemy number one of battery life degradation is temperature.

Question, why haven't they made a gba cartridge that functions as a gba emulator yet that can just play whatever games you want on a standard sp?

I might've skipped it somewhere but the important question for me: does it go to sleep if you just close the lid? Or it'll stay awake until the sleep timer kicks in?

This would be perfect if it has two 3watt speakers and a high-quality headphone AMP, sadly it only has a very low quality AMP and a single crappy 0.5watt mono speaker, there is always something isn't there, if they made a pro version of this, the RG35XX SPXL, a 4inch HQ-IPS display complete with 2 full 5watt speaker drivers and a 2watt tweeter, you could put the actual motherboard behind the screen, making the bottom half dedicated (other than the battery's and controls, though the internal batteries can go behind the screen, making even more room for speakers) to the speakers, a proper headphone AMP and a decent DAC, making the handheld sound as good as a nice quality 10 watt portable speaker, which would be amazing for all the different emulator's these handhelds play now, would be amazing to have high-quality audio for listening to those incredible Game Boy, GBA, SNES & Mega_Drive and so on soundtracks, so far, no retro handheld has decent audio quality, that is none have good speakers, none have a good DAC or even a nice headphone AMP, even the 9 dollar APPLE USB-C DAC/HP-AMP sounds night & day better than the crap these handhelds ship with. The only handheld I have ever owned with good sound (AMP & DAC) is the Sony PS Vita, which has a really nice Wolfson DAC, and a very nice HP-AMP, the speakers sound decent too (better than every other handheld), the PSP 2000 & 3000 is pretty close to the Vita's audio quality too thanks to also being equipped with a Wolfson DAC and a nice HP-AMP, Apple manages to cram pretty decent speakers and audio quality in their little iPod touch handhelds, way better than these handhelds, so it can be done, 2 5watt RMS drivers in the shape of a square, and a single 2 watt tweeter, properly closed without sound leaks and directing the sound front forwards would be amazing, give the whole audio circuit a dedicated internal 500mah battery wired to output at 9volts, it's only needed to feed the AMP/DAC/Speakers properly, the main battery will keep it fed with power, but that will only be wired for 5volts, hence the extra 9volt battery for the internal AMP to power & amplify both the speakers and headphone AMP output. Talking of batteries, I would love it if it had removable AA batteries, as these are so easy to obtain, rechargeable AA batteries can be purchased in bulk for cheap, and it means you never have to plug it into the wall, you can swap out the batteries whilst you are out and about, it just makes so much more sense than the horrible cheap and nasty standard lithium batteries that are 9 in 10 unreplaceable, at least not easily, it makes so much more sense for a handheld like this, and the internal small 500mAh battery will mean you can swap the batteries without the unit powering down, as the internal 500mAh will act like a UPS unit, you can even have an extra larger internal battery as well as replaceable AA batts and the internal 9volt audio battery, if you put a nice large flat lithium battery behind the screen, you could have the internal battery that is up to around 5000 mAh, giving an extra 12hrs plus when your main AA batteries have runout or waiting to be swapped out or charged, 4 3500mAh AA batts = 14000mAh, plus 5000mAh internal, making nearly 2KmAh total for up to 48hrs of continuous use, so awesome sound, massive battery capacity, perfect SPXL formfactor, though I'd make the buttons microswitches, or 4 microswitch main buttons, and one double size A button and 1.5x size B button to differentiate them from the other 4 main buttons, also make them dome mechanical analogue buttons like the PS2 main buttons are, which makes for much better main action buttons, get all that right and you have a near perfect retro handheld.
