Could you please explain how the RGB amplifier works? I don't understand how it can amplify the voltages back to the original values without knowing what the original voltages are. For instance at the end of the 2nd strip the end max voltage is now 10V when it should be 12V. How does the amplifier "know" that 10V should really be 12V ? This doesn't make any sense to me. Thanks.

@1:58 "the next step is to add 12Volt power to the AMP" the set up being used in the video isn't explained very well but they are using 12V Strips and an additional 12v power supply. The amplifier takes whatever input signal comes in on the left and bumps it to whatever the "power in"(right side, top [=] and [-]) voltage is, in this case, 12v. Adding a device like this allows for longer runs of LED strips by lessening the current draw at the driver end of the line. you can find devices the take a range of power inputs but whatever the supply in Voltage is, the RGB out will

Keanu Stevenson i dont think it works that way. Voltage is applied to each r g or b channel 0-12V. This is done by a driver circuit, which I think PWMs the 12V voltage to ground for each channel to produce the variable brightness for each color. But the applied voltage is not known to the amplifier. I could be giving 5V to the G channel, but the amplifier wouldnt know if the reduced voltage at the end of the strip was because of the 5V applied voltage at the start or because of the strip resistance.

Stephen Kramer, I believe you are confused on how the led strip is being controlled, the signal that is amplified is the pwm signal cycle and the voltage applied at the driver is always 12v but pulsed at various durations and intervals. I think you will find your confusion in understanding how the device works if you were to look at what PWM is and how it controls the LED strip. james wilson yes. Controller to change colours. Amp just let’s you send power to led strip runs greater than 5m, which is generally the max length of a single run
