Hey there! I was also a German car addict, mainly BMW's with a decent amount of M vehicles. But quickly got disillusioned as the Ultimate Driving Machine kept growing in weight and size each year, not to mention that their classic design language seemed to go out the window at some point. A brief birght spot was when BMW introduced the i3 and i8, both future-powered and innovative in materials and design. My wife and I had 3 different i3s over the years and loved them; really an underappreciated early-EV! But BMW squandered their early-move advantage with the i-brand and started to fall behind in the transition. Now I have a Tesla Model Y Performance and I can confidently say that I will never have another ICE car again! And chances are that I will stick with Tesla as long as they continue to make the most efficient and minimal EVs out there. Can't wait for my Cybertruck!!

For pure city driving, Tesla's price vs performance vs luxury is unbeatable. After test driving, I instantaneously sold my X6M to get a Model Y which is roomier, faster, quieter, with better handling. Best part? I'm saving ~5k per year on gas and I'm well below the average mileage per year.
@seppi3201 Жыл бұрын
wait, you have no issues with the suspension system? AFAIK X6M is less bumpy compared to MY.
@WhatTheFlipOfficial Жыл бұрын
@@seppi3201 Over tiny shallow bumps, X6M is able to soak them up slightly better. Large bumps, the extra weight trumps X6M's air suspension (although, it's already quite stiff for an air suspension due to it being an M car). The entire car would wobble and jiggle over a manhole that has a ~2 inch drop. The MY would go over these larger bumps with ease and bounce back with confidence. X6M almost felt like you lose control of the car. I've also previously owned a Cayenne GTS with air suspension, a X6 M50i with air suspension, M3 F80, M4 F82, M3 E92, 335i E92 and quite a few more to compare with.

I can come up with a whole list of things I appreciate so much about my Tesla. All of the automatic settings make it so easy. Auto headlights, wipers, climate control are great for me. Putting the climate on dog mode or Keep makes it cooler in the summer, especially coming out of the grocery store. Speaking of the grocery store, I love the lower storage in the back to put all the bags in. Keeps stuff from falling over. The streaming music is fabulous. I can play anything I want. Lastly is the navigation. I will admit to not being great with directions. Just putting in the address and getting turn by turn directions has saved me several times. Why I’m ruined by Tesla: My top 5 likes: The company. All they’ve ever built is EVs. They are dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced like no other EV company, and build an amazing product. The technology. From the screen, to the software, to the phone app, to the OTA updates - all are so terrific! The driving experience. Yes, I have the cheapest, smallest, slowest Tesla - but it is just a hoot to drive! I love taking it on the twisty mountain roads, whipping it around corners. And fun in the city and on the interstate and the highways and byways. Capacity. We (2 adults and 2 teenage boys) have gone on family vacations of 7-10 days, 2,000+ miles. For a midsized sedan, it’s amazing just how much stuff it can hold. We’ve put all our stuff in the trunk, frunk, and sub trunk areas. Oh, and also a Modern Spare tire! That kept the passenger cabin free for just the humans! The Supercharger network. This car has been up and down the West Coast and across the US. In all my drives in 2.5 years, in megatropolisis and out in the boondocks, on interstates and backcountry roads, I’ve never had range or charger anxiety. And only one wait, for 5 minutes, in Glenwood Springs, CO. Am I ruined? YES! And I’m soooo happy to be soooo ruined!

Comparing costs gas vs electricity, varies widely in different parts of the country. I’m on the West Coast where gas is $6.50/gal, and even electricity is fairly high at .20/Kwh at home and .35/Kwh at Superchargers (actually demand priced higher at times). I regularly drive a 100 mile loop and I calculate I spend $5 for home electricity and $6 for tire wear! I’m about half way through my original set of tires, and the next set will cost me $1500. (25000 miles/100 miles is 250 trips, $1500/250 = $6 per trip) That’s a bit eye popping. 👀. I’m looking forward to your up coming video on EV tire replacements. My old gas powered SUV got 20 mpg, 100 miles / 20 mpg is 5 gallons of gas. At $6.50/gal, that’s $32.50 per trip. The SUV tires lasted about 40,000 miles but only cost $1000. 40,000 miles/100miles is 400 trips and $1000/400 is $2.50 of tire wear per trip bringing the gas SUV cost per 100 mile trip to $35. A full analysis would also compare the cost of insurance and other maintenance. The insurance is, of course, more for the Tesla, but other maintenance is less.

I Turo-ed a MS in San Diego and it was such a nice car (fast, luxurious, sporty). I was impressed that the owner was able to give me access to use his car via the Tesla app. As nice as the MS was, I still think my MY is more comfortable and practical.

The thing I appreciate most about my tesla is my 9 hour drive in my diesel truck is now a 14 hour drive because I have to stop and charge every 200 miles. Around town it's great, but my time is money and that 5 extra hours cost a lot of money. The range just isn't there for me to convert to electric.
@Thefrmgallery11 ай бұрын
Understandable. The frequent charging was a drawback on trips.
@Garrison1698 ай бұрын
You can sync your charging stops with your eating and pit stops on road trips. If you navigate to a Supercharger, the battery will be conditioned to be charged when you arrive at it. You should be able to charge from 20 to 80% in 20 minutes. Driving over 70 mph will make your charging stops more frequent and your trip take longer.

@@GjeebsI wish you made more videos showing the efficiency improvements. I plan to get a white/white model 3 and without a garage to park in, I feel like that will be the best way to keep the battery as cool as possible in the summer.

When you do your EV tire comparison video, I would greatly appreciate any info or advice for PA winter driving. Not sure you will make it to Pitt to do any portion of that video, but there is not enough information out there on various tire types even with AWD Tesla for performance and snow or all weather type tires relating to PA hilly driving. If you’re from PA then you know what I mean when I say steep “hilly” - park your car at night and hope it’s still there by morning type hills. 😅 Thanks for all you do in the Tesla family & will continue to watch and laugh - as always.

Curious if recirculating the air improves anything in colder climates. I know you're in Arizona but I'll never ever see the 97 degrees you mentioned where I live, and am curious if recirculating the air is worth it at all for road trips in colder climates.

Recirculation is useful with the AC active in order to remove cabin moisture that causes your windows to fog up or, where I live, frost up on the inside. If you use Recirculation during the winter without the AC on, then your windows will quickly fog/frost on the inside.

You must not have Hills where you live . My average over 6500 miles is around 300 watts per mile . If I go on the 150 mile trip to the lake an back with a sailboard on the racks it uses around 240 miles of range (around 350 to 375 watts per mile). I have hills where I liver but the temp is never very hot or cold. 2023 Model Y LR delivered at the end of March. No complaints about the way the car works . Auto Pilot scares me if there is a lot of traffic around. Also electricity is very high in california but gas has been around 6 bucks a gallon for most of the year electricity at peak times is 40 to 50 cents a kilowatt. PGE off peak charging rate is 24 cents a kw but I have Solar also even though the Electric company's in California are trying to kill it .

and the Ford app and screens are MUCH worse, too. Very frustrating and hard to use.. really, you can't adjust the POWER nor % charge limit onscreen, or app, w/o going into deep per-location menus! Ridiculous! Remote climate worked half the time. Phone lock/unlock was also wonky and unreliable, and hard to tell if it worked or not (there is no "padlock" icon to show current status!) Rivian is closest, mostly they just copied nearly every Tesla feature (even Sentry Cam and dog/camp HVAC mode), but... still doesn't work as well. Ford is distant third... some EVs, don't even have trip/charge planning still in the nav!!!

So if theres fewer parts in an EV why are they more expensive than their ICE counterparts. Why is insurance for a vehicle with fewer parts and as high of safety rating as a Tesla often 300% higher than a ICE counterpart? Thats the dirty part of the industry that needs more light shed on it. I just priced a 12v battery for my 2020 Y. It's essentially a lawnmower sized car style battery. It's $100 more than the battery that was much bigger i put in my CX9.
@jospoz619 Жыл бұрын
I feel the same way. I got 2 ICE vehicles besides my EV’s. I honestly don’t care for ICE cars anymore. Im keeping my truck until the cyber truck comes out and my old Mustang because I love my 3er pedal. Other than that I’m done with ICE cars.
@Gjeebs Жыл бұрын
Yea that's kind of where I am at. There are enthusiast ICE cars that EV's can't replace and I don't want those to go away but for the majority or driving an EV is better
@1HeatWalk11 ай бұрын
In other words, a Tesla is a bad investment long run once it gets past it's warranty when something major breaks. You probably don't have many 3rd party repair shops or OEM parts available for replacement, so you have to go to Tesla for repairs that could cost you an arm and a leg?
