I also love the catalyst pedals. I am considering the new evo, but I am totally convinced its an upgrade over the v2 model that i have now. I trust the inventor though, so I will give them a try.

I bit the bullet about 6 months ago and got a pair. I didn't think I could love a pedal this much. Every once in a while I think about putting my OneUp composits back on to save some wait but I just can't. These are too good!

Love my Catalysts V.2 (second pair already), need the EVO!

I recently purchased a set of catalyst peddles, so far so good. Though it would be nice too have more color option than are currently offered. I will be painting mine soon, either an Army tan color or some hue of green.

Live the catalysts, I'll have to pick the evos up once I wear these out!

Do you know if these pedals can be used on a Recumbent Trike? Your video started out really blurry then it cleared up. Thanks for sharing thinking about getting these for the recumbent trike.

I have the v2 of the pedals and i definitely like riding them. One of my spindles snapped on me and pedaling innovation was super fast and warranty and getting me replacements (to many rides at wildcat i suppose 😅) i still don't know if I perform better when using them vs my primary pedal of choice the OneUp Components composite with personal upgrade to 12mm pins , but i also ride them mid foot as well.
@gammondog4 жыл бұрын
Excellent review! I rode for thirteen years on toe clips and found them to be better than the flats pedals that were common back them. They didn’t require a special shoe that was ill suited for walking and kept my size fourteens from slipping off the pedals. These pedals may be a better alternative. I just ride to get around and don’t really need to pull on the upstroke. 😊 Thanks.

2:03 I have the this version, 6:18 I can get it to stay in same position by packing them with grease. if you use the right viscosity then the pedal can spin easily, but yet stay in thee same position, I used Park Tool HPG-1

Replaceable pins are a big improvement for NE terrain!
@MissingLinkMTB4 жыл бұрын
Those pins have issues in removal if they get damaged as well. If the pedal is threaded for them the damaged threads on the pin will tear that up and possibly ruin the pedal. At that point however I assume you could drill and tap it to convert to a grub screw.
@mtbboy19934 жыл бұрын
If they get bent you can't remove them without cutting off the top part or bending it back, which might snap it off. I had Straitline DeFacto before on those I hit the pin and ruined the threads completely at the pedal, thus install of new pin was not possible. I haven ruined the threads on the Catalyst pedal yet, but I had to replace a pin once, I used pliers for that.

I have a pair of these and love them for mountain biking and gravel rides. I just did a snow ride with them and they constantly were getting iced over and very slippery. My 5-10s couldn't get a good grip at that point. I'll have to find a better winter pedal solution....otherwise I love em.
@rgmtb3 жыл бұрын
Do you have the longer pins installed in these? I'm asking because I have quite a few friends that actually use these pedals specifically for winter riding because of the big platform and traction. Also, I don't use my Five Tens in the winter because the bottom of the shoe is flat and I slip all over the place. When the weather gets bad we are all wearing boots and these pedals. Let me know your thoughts.

The Evo Has pins like my race face atlas. Super sticky, love em! Much better than grub pins. Probably why there’s less of them.

Anything of the sort available in Europe please? The price is already on the high side, plus they don't ship to my country (Malta, EU), not to mention possible shipping + import costs if they did.

Hya, I was wondering how you like the new evo's . I was happy with them , but now my feet get more and more movement all the time. It might be because the few and pointy pins are damaging my 5/10 shoes, I was wondering if you have a similar experience.
@flamepruf50434 жыл бұрын
I have v1’s. I love them and even run a pair on my gravel bike (just don’t like foot position for clipless). My V1’s don’t spin that good. Which I’m ok with cause I prefer my foot comes off my foot goes right back on without searching. I’m excited about the new pins though. A more solid pin would be easier to reposition during my ride. Now it’s a little peck and hunt to find my grip again when I do loose a peddle, if that makes sense.
@johnjohannemann5364 жыл бұрын
I need to add my two cents here. By far the absolute best flat pedals I’ve used are by MZYHR. I have them on my Trek hardtail and also on my GT Idrive XCR full suspension bike. They are triple bearing, reasonably priced and CNC machined. I won’t use any other pedal.

Currently looking at these pedals and was wondering what your take is on the grip of V2 vs Evo? I would think that having 8 less pins but with a "better" pin design will provide more grip, especially because the V2 pins are size/height adjustable.

I'd really love to give a pair of the XLs a try but seems like these came out right after I bought a new pair of DMR Vaults. Ain't gonna happen at least until those wear out...Dont know if that's possible but maybe some day.
@gammondog4 жыл бұрын
You can always buy another bike😉! I’m sure you wouldn’t mind chucking the standard pedals on that one.

Do you think the EVO has too much friction with the new bushings for rides that involve lots of pedaling? Would the standard Catalyst be better for this situation? Thanks!
@mtbboy19934 жыл бұрын
that friction won't make much difference, but it will keep the pedal in the same position if you take the foot off cranks spin, thus easier to get the foot on, but I just put grease in mine to get similar effect.
@timb80984 жыл бұрын
@@mtbboy1993 Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll probably get the Evo version then as I really like the smaller, sharper pins over grub screws because they seem to grip better in my experience

Pedaling Innovations just released the Catalyst Evos again. Their supply is limited, so order them soon if you want a set!

6:04 The old pedals spin freely because they're worn. They don't spin as freely when they're new.
@vinnerdinner9 ай бұрын
The problem with those pedals is the weight… they should try a composite instead.
@rgmtb9 ай бұрын
I'll have to weigh them against other large pedals like this. For me, the few extra oz's is worth the pedal platform but I understand that some folks are very concerned with keeping their bikes weight down.

Shame, just an advertisement for these pedals. Thought this was gonna be an honest review. Why didn;t you say they were sponsoring you
@kevgoo1274 Жыл бұрын
Probably not the best for downhill. They are so long it would probably be harder to drop your heels
@brentf73574 жыл бұрын
Best decision I ever made was to only test ride these pedals once. Crank brothers Stamp 7’s are way better in my opinion
@mtbboy19934 жыл бұрын
why are Stamp 7 better for you? to me those are tiny, so are all other pedals on the market. but if you have small enough feet then it's fine.
@andersun164 жыл бұрын
I don't think a few grams justifies a whole new pedal design in this category. Most folks that wear flats are riding downhill, park, or another discipline not based on efficiency down to a gnat's ass. That said, I like the idea of a pin that is removable from the back. If you are changing a pin, it's likely because that pin is destroyed or heavily maimed so having a good tool interface is key.
@rgmtb4 жыл бұрын
I agree and when I asked about the weight James had said that the main focus was the new pin design and it also happens to be a little lighter. The weight difference is not important to me at all but it's the pin design that I'm most interested in.
@mtbboy19934 жыл бұрын
@@rgmtb I won't bother upgrading to the new, unless I manage to destroy the pedals I have, but I have spare axles, service kit, and several of the pedals, so I am ready I am on the safe side, so if I have a brutal crash I am not in trouble. but the one set I used the most has starting to get Raw(black colour is wore off) especially the left side, I am not sure why, also pretty scraped up.b ut still in good shape.
