I have this Bible and have really enjoyed it. The notes are a treasure trove of insights, explanations, and show the archaic words with their modern equivalents. I have about every study bible out in the market (a whole lot of them anyway). And I like the notes that put a maximum of info into the relatively brief notes (a real strong-point). The articles are quite interesting and thought provoking. One of the special features this Bible has is the listing of various creeds in the back (including the Westminster Confession of Faith). As usual I don't agree with all of the various theological views and perspective presented in the Bible--but for me that's the usual. And as I always say of any Study Bibles and as we say it in Texas--"Eat the watermelon and spit out the seeds." This is an excellent review of this Bible.

Amillennialism -- ah YES...! Never ever ever did the Millennium interpretations make sense to me, even as a child, until I learned of amillennialism just a few short years ago. Now THAT makes sense! Referring to the commentary on Isaiah 9:1-3, you are absolutely right -- commentary that confuses enough that I cannot help but wonder if it was "an extreme typo" at best, or shabby and misleading at worst. I hope not to find too many like that in this Bible, but it is still the best study Bible in my own estimation I have seen thus far. I may disagree with a number of the commentaries (but not as many as I disagree with in other Bibles, haha). You did a very nice review, Mr. Jones, and pointed out many interesting things about this Bible.
@BeingConsciousness-yw3zw2 жыл бұрын
I was fortunate enough to be taught amillennialism at a church I attended for 3 years before I got saved at an independent fundamental Baptist church. The first church was wrong on the gospel (Lordship salvation), but right on Jesus’ position as the King who sits upon the throne of our heart, conquering forth with the gospel (revelation 6). The IFB church I got saved at was right on the gospel (salvation by faith alone) but wrong on eschatology.
@MadlyinLovewithJesus-19532 жыл бұрын
@@BeingConsciousness-yw3zw I have never found even one teacher or preacher who gets everything right (in my opinion), but it's a great reminder to me that there is only ONE who KNOWS it all perfectly, and I can live with that. And it helps keep me from any tendency toward idolizing any teacher or preacher, etc.

@@MadlyinLovewithJesus-1953 For a more thorough explanation of Amillennialism search Kim Riddlebarger on KZbin and he has a great series on this topic. I disagree with his interpretation of Romans 11 (I believe the fullness of the Gentiles being brought in is the same thing as All Israel being saved) and I don’t agree with infant baptism but he completely debunks premillennialism.

Of all the reformation study bibles.. Which do you recommend??
@RGrantJones3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, Sylvia -- but it's a hard one to answer. If you don't mind the light, thin font and wide columns in the Reformation Study Bible, I would go with it. But those are deal breakers for some people. (I reviewed the NKJV edition here, but it also comes in the ESV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYi4nZmLfspgh7s .) A second option would be the older Reformation Study Bible, which had two columns and a darker font. You may be able to find one on eBay or Amazon used. I reviewed it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWfdknaIZpJoe9k . The Reformation Heritage Study Bible is very good as well, particularly if the KJV is your primary translation.

Me too! It's kind of interesting that the '67 Scofield just replaces those three verses without enclosing them in its normal | lines. It reads, "O ye Corinthians, our speech to you is candid, our heart is wide open. On our part there is no constraint in your affections. In fair exchange (I speak as unto my children), open wide your hearts to us." And it gives the original KJV passage in a footnote. They made a few word replacements in the Galatians passage, but, as far as I can tell, the only thing they did to Isaiah 9.1-3 was replace "not increased" with "increased." That change helps a bit, but the total sense is still obscure, because 9.1 is perplexing as written.

This is one of my favourite study Bibles. It has the nice confluence of being Reformed (hence, like Lutheranism, genuinely Protestant, not sectarian like the gawd-forsaken Arminians who are such a blight on North American Christianity) and it also uses the A.V. (K.J.V.), my favoured translation. All that it lacks of real importance is the A.V.' s Apocrypha. Most A.V. study Bibles are worthless rubbish from sectaries. Not this one! I like its sobriety, too, restrained and helpful rather than flashy.

Premillennial bias in so many foolish study Bibles ruins them with a mania of prophetical speculation. I look askance at any study Bible that is overtly Premillennialist. They usually are deeply flawed and just downright stupid.

Believing the KJV is Gods preserved Word is Faith. These other translations really mess with doctrines esp that of Soteriology. I dont understand how someone could think or say that we are superior to the men of old that were endowed with the task of a real Literal translation. Word of word is how the translation was done. This isnt really to you grant but to whomever may read the comments. No ill will just love.

KJV maybe the best we had but half were Catholics and the other half were Puritans but they was much compromising done. The only ture word is the Textus Receptus from where the kjv gets it's text.
@fredeskridge224 жыл бұрын
Gerald Cortez my question to you is why did God tell us his word will be preserved for all generations, but in return he allowed man to ruin his book? We say there was compromise not actually knowing that. It was hundreds of years ago. Now having faith in God to preserve his word sounds much like the Christian thing todo in my eyes. In the end the KJV isn’t a man thing it’s a God thing. Not a King James thing but a Jesus Christ thing. Idk I guess that’s the difference in KJO and not.
