Yeah, especially if it’s something you didn’t know was a thing, and it’s not made anymore and I’m like, “oh man… wait, are any on Reverb?” Most of the time it’s just priced out of my range, and sometimes, it’s not too much and I don’t have the money, so it’s either “What can I sell, and not regret later…? Ive been playing since I was 15 and Im 57 and until about ten yrs ago I had owned only one electric and one acoustic..this is even with me having been in a working band...I just never thought I was a good enough player to deserve better guitars then about ten yrs ago I discovered that YT has an instructional vid for virtually any song Ive ever dreamed of playing and within a yr Id gotten so much better than Id ever been that I actually hauled off and bought a US strat...then I kept getting better and buying guitars, I got obsessed with learning everything about guitars and guitar companies. I never got up to the amount you describe but I got kind of carried away but I finally trimmed it down to the strat, a Flying V of course, an SG and my original Lotus electric from the early 80s plus some decent acoustics. It would be wild tho to have 165 at home, I literally might not even have space for that many! Imagine if you restrung them all at once youd need 165 packs of strings! 30's still a lot tho so dont feel bad.

I had taken a guitar in to sell to GC and thought nothing about it. I get a knock on my door a week later from a detective. He informed me that I was being investigated for trafficking stolen goods! WTF? Thank GOD I saved the original receipts from when I bought it. It turned out that the dude who entered the number into the system is dyslexic or whatever, he transposed some numbers and they matched up with a stolen guitar. Same make, same model just two digits were backwards. So, if you're into the selling/buying of instruments, keep your receipts. I stick everything in a shoebox and forget about it. Until it becomes necessary to clear you from a crime.

Several years ago, a young man approached me in Guitar Center and said, “sir , I am getting married soon and am worried about my wife getting concerned about my guitar collection and my desire to buy more in the future. Do you have any suggestions for me?” I told him what a buddy shared with me “Buy all Fiesta Red guitars and have them all over the house…they are harder to count that way!” After telling me thanks, I asked him if he had any suggestions for me. He said his uncle told him, “buy as many empty guitar cases that you can afford and then sell off the cases each time your new guitar arrives”. Any that my friends in pure genius! I wish I had known this before I got married. (Sorry 5WW!):)

Never been big on having multiple of the "same" guitar. In the cases where i do, the pickup config is so different they fill a completely different niche. Like my Tele ASAT classic and thinline deluxe, or my LP with humbuckers and my goldtop P90. The closest are my two strat styles with single coils but even there, one has a David Gilmour pickup/wiring setup and the other has gold foils. An ES 335 Lucille and a Brian May red special and I will have all my dream guitars.

I do play them but know they will be a better ROI than if I stuck that same money in the bank. Besides, you can't play and enjoy money the way you can and do with guitars!

Hi Robert, I recently started building my own guitars- and I love it!!!!! It is really really fun- The coolest part is I get wood from crazy places, for example I have a piece of oak wood from a dam that was built across our local river- and it was built around the time of the civil war... So its a really cool piece of oak- Im going to build an explorer with it. So a few months ago I built an explorer body guitar with a single hot rail, no volume, just direct from pickup to output jack. The wood was from an old door frame from the old wood shop where I worked for my father when I was a little kid until in my 20s.... So the wood is this really old pine from an old building with real significance to me from my childhood...However- that guitar is CRAZY heavy!!!! It weighs 14 pounds!!!!! So, should I route out the back and make it way way lighter? The thing is- it sustains FOREVER!!!! That guitar right now sounds incredible! If I shave off a bunch of the wood, will it mess up the most amazing tone I have in any of my guitars? What is your heaviest guitar? I am guessing 9 pounds. Again, this thing is an explorer shaped body, solid Pine, 14 pounds- But it sustains for days!!!! Thanks for this killer video....

Then I won a PRS SE Silver Sky in another draw.....the HB went on reverb 😂.

A builder or mechanic does not feel bad for having lots of tools. It's how you make your living, so they're tools pretty much. However, if they're not getting used letting them go is worth considering, so somebody else can give the things some TLC and play time. That said I do not sell so much guitar gear these days, whereas I used to sell everything that was not being used. I am getting old and I am not well, so I do not have the funds to burn on guitar stuff like I did. What I do have I am hoarding, so it goes to my nephew when my bucket day arrives -- hopefully a good few years off yet. Therefore I tend to buy stuff considering if he would like it too.

At one time my collection was much like yours. Last year I took note of what I play most. I tend to go to Telecaster type guitars(G&L ASAT’s) and not playing the Strat style guitars( G&L Legacy, S500’s and Comanche’s) so I sold them. I do play my PRS guitars( DGT and Paul’s guitar) kept those, I also have a Tanglewood DLX 15 ( made in England, not China). That guitar is VERY balanced and loud. I have installed a K&K western passive system. I now have all the bases covered with those guitars. My GAS IS GONE, hopeful it never comes back. Oh! I also have my perfect amp…. A SAMAMP VAC 12. 3,5,8,10,18 and 25 watts. Controlled by a switch and different watt light bulbs. Cheers!

E standard: Yamaha SL-500 (1985 Les Paul), S-Tune (2005 Jackson Dinky clone w/Floyd Rose), masterbuilt strat (2011, which I'm playing on regular basis) and masterbuilt 1994 superstrat w/FR-like tremolo, which is my first and only guitar till 2005. Eb standard: Greco strat (1975) and Ibanez RG350DX (2007) Basses are MiJ Fender Jazz Bass (1994 and 2002) for each tuning respectively. If I ever play in a band again, probably I will buy another guitar, because highly likely the band will play in different tuning, and I don't want to mess with tuning change on guitars I already own.

One with fixed bridge and humbuckers( Les Paul, SG etc,), one with single coil pickups(Strats, of course), and an 80s style guitar with a mix of pickups, preferably high gain with a Floyd Rose and 24 frets( Jackson, Charvel, ESP, Ibanez) You NEED one amp with channel switching, I found the Marshall DSLs, EVH 5150s or Orange Rockerverbs are the best. Pedals you need overdrive, delay, reverb, wah and something phaser or flanger. Thats it for me

I was up to 23 at the peak of my sickness. I'm down to 8. I made a rule for myself that works pretty good. If I want another one, then one has to go. Not necessarily sold for cash, maybe a trade for something else, a piece of rack gear or a nice mic, for instance. I figure that a Strat, Tele, Les Paul, and some kind of righteous acoustic is enough. Those 4 really cover the needs. Everything else is wants. Likewise for amps. A little single ended cathode bias tube rectified pee wee thing covers the Tweed Champ thing, then some kind of larger clean Fender type for the Blackface thing, and something that can hold its own with a drummer who's an ape. That one needs to do clean and dirty. If you have those, your arsenal is complete. The bases are overed. The rest is fluff.

Yes that's right, on top of being an amazing guitarist Ed King had a PRS signature guitar! One thing that makes it unique is that it has three pickups. I’m starting to figure out what DO I need and what don’t I need from my collection. I went nuts and did a spreadsheet. Found I have too many similar enough guitars that I can sell few of them. Also found I was missing a few things like I only had one semi-hollow/chambered guitar, a G&L Tribute ASAT Classic, and nothing with a piezo aside from my PRS acoustic. So I found a used Reverend Manta Ray 290 for not too much, and bought a new Schecter C-1 E/A (I tried the PRS Hollowbody w/piezo first, just didn’t feel it.) I also kind of went through “I have this, can I get something better, or similar for less?” Which led to me selling my Dano 12 string and getting the Squier Jazzmaster 12 for half the money I earned. I’m thinking of maybe swapping out my ‘57 Strat (AVRI) for a G&L Skyhawk, but I’m not sure since I’d probably have to sell a few other guitars to get it (the price jump from G&L Tributes to Made in Fullerton is nuts. G&L, can we get a Skyhawk Tribute?)

Have 8 guitars, 6 electrics, 1 bass & 1 acoustic. Guitars that I never would've ever said would be the one's I would or did end up with. And I did it on a budget of a Fender Player Series MiM at pre-pandemic price. All 8 < than a Fender Player MSRP & on sale or whatever month has or doesn't have a holiday. They aren't grail guitars to be coveted by anyone, unless they saw Jeff Beck playing one of them, obviously before he passed away. Only regret ? I created a collection of maintenance. Strings are 9's, 9.5's, 10's for electrics. 12's for the acoustic, 45's for the short scale bass.

Since you're already wired for Fishman pickups - maybe it would be worth a quick try to check out Fishman's Javier Reyes signature set which might be just what you're looking for. "Javier Reyes - live at The NAMM Show 2020 - Fishman Fluence" is the title of a demo he did explaining and demonstrating how he wanted his pickups to not only be voiced but how they respond to his playing, dynamically. He's using an 8 string guitar in the demo but its construction is very similar to your Acacia so it should compare favorably with your platform.

The first step is to admit you have a problem...which you have done! Good on ya!

You don't need to feel better about. It's like it's hard you have. I'm glad you have them. I'm thankful for you and I have. I don't own any real Name brand guitars. The closest thing I have is a squire standard. But I'm saying before them and enjoy playing them, making some music. I love watching your programming. And listening to you play. Wish I could play like that. I know you just moved from Ohio a few months ago. I love your new studio. That's where I grew up in Ohio.. I still miss it. You shouldn't feel bad because you've been blessed to have nice things.

The yellow RG is incredible, it the 63 Strat and your KM and you really don’t need anything else, but needing ain’t got nothing to do with it but the yellow RG is sexy because It’s been played to death obviously because they are incredibly great guitars. Then you bust out the green firebird and you and I have similar tastes in guitars because everything you got is awesome I dig the Friedman too .

Pickup recommendation for ya, Lambertones Crema!!! Absolutely Wonderful PUPs. Lower output PAF type with fantastic clarity and drives very well. Sounds fab driven while being very articulate. Would like to hear your thoughts after checking them out for a while. Cheers!

So the Ibanez RG-50 looks the same as my Fender Talon. Very cool that is my favorite guitar of mine

Hey Robert! Never comment, but I gotta tell you, with your Firebird, you can put a few strings through the trem and a few still on the bridge to do a little B bender action. Or BG bender or anything lol. Did it on my sg and it’s fun!

What an “ awesome collection” I’m not a huge fan of Super Strats but you certainly have some classics. I’ve been Gassing since 1970 and currently have 57 guitars, 10 Amps, 2 drum kits and 5 basses. I retired in 2018 and have been selling off the collection, it is hard out there so many “ low ballers “ offering piss poor offers. Sign of the times I guess. I want to shave it down to 12 guitars ( my most played ) and 2 Amps. Australia is a tough market nobody has any money and some of what I’m selling is not well known ( Fender/ Gibson ) are really popular but that’s the limit of the general public. Aria, Washburn, B&G and exotic brands are hard to sell.

I always enjoy watching your videos even if you're just showing your guitars. It's interesting.

I've got 55 guitars all lefthanded. You have not got a problem. I know what it looks like.

You remind me of myself in the 80s rocking the Camaro and Vette tops. My man.
