In this video I take you through some of the basic functions of the new Timer 3 from RH Designs in the UK. This timer can operate both as a linear seconds timer and an f-stop print timer with 1/6th stop increments.

You deserve more subs, honestly. As a fellow printer, I get excited every time I see a video pop up in my subscription tray.

Nice timer from RH, and nice to see you back. There aren't too many of us darkroom printers on youtube.

Nice to see this demonstrated in a video. One minor correction: the "-F." display on power-up doesn't indicate f-stop mode, but is part of the firmware version ID (indicating the "full" version with control of the printing mode and display brightness enabled).

Nice to see another video from you. I’m looking around for a timer at the moment...hoping to catch a bargain on a used one. I doubt we have many F-stop timers floating around on the used market though. People love them. I wish this one had more buttons.

I've been thinking of buying the Analyser Pro thats dedicated to the Ilford Multigrade 500 system I use on my DeVere 203. The RH Design seem to be great build quality.

I have an RH Designs Analyser Pro, which I absolutely love. I use its meter features to get a starting point in all my B&W printing, and I use it as a basic f-stop timer for color printing. That being said, I think this "Timer 3" has been simplified to the point of being almost useless and quite annoying. (And I'm not even sure how you'd use it to make a test strip, without wanting to pull your hair out at every mis-click.) Even if I were to envision a basic no-frills digital f-stop timer, I'd still include more buttons and more display elements. The only reason to leave these out has got to be fear of cannibalizing sales of their better products.

Not sure I’m into the one button and rotary encoder approach especially while you’re trying to work in a dark room. There’s something to be said about having a button for every action. Not unlike many manual cameras; when you can map them from use and unconsciously adjust the, the user interface without looking, then the interface is successful. Then again I still use my electromechanical timers, which are maybe 5 parts which I doubt will wear out anytime soon. (Even if it’s not 100% accurate.) What’s funny too, is they could have a real winner here if they just put two or three dedicated buttons for focus light, mode, and interval duration; but I doubt they will if they’re trying to keep the cost low.

comeradecoyote if the footswitch is always included, that is what you want to use.. no need for dedicated button, footswitch just rules

Hi there, I just ordered the zones from master and thee timer 3. Can the timer 3 work in conjunction with the zone master. Or should I have gone for the stop clock professional. Is it easy just to programme I te figures the zone master gives you? How about split printing with the timer 3?

Chris, could you do a video on calibrating the Zonemaster II that you made a video of previously?

How should be this timer supposed to work in f-stops? You only have fixed starting times and you can't add intervals to previous exposures, so burning in f-stops is impossible..

The device is nice, but I though you was going to explain F-Stop mode use.

yeah. considering the title "a bridge to f-stop"-printing we don't get to know much here about how it works. would be nice going through the numbers and seeing a series layed out to get a feel for it. I think it's about doubling the time? but this didn't really help to either confirm or deny that. I'm hopeful for a follow up with example use. :)
