It’s impossible to explain the high I get from this song… There’s truly nothing better I’ve ever experienced in my life. I don’t know why I love it so much, it’s not like my mind is being blown by some unbelievable talent like impossible guitar solos or ridiculous vocals… It’s such a simple tune but so incredible for whatever reason. I still to this day haven’t figured out what about it makes me feel so amazing, it’s just somehow the definition of perfect to me.

John Frusciante is a gifted live performer: here not only does he play the synthesiser perfectly, but he also plays the beautiful guitar part AND does a great harmony backing vocal. I don’t want to detract from the other musicians in the band - this is superb teamwork after all - but they have just one thing to do each, whereas JF does three things with seemingly effortless style. It’s no wonder everyone loves him 💜

Absolutely ethereal song. 15 years of avidly listening to RHCP, and only the other day did I finally listen to By The Way start to finish… was afraid of the emotional reaction I’d have to songs like this I knew existed on the album between the upbeat hits… glad I waited cause even at nearly 30 they had me bawling over their sonic beauty

I think that by the way is their best album, but Californication is better. On Californication their music was harder than 'by the way', they had time, when they getting serious, after for example BSSM. On 'by the way' they created more mild, and pop-nice songs. Those two albums were their best! I don't like now Stadium Arcadium. Music from SA is like sweet pop-stupid songs, not all, but overall they are.
