I bought this water heater kzbin.infoUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 for use in my bus conversion. I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.

I am a Licensed Electrician. The reason the cord was not installed is because this water heater pulls 2000 watts. All appliance cords even rated 10 gauge with 15 amp 5-15p cord male caps have a rating of only 1875 watts. This is why you would never see a cord on this appliance because the wattage rating of the cord is not big enough to handle 2000 watts continuous. This would be your failure point. Better to use a toggle switch where your current receptacle outlet is and then hardwired it with SO cord or greenfield. This would require you change out that nail-on box. Great video. I'm sure in the long run your cord will be fine. It it is 14-16 Awh then it may be worth changing. Jeff - Sunny Central Florida

Jimbo just wanted to say I appreciate you posting the video even after realizing the water lines were backwards. Most folks would have not allowed themselves to be seen making mistakes. But by doing this honestly you helped people like me that know nothing about installing a water heater, (which I now have to do at my church) and now I can learn from the great things you did.... as well as your mistake so hopefully I won't make the same one. Great video to learn from and your honesty has earned you a new subscriber from me. take care!

Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of a 2.5 gallon Rheem for the kitchen sink. The 6 gallon model pulls too much power and needs a 12 gauge dedicated circuit but I've only got a 14 gauge 15 amp plug under the sink. Did you have to upgrade the electrical wire or cord.

Exactly.... That is what I needed to know. I am remolding a vintage 1972 Travel Trailer and wanted to put one of these in there, but I too, have only a 15 amp.... Do you know if this can be fixed? In other words, what do I need to do to my electrical box... my tiny travel trailer only has a 15 amp breaker. Did you find out anything? Thank you for your help.

Not sure if y’all noticed but he actually had a 14 gauge wire on that box so he’s really using a 15 amp

When an electric water heater fails it is almost always a burnt out heating element available for about $10. Where I live permanently installed heaters drawing that much power are required to be hard wired, not run off cords. That new water heater probably draws 17-18 amps and should be on a separate 20 amp line with 12-2/ground (yellow) wire while the small old one was probably about 12 amps. The National Electric Code requires Ground Fault Interrupter protection for any outlet within 6 feet of water and also in bathrooms, garages, and outdoors. Running new wire for the water heater and DIY installation of GFIs would make great video ideas...

I couldn't see exactly how you made the electrical connections. Was it just black/black white/white? Looked like you also did something else inside and out of view. Also, do you know if the 10 gallon tank has the same size fittings or if there's anything else different between the 6 and 10? Thanks...

Your wire size on that heater should be a # 12 to be safe. Not an extension cord. That's why it came with a 1/2 inch knock out. I would have ran 2/12 MC cable with a ground. Galvanize 90 ? Brass would have been better.

The thing that irked me was that the heaters don't seem to come with a grommet for the electrical. I get that they don't wire 'em up because that gives you the choice to either add a 110v plug or hard wire to romex but a grommet, that's critical either way. I had some on hand from another job but most people probably wouldn't. Nothing like having to run back into town for a hunk of rubber that costs significantly less than the fuel to get it home.

I love videos like this, just normal people doing simple tasks. I think you did a great job minus a few things that are not common knowledge among normal folk. Use brass fittings or copper on domestic lines because galvanized steel will rust pretty quickly, and I’m no electrician but I’ve installed a few of these and I’m sure the newer tank will need a higher rating of cord, or thicker gauge Nd it can be hardwired. I hope all is well and nothing has gone wrong but I would def rectify the electrical simply because I would hate to see your beautiful place burned down over a simple issue.

I believe you set yourself up for future problems with this attic installation. Hard pipe the WH with copper and the necessary unions. Get rid of those BS flex lines, when they fail huge damage to your home.
@dude624785 жыл бұрын
M. T. There’s a big reason dielectric unions are required. Without the mechanical break in the conductive piping the current can corrode pipes all throughout your house

That fridge would operate more efficiently with more stickers added to it. Scientifically, it increases the R value for its insulation. I am considering getting a small somewhat portable hot water heater to run off a garden hose inlet from a extra well on the property to create additional showering experience. Vulcan High5's \V/_

It doesn't look like it has a drain....I installed one a couple of years ago and, now I have to drain it....in my case they expected me to make my own drain near the lower cold water inlet....unfortunately, once I do this I can only drain the water; I can't actually flush it since there is no other inlet, except the existing hot water in the lines, which aren't under pressure.

Should have still used tape. Metal to metal will corrode, cold water supply still needs an expansion tank.

Hope you’ve got your fire insurance paid up! Next time I think I would call one of the plumbers in your family. and maybe an electrician from somebody else’s family. You should have bought the 220 V version much more energy, efficient, and quicker. Never use galvanized fittings they will be rusted solid in about a year not to mention giving you a good taste of iron. Not sure, but I don’t think you installed any dielectric fittings if not, your tank will be rusted out at quite an accelerated rate. If you read the instructions, it’s supposed to be hardwired in with that much amperage. You should probably just put the pets outside and sleep with a fire extinguisher. Other than that, it’s a great job.🙈🤪🤡🧑🚒🚒

120vac single phase is simple, black to black (line) white to white (neutral) and bare ground to bare ground, usually you look for a green colored grounding screw on the equipment case. If they have wires inside if the equipment that you need to connect to then you need to use the appropriate size wire nuts that are UL approved to make your connections, if they have lugs or screws of some sort then they should be labeled, you might see a bronze or brass colored screw to designate the terminal for your black (line) wire. Should have I diagram either in the manual or on a sticker on the inside of the equipment somewhere. 240vac is a different animal.
