Thank you for the help! You explained the process in a very clear, logical way. Now, to try for myself....

An apparently inexperienced "plumber", when replacing my electric water heater (in 2011), left it with the (horizontal) T&P valve pipe OVER the anode, so I can't replace the anode. Please advise how to turn the (empty, of course) tank, so that the T&P valve/pipe remains in position - can I just loosen the valve with a pipe wrench temporarily while rotating the tank to achieve access to the anode?? Many thanks!

Very well done. Thanks.

Something I learned recently when a hot tank leaked over the whole suite; when you put the drain tray in, make sure it is level or at least that the drain hole is not on the 'high side'.

This is a great point. I’ve been looking into these automatic water shutoff systems but have not found some that is cost effective yet.

How much water is let out by the pressure relief valve? It doesn't keep running does it?
@SkyManagement2 жыл бұрын
The relief valve will pop open if the pressure in the tank gets too high (probably caused by either starting with a full tank of cold water and turning it on to get fully hot without running any water or over heating / malfunctioning thermostat) it shouldn’t stay open though. It will close when the pressure is back under the threshold. If it stays open, then it may be a faulty valve.

Why don't you put thread sealer on the threads?

I just bought a 20 gallon AOSmith looks just like that one but has another set of hot and cold connections on the side, what are those for?
@SkyManagement3 жыл бұрын
Some of the smaller units have side ports instead of top ones. The instal process will be pretty much the same. Just make sure you hook the “cold in” to the bottom one and the “hot out” to the top one. If it has both top and side hook ups, then it is possible that it has a heat exchanger coil in it. This type of unit is typically quite a bit more expensive but can be used to heat something else like radiant floor systems.

Manufacturerd homes need the side hookups that's what those are for

I just intalled the same water heater but seems that is not heating up I did the same thing u did..what seems to be the problem?
@SkyManagement2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! I’m sorry. It’s tough to say without looking at it. If the connections are good, It’s possible that you got one that has a bad element or thermostat. I would start by testing it with a volt meter to make sure power is getting where it’s supposed to.
@spagone772 жыл бұрын
Fill it up with water before you put the wires together so you don't blow out your heating element
@SkyManagement2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Always fill first before turning back on the breaker.
