A break in a bone of the ankle (Talocrural Joint) is known as an ankle fracture, and there are multiple different kinds. We look at normal ankle anatomy, as well as the types of fracture (including Danis-Weber Classification), the diagnosis (including X Ray findings) and treatment options.

Firstly, great video! Thank you! You know how most rolled ankles roll the foot inward hurting the lateral ligament.. on an aggressive football cut I rolled my inside leg the other way (over eversion as I just learned), breaking off the tip of my medial malleolus. I tried to be a tough guy and ran on it for another 10 min, HORRIBLE DECISION. Our trainers and doctors were kinda perplexed at the location of the pain/swelling. I was completely embarrassed and frustrated. After about 3 days I told them this didn’t feel like a typical sprain from the pain and upon x ray they saw the fracture. The docs recommended time and typical rehab, which worked out for the most part, but there was sometime phantom pain there for a full two years. Even after 4 years my ankle range/strength/stability is still pretty limited. If you made it this far thanks for listening to my personal anecdote, I’ll leave you with this, train your feet and ankles yall.

@@Ath-et9xm Day 3 post surgery is the worst, it just gets better from there. I didn't need painkillers after a month (just took paracetamol and ibuprofen). I'm fully healed and functional, there's still some swelling and stiffness but I can do pretty much everything as before. My advice is that you try to be as active as possible despite crutches/cast. Best of luck!

@@Ath-et9xm I was allowed partial weight bearing (walking) after 8 weeks (I'm sure it was safe to do earlier but I listened to my surgeon). 1st week I used 2 crtuches to walk, second week 1 crutch and then 0. I started physiotherapy after they removed the splint so around 4 weeks after surgery.

Yes, very informative. I had the ORIF, Tibia Fibula and toe bone surgery with the insertion of the rod, and one nerve damage I am more clear that there are few bones that are not damaged.

minimal splintage: a firm bandage or stirrup brace is applied mainly for comfort until the fracture heals.

me too. I have a plaster cast on. you need to go to a doctor to get a cast for 5 weeks. I also can't walk, it hurts to walk. don't walk on it okay? because you might cause a worse break and then for sure you will need surgery.

It depends on your fracture but anything from 4-6 months to be recover to about 60%. Within 6 weeks of surgery you can start therapy and walking with a boot. I’m about 15 weeks post surgery I’m recovering from a trimalleolar 😢 I’m in the 10% of cases so mine was bad lol
