To avoid the seaweed, you pretty much have to visit from November to February. Outside this period, it is plentiful. From March onwards, visit Isla Holbox. Since it faces North, it escapes most of the seaweed 🎉

collectivo is just fine to take... we went from playa del carmen to bacalar with collectivo.. it was a blast to meet the local people and it was cheap! best way to experiance the mexican way..

Went and spent 14 days in Playa Del Carmen Feb-March 10th. It was beautiful but even then super hot. Spent time living with a Host family as we went with our college. I went to every place you went and the seaweed wasn't near as bad then went swimming at the same beaches. So sad yous didn't get to enjoy the water. Love the Mexican street stands and food just delicious! And the fruit is absolutely amazing fresh!! Also I miss their Hibiscus Juice!!

Hope you guys are doing ok. Harriet and I are well aware of the entrance scam to Chicken Itza. There is no online legitimate entrance platform. We were told by other tourists prior, to watch out and not to stop until you get to the actual entrance. Great Tips for future tourists. The food was good. The beaches are ok if you can get past the seaweed and smell. For us, it's the food ,the drink and the weather. As always, Thank you for the very informative video. Wow. That’s a pretty harsh review. I’ve been in this area many times and continue to go back because there is so much to do in Playa del Carmen. Even during the worst of seaweed season, you are never more than 30 minutes from a pristine beach.

When there sargassum the best thing to do is ,going to the Cenotes or Back witch I recommend 100% , they say Bacalar is the Mexican Bora Bora

I just went to Chichen Itza and we pay when we arrive there, good you guys don't pay with that lady, first because they sell the tickets double price, like you said the Best is in a Tour or pay directly there. When I went to Pyramids in Egypt was a lot scam too.

I wished we watched this video before, we experienced the same experience but we survived :D For those who are wandering: I would recommend swimming in islands! Cozumel has no seeweeds at all!

Oh no!!! That's terrible, I can't believe they pulled you over to buy tickets! We did that same drive a few years back and the drive is incredible. Chichen Itza was definitely the most expensive thing to see in Mexico, but not THAT much. I don't remember the exact price but it wasn't more than $15 USD per person. And yes, the toll prices are CRAZY considering how much things cost in Mexico. Caught. ustotally off guard. Hope you guys are doing well! :)

Hi from Cape Town Rhett and Claire we did the same trip last year with a rented car but luckily we were with family who spend a great deal of time in Playa and they forewarned us about the scam so we just drove straight past them. Another scam on that road is the petrol garage say they don’t take cards and only cash

Sweet deal that you can rent bikes for 3 days 👌 We stayed by el Fogon + Mega and grabbed fresh fruit + groceries every couple of days. Such a good location on quiet street and so many affordable carts/restaurants, only 10 min walk to beach

Friends, I was in Italy, and rented the smales car, (well they are all small) and I stop at a gas station, and told the guy to fill it up, and he said it is 60 euros, i said what? how a mini car hold this much gas? and he said it is possible, I paid it, I call the turisme of italy to complain, they never responded, so be very careful .

Can be easily 60€. Petrol is almost 2€ per L in Italy. Fiat 500 (small car) can hold 35 L. Anyway as George mentioned already this video is not about Italy.

After living there im still trying to figure out why people think playa del carmen is so great? There are so many other nice places! Negril Jamaica for one. Actually, the sargassum causes respiratory problems and rashes so it really is a bigger problem. The cenotes are not much better they are often closed due to high bacteria levels, human waste is flushed directly into the underground rivers in the area. There is no infrastructure in place for treatment of sewage

Playa Del Carmen has a big gay scene, so does Tulum and Cancun! As a gay man, I will never go back to Jamaica and I’m Jamaican myself! Also, like Mexico, Jamaicans will scam the hell out of you, at least in Mexico I can pay $2 and take the colectivo’s everywhere. I know how much things are supposed to cost so I won’t get taken advantage! I will always choose anywhere in Mexico over Jamaica and I’ve been all over Mexico and Jamaica!

2023 Update - The Mexican army has installed a sargassum barrier along the coast and it has made a huge difference. The beaches are clean most days.

5th avenue has been one of the worst places to go in playa del camrmen for us... stay away from this tourism (and us american street) - you pay way more for much less quality just have been there for a few days
