Taurine is found in beef, chicken, and fish (especially tuna and cats need a lot of taurine in their diets). It's also in seaweed and brewer's yeast. It's an amino acid. There was a false story circulating that the taurine in Red bull comes from bull semen but taurine as an additive is now made synthetically in a lab although in the 19th century it was originally isolated from ox bile.

Not sure if someone has pointed this out yet, but taurine in Red Bull is NOT from cow bile. From Red Bull's website: "the fact is that the taurine in Red Bull is produced synthetically by pharmaceutical companies, which guarantees highest quality standards. Taurine is not derived from animals." The confusion is that taurine IS IN cow bile (and a million other animal-related things, including us), but Red Bull does not get their taurine from animals at all.

Ashlyn04 Only very high end "nutritious" energy drinks that contain taurine use a synthetic version. I'm referring to those boutique energy drinks that cost like $5 or more a piece. The cheaper more common priced ones (Red Bull, Monster, Rockstar, etc) use the cheaper form of taurine that is based with cow bile and a few other ingredients.

I'm surprised one of them wasn't the amount of pus allowed in cow milk. It's because cows are kept in such horrible conditions that they get infections in their udders causing pus to get into the milk. Not that it will hurt you, but it's still gross.

Just a clarification...I'm not vegan. I eat meat quite frequently, I just don't drink cows milk. Pus being allowed in it contributes, but the main reason is that I didn't grow up with it and don't like the taste. I usually drink almond or coconut milk. Tastes much better and no chance of there being pus remnants in it :)

Tigerlilly Werty with in any processed meats IE ham turkey salami etc. there is a limit to how much not meat and human meat is allowed. in the creative food industry I worked at. if we saw rats scurry out of a huge box of cookie crumbs destined for cookies n cream ice-cream we had to count how many rats we saw and if it was more than 10. the box was considered over the limit for rat feces allowed.

Nothing gross about it imo, it's made in a lab. Most energy drinks use synthetic taurine, not just Red Bull.
