Wow! Such a time capsule, within this video!! I was born in '79, so I was an '80s kid, and can actually remember almost all of these toys from when I was a kid. Brings back so many great memories, and fun times too!! Those were the days, and I'd give anything to go back to better, and happier, times.

Most parents were outraged by anything skateboarder related during that decade. I spent my teenage years during the eighties and had fun. A younger friend of mine recently said the eighties was the decade of bad taste which made me laugh out loud because I had never thought of it that way but I saw his point and found a lot of truth in it.

the 80s was wild, I turned 10 in 1980 and my sister was 7 yrs older (so 17). So while cassette tapes was gaining ground, my sister still had 8 tracks from the 70s, she was the one to go from bellbottoms to parachute pants. But I was a teen in late 80s while she was adult so I went from playing with madballs to ripped jeans, the wild teased hair & blue eyeshadow and casette tapes of heavey metal bands that are stilla round like Iron Maiden

I think one of the coolest toys from the 80s was Tomy’s “Space Pets”. They were mechanical creatures that ran off of air power. One wound hop, one rolled with scissor links going back and forth. How could they have been ninja turtles ripoffs if they were made by PlayMates, the company that made the original Turtles toys? Especially since, correct me if I am wrong, the Barnyard Commandos were released before the Turtles toys. Edit: The first wave of turtles toys came out less than a year before barnyard commandos. I still don't see how they are ripoffs, aside from the similarity of radioactive mutation, which is irrelevant when it comes to the design, appearance and style of the toys.

I had a Blackstar figure and a Manglor (I somehow remember the plastic egg more than the figure) and I remember Spectra. The rest I've never heard of at all. Certainly easy to see why some of them failed especially those breath creatures & the weird suggestive E.T. finger. Fun video !

I was one of the kids who was fooled by the Manglor marketing. I did a whole presentation on video, Christmas morning, raising him out of that volcano or whatever with narration, and then I unknowingly broke him. 😂

Other odd-ball 80's toy lines that I remember (like most on this list of strange toys): Get Along Gang, Rock Lords (spin-off of Go-Bots), Shirt Tales, Wuzzles, Rose Petal Place, Herself the Elf, and Glowfriends. A lot the early 80's cartoons and toys were based off of greeting card characters (Shirt Tales, Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, and Herself the Elf are the ones I remember well).

I had forgotten about Wuzzles! Thinking of them simultaneously made me think of Popples (which I'm pretty sure came from the same animation studio) and M.A.S.K. (which featured mashup vehicles instead of mashup mascots). It's amazing what lays around in the dusty corners of our brains... ^^;

I really enjoyed this video, there were a lot of toys on the list that looked familiar and some I've never heard of. But I could add one more strange toy line to the list, Sectuars! These were action figures that were part human/part insect and they were really creepy looking. My friend has a bunch of Sectuars and their castle, I would bring my She-ra dolls over to his house to play with (and date) his Sectuars.

Oh, yes. I remember many of these gems. Also, we had a variety of unusual athletic toys like the Pogo Ball, Hoppity Hop, Skip-It, Zap-It, Orbi, Slip-N-Slide, Super Soaker and of course the toy which every kid in my neighborhood had - the NERF TURBO football!!! I also remember digging through boxes of cereal to reveal the toy, gadget, gizmo or widget at the bottom of the box. We had actual toys waiting for us trapped in the bottom of the box of cereal which we worked on while watching hours of the best 1980’s Saturday morning cartoons! ✨🌟✨

I’ll say this much: the 80’s were boom times for a kid! I can’t even think of all the awesome toy series that I had back then; cool that you featured the Converters. I do remember getting a few of those for Christmas, and to be honest they were pretty cool but the plastic was really cheap. Thanks for the nostalgia, friend! ✌️😎

I remember those omnibots, my brother got this $300 butler, and I got the smaller dingbot version. Mine went in circles, his was supposed to bring him soda. Either he didn't read the directions, or it was garbage, cause it was in the attic by next Christmas, and I never saw it deliver a can of coke😂

the 80's was the prime decade for my kids. My son was big into GI Joe and He Man. He was also big on anything cars, Matchbox or Hot Wheels. My mother tried to buy a Cabbage Patch doll for my daughter but could not find one anywhere so we went looking at the toy stores in Germany where we were living at the time. We found one, a boy doll named Hans Gunter. This time I remember many of these toys unlike the 70's. Great time going down memory land, thanks Rhett!

I had a few of the madballs back then. I bet a lot of people don’t know that the company is still around and making new products. You can buy shirts, hoodies and other merch by them as well as the crazy toys. I bought a Leather Face(Texas chainsaw massacre) madball I found in a huge bookstore while on vacation a few years ago. So every now and then I check out their website. Cool video, brought back memories. Thanks

I had a strange doll back in the 1980's that if you left it in sunlight, its skin got darker. Was called 'Suntan Tuesday' if I remember right. Blonde, barbie style doll that never got that dark, but did noticeably change. And changed back to paler if you kept it in the dark overnight iirc. Wasn't a patch on my good old Sindy dolls though lol
@adreabrooks11
@adreabrooks11 5 ай бұрын
Yep; the doll was called Tuesday Taylor - and that specific one was Suntan Tuesday Taylor - sort of like how they had Astronaut Barbie, Doctor Barbie and so on. IIRC, she was made in the late 70s, but there were definitely still a bunch around in the 80s. She (the doll) also inspired a movie, based on a mother whose child died because the photosensitive chemical in a tanning doll was toxic, and who fought to lay charges against the megalithic corporation responsible. I can't remember the name of the movie (might have been one of those made-for-TV releases), or if the plot had any basis in fact, but it certainly made me second guess playing with one as a child.

You rock man! Thanks for the memories, it’s always appreciated, I thoroughly enjoy every one of your videos. Funny…Manglor left quite an impression on me. Even though it was ruined once you ripped it up, I still have fond memories of it because it was so different…and I didn’t try and pull it apart right away. I had that castle thing, it was full of some kind of applesauce-like slime. You would pump the tower up, and it would lift the cage with Manglor in it, up out of the slime…and in my case, while pumping, you would knock it over and spill that crap all over your bedroom floor and ruin the carpet, getting in a lot of trouble, lol! I remember that fateful day…I had Thriller playing on my Raggedy Ann and Andy record player…it was about my third copy of the album because I wore it out playing it so much…and wore out for the fact that I was playing it on a Raggedy Ann and Andy record player lmao!

I remember Convertors well and I have a few. Contrary to popular belief, supposedly none of them were knockoffs. They were all legally licensed from other companies. It was the only way in America you could get some toys from (at the time) obscure anime shows that were only seen in Japan until much later.
