At 26 years old I have left my career as a correctional officer in pursuit of becoming a CRNA. I start nursing school tomorrow, thanks for the videos! Update: first semester down, straight As! Update #2 (6/16/21) : 2nd semester down, 4.0 gpa! was also offered a TAship by my anatomy professor and a cool research position in the health science lab.

Alehwaleh do you still have a chance in life ??? Is that even a question ?!!!! Yess, As long as God gave you that gift of life anything is possible ! I seen people in there 40s doing nursing or and doing CRNA or NP or any medical field with kids. One of my peers was a single mother with three kids she pushed through it and is now a Nurse practitioner... she never gave up.. now that’s a power women! do your prerequisite at a community college then do the RN (ADN) to get started working then BSN online or in Campus. Most hospitals will pay to get your BSN not a lot but some help with tuition. P.s. I’m 26 also 😬

I completely agree. I think that we have been socialized to keep our salaries a secret because companies don’t want to have to pay their employees more. I don’t know about other states but in California it’s completely legal to talk about your salary with your co workers. I love how Rihanna is so transparent and real about nursing. We need more of this from people. I do wish she would share a range for how many hours of overtime she worked but this is still great info!

Great video. I work in Emergency Medicine as an NP, which our pay is similar to CRNAs here in AZ. I had to ask myself the same question regarding the stress, liability, and whacky hours, because ultimately that’s why there is such a drastic pay difference between CRNA, EM and other APP specialties (and I’ve done others). For me it’s a resounding yes, but it’s a very important question to know the answer to, particularly in the case of CRNA because the initial investment is huge. I think it would be helpful to make that video as many primarily focus on the salary as their sole decision making process for moving forward with CRNA, NP, etc.

I still remember the day I got my acceptance letter into undergraduate nursing. I was about 5 hours into a 24-hour car ride with my dad from Key Largo, FL to New York. I knew I was going to get in, but I still cried. 3.9 GPA and I'm working as an RN but I can't wait to start an advanced program. My dad was the one who suggested me to be a nurse, it was never in my original college plan. To be honest, I switched my major only because I had no better ideas. I didn't even think I was smart enough to succeed in nursing school - I was totally wrong and I dropped 8-hour study days 5 days a week and never got bored. I loved every single thing I learned. Even now I miss the long days at my old university's coffee shops and on my days off I read chapters we skipped from my old textbooks to keep my educational mindset in check for the next year and a half until I start. I can't imagine the feeling I will have when I get accepted into an advanced nursing practice program. To be honest, I was a total show-off in school getting all these terrific scores and making complicated, 30-40 page study guides. But it just reflected how passionate I truly was for my education.

I think it’s really awesome you shared your pay! Money is always a taboo subject but I think it’s definitely necessary to talk about. I have no desire to be a crna but think this is really helpful for those who do want to pursue that. You have worked so freaking hard to be where you’re at and you deserve what you make!

I can't wait til I am a CRNA! Started in surg tech and I thought I was going to be a Resp. Ther. But I made up my mind officially over a year ago and now I'm going for it. It's very hard. This is now the 3rd degree program I have put myself through in life. In my 20's I didn't think healthcare was going to be for me, but I completely became obsessed and I now know its absolutely the career for me. I have had surgeries in the past and I didn't always find the Anaesthesiologist to be the most pleasant or comforting person in the room. Too much seriousness and not enough comforting to make me feel better about being put to sleep for surgery. So, I vow to be the most patient conscious and caring, comforting, calming, soothing, relaxing CRNA they ever have. I'm sure your patients all love you, Rhianna! You're cute and nice and smart too. I only hope my next surgery I have is with someone as nice as you putting me to sleep. It can be a very scary experience for some people. Thank you 🧡😴

My $.02 for what it's worth: You were privileged with ability to attend higher education and then to work hard once you were there. I know not everyone has that privilege. I think sharing your experience is valuable, and transparency helps people to know what to expect and can actually shed light on systemic injustices (such as POC being paid less). Your transparency is appreciated and I don't take it as bragging, bit rather lifting the veil on things often kept hidden so it can be examined in the light.

By the way, you make more than alot of Internists, Endocrinologists, Nephrologists, Infectious Disease Specialists, Pediatricians, Family Practitioners etc. A person who becomes a CRNA has less debt burden than someone who has 200-300k in loans and became a Primary Care Physician. That's what it boils down to. 👍

Those fields you can go into private practice and be a millionaire, but every doesn't do that. By the way she making a little over 285k a year. In that field, anesthesia is basically killing people with every surgery, her whole career will be on the line, I mean completely over if something were to go wrong. Even though the anesthesiologist is the one writing the orders. They will sue the hospital or facility and that inturn will fall on that nurse. Most companies make you pay for additional liability insurance in order to cover your license. Not anyone can be a CRNA, what they put you through in that program is brutal. Now its a mandatory 3 year program for doctorate. Schools now get an extra year out of you for about 40,000 dollars. I didn't make it though the program, but I just wasn't focused enough at the time. I'm older, wiser, more mature, will reapply next year. You are absolutely right though about physicians vs CRNA, an anesthesiologist that i use to work for made 400k with student loans that he said could never get repayed. He mentioned, if he had known, he would definitely went to nursing school instead to become a CRNA.
@souviksen7497
@souviksen7497 3 жыл бұрын
@@darienhawthorne1329 Nowadays, forget becoming a millionaire in those fields even in private practice. Insurance reimbursement hasn't gone up since 1997. Costs of running a practice have gone up, especially with maintaining an EHR system. Also, dialysis companies have taken the business away from nephrologists who used to have their own dialysis centers, making nephrology one of the worst fields in medicine now.

What would the stress level of being a CRNA compare to ICU nursing? Less or more?.. Or the same?
@bettysmith7045
@bettysmith7045 4 жыл бұрын
I would say a lot more because you have almost total responsibility for the patient as a CRNA, with some MD oversight. RN in an ICU you are responsible, but the physician is ultimately responsible for the patent's care and treatment, and their final outcome.
