How do you take notes (on white paper, lines paper, with colors, maps) when you are reading a textbook?
@TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 5 жыл бұрын
@@karo9129 I have all my textbooks in the electronic version so I highlight important concepts as I read. I have a notebook as well that I write formulas, specific numbers that I need to memorize and anything else I find helpful. I don't use colored paper or pens but I do have a yellow highlighter and I use that for very important stuff I write down that I want to stand out.

Awesome video! How do you manage set aside time for your husband? I'm in a relationship of almost 3 years and I don't want to have my girlfriend feel as if she's been neglected due to on call, studying, and clinicals etc, but I guess living together makes things easier. Also, are you able to take out loans for cost of living or does your school offer you a stipend of any sort? Thanks!
@TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Phillip! I know what you mean. Living together definitely makes it easier. One simple thing we do almost every night during the week is go to the gym and eat dinner together. The only time we don't get to do this is when I am on call. On the weekends I usually wake up early and try to get all of my studying done by lunchtime so we can hang out the rest of the day. We do rotate weekends as well and I still work per diem in the ICU as an RN so sometimes we only get an hour or two at the end of the day. I think the most important thing is communication. If I know I am going to have a rough week (exams, clinical, etc) I tell him so he isn't surprised when I am extra busy. You are able to take out loans for cost of living in addition to tuition. My school doesn't offer a stipend but they do have student housing which is very cheap. I know some hospitals will offer a stipend if you sign a contract to work for them after graduation.

I'm a soon to be new nurse that will be starting in a larger CVICU that has a history of sending several people to our CRNA school in Nashville (5 people left for CRNA school in January and I am actually filling one of their spots) and I plan to apply to CRNA school in a year or so. The biggest things I hate the most about nursing school is that many nursing style questions come down to semantics so knowing content will help but you may not get it right based on knowing the content and understanding it alone. Since CRNA school is more medical model focused (which tends to be a lot more straight forward and either you know it or you don't), would you say you see less of these style of questions and more content/ critical thinking style and less "let me trick you for the sake of tricking you even though you know all the content and understand it? I work in an ICU PRN as a tech and I hate that we don't learn things from a more medical context because if I had not have worked this job, I would have a hard transition to the nurse role. Probably too much of a dig at nursing education, maybe im a little burnt out of school at this point, but you get the question! Love your videos! You are such an awesome resource!

Are there other students in your cohort who does not utilize flash cards and just do other methods of studying? Thanks!
@TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 5 жыл бұрын
It's awesome that you already have your foot in the door in the SICU! Yes there are. Everyone studies differently, I learn by recall and applying concepts so flashcards and practice questions work great for me. I know some people study by writing everything out on a white board or in a notebook with colors/pictures. There are so many different ways to study and it took me almost all of nursing school to figure out the best way for me 😔

There is a lot of information to remember and sometimes it’s hard to remember it all especially when making the right calls on patients on which anesthetics to use! Thank you! @TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole! Preplanning for cases really helps when you are starting out. We preplan the night before clinical so we can develop our anesthetic plan for the next day. I also have an app called Vargo Anesthesia that has all of our drug info, doses, case tips, etc and it is super helpful! If I have an add on case that I haven't done before I usually look it up in Vargo or on open anesthesia (a website) really fast while I am setting up the room. The thing I find most important is always asking questions when you're unsure of something. Thank you for the feedback :) I am glad it's helpful!

I have a study group, use quizlet, go back through lectures, and try to pay attention in class...but it just doesn’t seem to be sticking the way it used to. Do you feel like you retained most of the information from your courses? Or have you had to review a lot as the semesters progressed?

I feel similar and I know a lot of my classmates do as well. We take the SEE exams every year and studying for that made me realize how fast I was able to remember things. Now, I understand the main idea of the most effective way to learn but here is the big question that I'm having a hard time figuring out. Hi Rhianna! Thank you for your channel. I noticed you workout, eat well, have a baby, a husband, you're a CRNA Doctorate student, and you keep up with your KZbin channel very well. What do you attribute your energy levels to the most? I'm assuming eating well, working out, and sleeping 7+ hours a night? Do you ever feel really sore and exhausted after a workout and find it difficult to not sleep and eat more for faster recovery? For your body type, what do you mostly attribute your energy levels to? I think this is a great idea for another video! :)
@TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I attribute it to exactly what you said! I'm vegan and I try to eat healthy most of the time but I do love some junk food 😂. I can definitely tell a drop in energy when I don't exercise and I try to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night but that's not always possible. And yes, I get very sore sometimes usually when I'm not eating and sleeping well.

@TheSchoellerFamily

I do not typically study in groups but if I am done with my study routine and still have a day before the test I will do a group study session. The reason I don't study in a group until I'm done is because I feel that they get off track sometimes and it can be distracting for me. You’ll need to make sure you apply to a program that accepts PICU experience. There are some programs that won’t accept that as viable icu experience, just as some programs don’t accept ER experience.

You have to complete nursing school (associates or bachelors) and then take the NCLEX test.

I am a huge fan of you are your husband! Currently a freshman in the pre-nursing phase, but my ultimate goal is to become a CRNA. Refining my studying skills is proving to be necessary now that I'm in college. If you do not mind me asking, what CRNA school are you currently attending? Love your videos!

Hey! Is your program front loaded or are you classes integrated into clinical?
@TheSchoellerFamily

Hi! It's integrated 😊

Rhianna Ferial Cool. Do you think you would have liked front loaded better or do you like having clinical at the same time as classes?
@TheSchoellerFamily
@TheSchoellerFamily 5 жыл бұрын
@@pm1079 I really like the way mine is set up. Even though my program is integrated, we finish almost all of our anesthesia classes in the first 4 semesters. The first year is very busy with clinical and class but being able to apply what we are learning right away in the clinical is a huge benefit.

Yes but you have to get your bachelors first. So associates then bachelors then CRNA school.

Hi Cassandra so sorry I missed your comment! It is awesome that you are already in nursing as a CNA, that will give you such an advantage. I bet you could shadow a crna at a hospital near you to see more of what it's like!
