Years ago now I flew from Philly down to Mebane NC to play fiddles with Joe at his house. While we were playing he lamented the fact that no young black musicians care about old-time fiddle music. Nor do they know that their history is so tied to string band music. One year later, Joe met the kids who would later form Carolina Chocolate Drops. I was so happy when that happened because that meeting pumped the fountain of youth into Joe! Loved that man!
