Rhino Rally with the original water section at Busch Gardens Tampa 2001-2014

This is a on-ride POV of the Rhino Rally safari ride with the original water section at Busch Gardens Africa in Tampa, FL. The ride opened here on May 23, 2001 and closed on Sept 1, 2014 with the water section closing May 1, 2010. The water section on this ride is now home to part of the Cheetah Hunt roller coaster from Intamin.

i went on this ride when i was 8 and i remember the water section so vividly... i'm now 19 and i'm GUTTED they've gotten rid of that part :(

Over the years, the water section has been plagued with problems and was very prone to break-downs, and as of May 2010, has been removed completely.

When the water portion was working and you had a good driver this ride was really, really fun. After they removed the flash flood it sucked. If you take the sky ride today you can look down and see the platforms and tracks rotting away and overgrown.

I remember riding this wheni was 6,7,8 most vivid memory of my childhood. I'm 17 now and wish I could relive the whole thing the way it used to be!

Major props to you for getting such a great video of this now extinct ride : ( I got to ride it a few years ago and thought it was really, really cool. I guess though, if they just had so many problems with it, it makes total sense to get rid of it. Oh well, that's progress, and I'm sure Cheetah is going to be awesome.

I remember watching a Documentary about them building the water part of Rhino Rally, I just went to Busch Gardens Tampa for the first time in my life yesterday and got to experience what I'd been looking forward too for years ,in a new way, through Cheetah Hunt. Kinda wish I'd been able to experience this portion through Rhino Rally but Cheetah Hunt was really enjoyable too.

I LOVED this ride! My favorite part was at the 6:25 point. So much fun! My granddaughter was terrified, she thought we got stuck for real.

I rode this all the time when I was a kid. My family had annual passes so we went all the time, and Rhino Rally was always a must-do no matter how many times we rode it. Really sad to see it go. Busch Gardens is 80% roller coasters at this point, and it lacks variety.

I went to BG last week and was sad to see this was gone. It must have been extremely expensive to maintain.

They repurposed the river section for Cheetah Hunt because it was always breaking down.

Nowadays they don't even run the water under Cheetah Hunt. Such a damn shame. Loved this ride as a kid.

Yeah, that is sad as the rushing water does add to the Cheetah Hunt experience.

@LeeClaxton Sorry about the picture quality, it was shot with my old camera which was a Sony Cybershot 7.0 mega pixel. You might want to try watching it in 480p on your computer. I now have a much better Cannon FS100 camcorder which I wanted to use to this ride again, but they permanently shut down the water part about a week before my visit to BGA.

Thanks for the comment. It's a fun ride, I ride it every once in a while if the lines not long. I tends to get 1-2 hours long during the summer months. I had to ride it twice to get the best view for the camera. Turns out that the best view is in the front row on the right side (behind the driver).

@greengoblin200 That happens quite often as it's the only ride of it's kind. Rumor has it that the water portion of the ride will give way to a new launched roller coaster, possibly from Premier Rides. They also might be adding to the land portion to compensate for the loss of the water part.

I went here when I was 11 years old 6 years ago. This was my favorite part of Busch Gardens but when we went on it and got the to water park the ride broke! They had to drain all of the water and we was stuck on it for around 2-3 hours.

@broadwaybabycrw2 Well, the water section has now been removed and is going to be reused for the new roller coaster from Intamin called Cheeta Hunt. Were you able to get a ride on the water section before it was permanently closed.

Our tour guide was more funny. When we was about to go down the water full she said everybody raise your right hands and say goodbye to row 4 it was lol

They've had some problems with the water portion of the ride. Matter of fact, they had to delay the opening of the ride due to a problem they discovered with the water part during the testing phase.

1:18 I remember this part as a kid.. it was SO AMAZING. Very sad to see that it was used for the big hunk of trash known as Cheetah Hunt.

@amandawonderboy Well the water part broke down a few times when I rode it. Ironically, it broke down the last time I rode it before they permanently closed the water portion. Th problem was that I was in th water part when we rounded th corner 2 approach th exit point only 2 find that another truck was already stuck there so everything came 2 a quick halt. It turns out the clamp wouldn't release the truck stalled the truck on the pontoon and the driver kept cranking it which killed the battery.

Most people don't know that Vekoma, Intamin, Arrow Dynamics (before Arrow was bought by S&S), and S&S Power design and built many other amusement park rides other than roller coasters. There are two other examples in this park. The Congo River Rapids was from Intamin and the Stanley Falls Flume was from Arrow Dynamics.

I never got to experience this ride, but I HAVE gotten to ride the Kilimanjaro Safari at Animal Kingdom, and that ride may have ONCE had potent story (that they REALLY shouldn't have gotten rid of), but that ride has NOTHING on this

This ride was a lot of hype that honestly failed to deliver. Cool concept but very little excitement and too much down time. Glad to see it used for Cheetah Hunt and the Safari now
