This is great! I look forward to hearing it on my new audiophile stereo system. I know some people consider it gauche to mention the price, but I paid $50,000 for it. It was worth it and, frankly, I'm worth it. I'm better than most people so why shouldn't I have a better stereo? An audiophile technician came to my house and installed the stereo. With his installation fee, the price got bumped up to $60,000. Once again, it was worth it. It would've taken me a lot longer to figure it out. This way it took less than an hour for it to be fully operational. The first record I played was a John Coltrane record. True audiophiles know that Trane is the artist you use to test a stereo. Let me tell you, the warmth, the analog richness, and the tactile, dynamic sound stage of this stereo are unparalleled. I had an audiophile friend come over and give it a listen. My friend wears a top hat and spats, has a monocle, and carries a cane. I mention that so that you know he is a man of fine taste and distinction. Some people call him Mr. Peanut. Others simply call him a hipster. He has great ears, as great as that elephant-eared Robert Fithen. My friend can tell whether a record is anally or digitally sourced--without fail. He said my stereo is the best one he's ever heard! Now, there was a dissenting opinion. I offer it to prove I'm a fair person and that I'm not just using the comments section of KZbin videos to show off. My nephew came over to do some yard work for me. I played the stereo for him. He looked at me dull-eyed and, I believe, slightly drooling, then said, "Roman, this is two tin cans connected by a string." I told him he couldn't see the forest for the trees. I told him to, "Listen to the Warm," like the title of my dad's old Rod McKuen album. He stared at me blankly. Then I told him how much the stereo cost. That got a big reaction from him. He laughed and laughed like only those unencumbered by thought can laugh. I gave up trying to convince him. He calls vinyl records, "Those big CDs." What does he know? After he left, though, I did wonder if perhaps there was a tinny sound to my stereo. Perhaps it sounded a little hollow, a little compressed. But I put Trane on again and all those doubts were blown away like notes from his tenor sax. I wholeheartedly endorse Emperor's Stereos, and I encourage anyone who has the means to buy one. Thanks for reading this, if you got this far. I get carried away. I'm like a balloon! Actually, I do like The Cars' debut album. I think The Cars were maestros of the pop tune (and I agree that they are a better fit for Rhino than a jazz maestro like John Coltrane). I don't know if I'll buy this Rhino version, but I would like to hear it on a good stereo system. Ha! Stay groovy.

Nice one! That is one of the very few records I consider a perfect record. In that, I love every song. If I feel like listening to a song on it I play the whole thing. It’s like cookies or chips-can’t eat just one. I wanna eat the whole package. I only listen every couple years, though. I never want to get sick of it. Hey Rob, this was excellent. Everything you said was about what I expected, though I'm disappointed to hear they're being cheapskates about shipping after charging $8. I do feel like they took the $40 price point and worked backwards from there. Rhino has reissued lots of records that check all the same boxes as this series (all analog, high quality jacket, etc), but are not limited editions and are half the price or less. And there's so much great stuff they could be doing (e.g. all that great Sire stuff). My cities most popular rock station didn't play The Cars that much. I would have remembered it, since their debut release coincided with me getting my first real job, and I bought my first real stereo a few months after I started working. I remember when I got my atereo, they were playing a lot of Boston from their first album, released going on 2 years earlier. They were playing a lot of Bob Seger. The Cars debut sold 6 million copies. About the same as Seger's Night Moves and about a third as many as the Boston Debut. In fact it wasn't until 1983 and Friday Night Videos that I really started being exposed to The Cars music a lot. Maybe someone at the local radio station felt that The Cars singer sounded too ridiculous. They did play a lot of Rush though.

It’s easy to understand why they would do Jazz titles. One look at the success of the Blue Note Tone Poet series and the Analogue Productions Prestige run and it’s a no brainer. I've also noticed quite a few re-releases of older albums have a slightly lower quality reproduction of the artwork over the originals, from washed out to overly dark, a couple pixelated, overly high contrast so details are lost e.t.c. At the end of the day though I know it doesn't affect the music, plus I guess if you first owned it like this and had no reference then how would you know anyway? On top of that the art is easier to appreciate than on say a CD for instance. Thanks for the review

I love this..lets make dishwarped off center crap lps with pops and clicks..and when we apply actual quality control we'll call it the audiophile version and change twice the amount. So the customer pays for the defective priduct this time.

I've not know Rhino to make bad records as far as the one I've seen.

@@RobertFithen I bought the firs four reissues of Zep and the Doors. So mamy dishwarps and off center pressings. Nothing like watching the stylus on Zep IV facing the rough seas of 'Friends'. Up and down and side to side.

That "doo... doo..." sound in the intro of 'Good Times Roll' was done with an electronic drum (pre-Simmons stuff), not a keyboard, though 😉

Wow! I had no idea.

Yes, they were called "Syndrums" and were also used on the original "Entertainment Tonight" TV theme song, Linda Ronstadt's version of "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" and many other classics from that time period.

@@tsandell - Yes, David Robinson did have a couple of Syndrums (on his left side, next to the hi-hat) but also a whole bunch of other electronic pads mounted above those that looked like round cookie tins, and *that's* what he'd used for that particular sound, as can be seen in several early live clips of that song 🙂 I have no idea what brand they were, and the Internet isn't of much help with this either! 😅
@tsandell Жыл бұрын
@@mightyV444 Thanks for the correction and added detail! I reckon there were other additional products that made Syndrum-type sounds too.

@@tsandell - All good 😊 Yeah, I'd seen those 'cookie tin' E-drums quite a few times before (Soft Cell had them, too), so I'm surprised I can't find any info about them!? 🤔

can you do a video of your top ten Elvis Presley albums?

I think I will at some point. I was thinking about making a video talking about the difference between the albums to get and the cheap ones.

Great review Robert. Wish I could just grab a copy from a local. I’m still on the fence given the questionable shipping mailers others have shared in the community. My local PO has a field day with these already.

I will have to say, just as you pointed out, the packaging was horrible. When I saw that my Coltrane album had arrived, I already feared bad corners or bending. No idea why they can't upgrade their boxes a bit. Still, the album was fantastic.

I said the same thing on the cover, the model has rosy cheeks on my OG but she is washed out on the Rhino.

If ...big IF , if I were to throw money away on "audiophile" records , Rhino is the only way to go. If Rhino gets around to re-releasing their Little Feat , "Waiting for Columbus" CD on vinyl , that would be worth it, only if it's a three record set.

Why are "Audiophiles" so picky about any perceived imperfections when it comes to their system yet they ignore the sonic imperfections of vinyl and claim it to be the best source for music?
