Albums that sound like they're comps but they're not: THE BEST OF THE SIR DOUGLAS QUINTET (actually their debut). Even more fiendishly: Pete Best's BEST OF THE BEATLES.

In my opinion, Creed, Matchbox 20, the Verve Pipe and even No Doubt belong on CD, not vinyl records. I loved Matchbox 20 and No Doubt, but those band’s’ albums were made for CDs.

I was a huge Gang of Four fan back in the day and was fortunate to see them many times before their untimely demise in mid 83. There was a disease going around at the time that caused great bands to suddenly want to sound like the Pet Shop Boys. Both the Gang and Paul Weller caught this tragic malady and ended two fantastic bands. Years later New Order would succumb as well. Anyway id just like to say that as good as their first 3 lps are , live they were a completely different thing. Andy was such an underrated guitarist. Live he was a monster. I saw a show here in NYC in dec 1981 and it literally changed my life. I had already seen plenty of great live shows by then but nothing could have prepared for their live show that Dec night. The minute Andy started playing my jaw hit the floor and stayed there for the entire show. The wall of sound and feedback. The energy wow just wow. Although i had already seen the Clash The Jam and so many others i was just completely blown away by the Gang. If you like the lps i encourage you to try and find some live stuff from them. Amazing stuff. I do believe there is some footage right here on KZbin of them from those days. But I guarantee anything you can hear of that band live before mid 1983 would totally be worth your time. If you see their another day another dollar ep you should def grab that. The live version of Cheeseburger is worth the price of admission alone. Im Gonna check out these other bands you mentioned as well. Fun video as always.

Lake Shore Drive! Love that track! Discovered it from listening to old airchecks. Never heard it back in the day because it was never played in my area. Haven't heard the rest of their stuff but that is just as you say, kind of melancholy and upbeat at the same time. And the piano lick! Love how they play it slightly differently every time.

Awesome that you at least mentioned 24/7 Spies. Only have Harder than You and I love it. Bought it back in the day on CD. Early 90s in Houston funk rock was very big with many local bands like Sprawl, Bouffant Jellyfish, and Fleshmop.

Bravo, Robert! Your review of Two Virgins had me cracking up. Ditto on the Elvis disc. "Its a talkin' record!" LOL I havent listened to Trout Mask Replica, but I'm aware of its reputation. I might like it, but I might not. Guess I'll find out. Don't know if you've listened to Safe as Milk yet, but I found it it to be a faurky accessible album.

After I ask "Do you have any records or CD's?" at yard sales I then have to follow that up with "Rock and Roll from the fifties on. And you know what, you're right Robert, I don't consider Neil Diamond or Barbra Streisand R&R. After the seller has told me "Oh yeah I've got lots of Rock and Roll." Meanwhile while I'm wasting my time going through this pile of junk but hoping for a holy grail some guy at another yard sale is picking up a butcher cover

aw man, I liked the Living Stereo logo on there. Esquivel had some RCA records with that. And Chet Atkins. A friend of mine married Ted Aliotta's daughter. Ted had a band about 20 years ago called the Groove Merchants (Maybe...?) Anyways, they made a CD and mispelled the name as Grove Merchants. LOL! Thanks for the vid.

Fast-forward to the crate diggers of the next century, when all the Al Hirt, Mitch Miller, Ray Conniff, etc. albums have FINALLY gone away, they'll have all the Creed, Matchbox 20, & Verve Pipe, etc. vinyl to annoy them.

Fu Manchu probably had more vans then skateboards on the covers. At least it seems like it. I havent owned any legit copies in years. But i still blast the one tape i still got from the 90s. Return To Earth, i believe. Seems that for every 1 Matchbox 20 album. There is 2 Grateful Dead albums being pressed out of a 6 LP live album box set.

Agree 100% on the grooves. You do not need an ultra-high-end stylus to avoid inner-groove distortion. You can get an Audio-Technica Micro Line for less than $300 that eliminates it when set up properly. (No, $300 is not chump change for the average person. It certainly is not chump change for me. But it is chump change in the audio world.) Inner grooves will never sound as good as the outer grooves just due to the speed difference, BUT they can absolutely sound good. No reason to avoid them. I also agree on the "ironic" Living Stereo tag. Yes, the joke was kinda funny the first time it was made 30 years ago, but it is played out. Gang Of Four had a cool sound. Funky Dr Feelgood, haha. (The pub rock band.)

The worst thing about those shitty 1990s bands having vinyl pressings now is that they clog up the plants for work. As they're always working at max capacity imagine having to wait to put out decent vinyl for crap like Matchbox 20.

Also another shitty thing is that major record labels are not investing in thier on pressing plants. Jack white came out and urged them to open up there on plants to take the burden off........... but i see the music industry trying its hardest to kill physical media. A better business model to have you rent the album over and over again to listen to a couple of songs on it.

@@budsmoker4201120 Absolutely agree, People like Jack White are heroes. They understand. The companies aren't bothered because they can't be bothered with it and lack the knowledge to work out if it makes money because as ever, they don't understand their market. Sad really.

Zabriskie Point OST got better later reissues. Sony/ Columbia did a decent bare bones reissue on CD and cassette in the early 90's, Rhino did an expanded CD reissue with more Pink Floyd tracks and some solo Jerry Garcia material in the early 00's.
