My heart is heavy and broken at the loss of Olivia Newton-John, who passed away last week. Our world has lost one of the greatest human beings of our time. When I look back to the time when she gave us so much love and devotion with her incredible voice , I always consider her one of the best ; And now we face a world without her gentle soul to be able to inspire and help us feel about life. I wasn't aware that DF had done this song as a solo on his first album, until recently! I definitely like it better as a duet. Part of ONJ's appeal is that she's a massive talent, but she doesn't seem to take herself as seriously as she could! She looks like she's a real person, who hasn't let all fake stuff take her down a fake road! RIP Olivia. (whoever came up with the bass line is a genious! I just homed in on it, and it's all over the place.... but, it makes the chord structure and voicing make perfect sense.)

Oh, that bass line is classic David Foster synth bass. Not that I think he played it or necessarily came up with it, it was likely his trusted session keyboardist Greg Phillinganes. But I'm sure he coaxed whoever played it into that territory. You hear similar bass lines on Chicago's greatest ballad hits, (which of course Foster produced as well as co-wrote).
