I worked in Leith docks from 1989-1999 at British pipe coaters and knew the cafe well as we would grab a roll on the way into work. Leith docks are unfortunately unrecognisable now, nothing to show for the hundreds of years of history which is a shame for anyone who worked there it really was like no other place ive worked. After working at the docks i started driving buses in Edinburgh and on one of the routes id pick up one of the proclaimers, always polite and grateful to be taken to tollcross. Ive just retired and moved to fife but every time i hear this song im taken back to sunny(not always) Leith the best time of my life i loved it.

This song! 36 years ago. Never off the radio. During the kind of beautiful Autum Scotland does so well. Staying in my mum's house in Ayrshire, with my brand new, baby daughter. Mum was dying, had been terminal for 2 years. And I was heartbroken to be losing her. And I'd nurse my wee baby, look into her wee face, "while I'm worth, my room on this earth, I will be with you. "While the Chief, puts sunshine on Leith, I'll thank him, for your birth" So thankful for my baby, time with both her and my mum, and a reason to keep going, after my mum died. What a song. Still miss you mum. Still give thanks for my girl.
