No introduction required. An absolute all time classic by Sam & Dave, with brilliant guitar riffs by Steve Cropper, excellent back-up by Booker T & The MGs and let's not forget the late great Isaac Hayes. Brilliant, just utterly brilliant. No version comes close to this great, great original. The original and the definitive and the best version.

I always found it interesting with the phrase "I was educated at Woodstock". Yet this debuted in 1967, two years before Woodstock was a thing!
@jrsygrl72 Жыл бұрын
I've often wondered about that, myself. Here's the story: From Songcraft: Spotlight on Songwriters | EP145 DAVID PORTER ("Soul Man") "Soul Man” was written two years before the famous Woodstock festival in upstate New York. As revealed in an American Songwriter interview with co-writer David Porter, Woodstock is referencing a high school of the same name in Millington, Tennessee. Porter goes on to explain further: “No one put very much attention on the Woodstock phrase until here comes the music festival and here comes Belushi and Aykroyd….It had everything to do with the context that the song was created in-humble beginnings, dirt road, getting an education…coming from the soil, so to speak, to build yourself up, to be all the man you need to be.”
