An old friend told me once that when he was a kid, Alvin, then a little past his glory years, was hired to perform at a kids party in Kent. Alvin remained in black leather character throughout the party, black gloves included, and he was reportedly a real sweetheart. That story enhanced my total respect for the man.

@@GroundhogRoy His real name was Bernard William Jewry but he also had the artist name of Shane Fenton.I don"t know if "Alvin" sang a cover version of "Coo ca choo" that he picked up somewhere or what,but you seem to know so who was it?
@GroundhogRoy
@GroundhogRoy 2 жыл бұрын
@@ethericboy Yeah, Bernard/Shane didn't sing 'My Coo Ca Choo'. It was sung by its writer Peter Shelley, under the stage name Alvin Stardust. But when the song was successful, it took Peter by surprise. He didn't want to be a big rock star, so Bernard/Shane was brought in to take over the Alvin Stardust persona (including miming to Peter's voice on TOTP!). Peter went on to write a lot of new Alvin's later hits too. Weirdly, the two Alvins had similar singing voices. I wouldn't know it was Peter singing on 'My Coo Ca Choo' if no one told me!

Great song,, in this case there are two singers on the Track, Alvin and writer/producer Peter Shelley. Very cleverly they blended the two in the tracking and mix.. so the growly Elvis effect is both singers together. I remember an interview that Alvin did where he said that it gave the track "more bite". It is still Alvin, just augmented by Peter Shelley.
